Have a number of leaders assigned to meet children coming in the door and to hand out the badges for ”I BROUGHT A FRIEND” and ”MY FRIEND BROUGHT ME”. Captain Noah and Zarky comes on stage to welcome the children Noah:

Hiya there, Zarky!

Zarky:

Hey there, Captain Noah, how are you this fine day?

Noah:

Truly is fine isn’t it? I went out first thing this morning took my goldfish for a walk.

Zarky:

You went for a walk with your goldfish?

Noah:

Beautiful morning, it was! Why, Big Bobby, he was just so grateful to get out and about.

Zarky:

And Big Bobby would be . . . .

Noah:

My goldfish. Big Bobby.

Zarky:

Kinda strange name for a little goldfish don’t you think?

Noah:

Not at all! Big Bobby answers to his name.

Zarky:

Hey, wait a minute here! Since when does a goldfish answer when you call his name? And what could he say anyway?

Noah:

He just makes little fish noises when I call him.

Zarky:

Fish noises? Like what kind of fish noises?

Noah:

Like this. (Noah mimes fish breathing under water)

Zarky:

What was that supposed to be? (Zarky mimes fish breathing under water)

Noah:

See, you can make little fish noises too!

Zarky:

There was no noise, I was just doing what fish do under water.

Noah:

To another fish there is noise. And Big Bobby can hear them, so that makes it all right.

Zarky:

Makes it all right huh? Not in a million years! Look, you just come with me, I will show you another of God’s creatures that just loves going for walks.

Noah and Zarky go off stage TIN CAN FAITH By Steve Story (A person is alone on stage, carrying a large sack over his shoulder. There are several empty cans [pop, soup, etc...] strewn around the stage. Each time he thinks of a good work he has done, he picks up another can and puts it into his sack. Throughout the course of the scene, the bag gradually becomes heavier.) Walt, thinking out loud: Oh yeah, and there was the time I returned that wallet I found. (Finds another can and picks it up and puts it in his bag)...and the time I let my little sister win in Candyland...(picks up another can)...and...and...OOOhhh, I almost forgot about that time I came to a complete stop (picks up a can) Um, I think that=s worth two (picks up another can). Now, what else, what else... Joshua, enters from offstage: Excuse me friend, whatcha doin=? Walt, deep in thought, doesn’t hear: Joshua:

I=m sorry, what?

Whatcha doin= on the ground there?

Walt, preoccupied: Looking for... Oh, there was that time in college I could have cheated twice but only cheated once (picking up a can) that’s gotta count for somethin=. Joshua:

I=m sorry, I didn’t hear what you said. You=re looking for what?

Walt:

What? Cans. I=m looking for cans.

Joshua:

May I ask why?

Walt:

Why?

Joshua:

Yes, why?

Walt:

Listen, I don=t mean to be rude, but I=m kinda busy right now. Could we talk about this later?

Joshua:

As you wish. (Stands and watches)

Walt:

I never killed anybody (picks up a can). In fact, think of all the people I wanted to kill but didn’t (picks up several cans as he lists people) the guy at the grocery store, my brother-in-law,...Madonna. Now we=re getting somewhere.

Joshua:

And where is that?

Walt:

I beg your pardon?

Joshua:

I=m just wondering what it is your doing?

Walt:

I told you before, I=m collecting cans.

Joshua:

Yes, I know. But why?

Walt:

I=m not gonna get rid of you am I?

Joshua:

Not easily, I=m afraid.

Walt:

(Puts down the bag) Very well. It so happens I owe someone some money, and I=m collecting these cans so I can recycle them and redeem them to pay my debt. Understand?

Joshua:

Not entirely. How much do you owe?

Walt:

(Loudly) The ninth commandment!

Joshua:

I beg your pardon?

Walt:

At least I think it=s the ninth commandment. neighbor=s wife.@

Joshua:

Yes, so?

Walt:

Have you seen my neighbors wife? I=m sure I’ve kept that one. (Picks up a can)

Joshua:

You were saying.

Walt:

I=m sorry, what was the question?

Joshua:

You have a debt, Yes? (Walt nods) How much do you owe?

Walt:

I=m not sure.

Joshua:

Well, how long until you have collected enough junk to pay it back?

Walt:

That=s kind of a grey area as well.

Joshua:

When do you have to pay?

Walt:

Not sure.

Joshua:

Can=t you make an appointment?

Walt:

You don=t make an appointment with him, he makes an appointment with you.

Joshua:

Who=s he? Who do you owe?

Walt:

The mean old man who lives in the mansion at the top of the hill. He owns the recycling plant, so I figured this was a way to get on his good side. At least he’ll see how hard I=m working to pay him back.

Joshua:

What makes you say he=s mean?

Walt:

Because I have to pay him back, that=s why. If I wasn’t so worried about squaring up with him, I could be out having some real fun, you know?

Joshua:

I know that man. He=s not mean.

Walt:

How do you know?

Joshua:

He=s my father.

Walt:

You don=t say.

Joshua:

In fact, he sent me here to help you.

Walt:

You don=t say.

Joshua:

Do you mind if I take a look and see what you’ve got?

Walt:

Be my guest.

Joshua:

(Looking through the bag, he begins tossing cans out one at a time) No...no....I=m afraid this won=t do...

Walt:

What are you doing?

Joshua:

Helping you.

Walt:

Helping me?

The SS Zark – God’s Wonderful Creatures VBS Program© Friday ©Copyright DramaShare® 2001

Joshua:

Yes, helping you. These cans are not pure aluminum. My father only accepts items that are 100% pure. I=m afraid he wouldn’t accept any of this.

Walt:

You don=t say.

Joshua:

Please stop saying that. In fact, I think he=d be rather insulted, you trying to pay him back with this, well..., junk. At this rate, you wouldn’t be able to pay him back until....(pretending to calculate) well, never.

Walt:

But there was that time I....

Joshua:

Stop it please. It=s simply not good enough.

Walt:

Well, then how am I supposed to pay him back?

Joshua:

Where did you get the idea that you have to work to pay him back? You can=t pay him back. But, as it so happens, my father informed me of your debt and your inability to pay. So at his request, I have left a bag of cans sufficient to pay your debt outside the door of your house. All you have to do is claim it.

Walt:

Sounds too easy.

Joshua:

Perhaps. But some find it so easy they can=t do it.

Walt:

What am I suppose to do with all this (motioning to his bag)?

Joshua:

Do yourself a favor, drop it.

Walt:

But I’ve been collecting for so long.

Joshua:

You’ve been wasting your time.

Walt:

How do I know you=re telling the truth.

Joshua:

Compare my bag to yours, if you like.

Walt:

But how do I know your bag is good enough?

Joshua:

Because he told me it is, and he=s accepted it from millions of others.

Walt:

I=d feel better if I could take my stuff along as a sort of back-up.

Joshua:

Doesn’t work that way.

Walt:

You could be wrong.

Joshua:

You can=t be right.

Walt:

Thanks...(contemplates for a moment) but no thanks. I’ll take care of this myself. (Turns and walks away) What about the time I visited that lady in the hospital. Boy was she sick. (Picks up a can). Woowho!

END actors leave stage area. VBS Leader: Hi boys and girls. What do you suppose that person was trying to do? try to allow the children to come up with an explanation, if it is not forthcoming one of the leaders should try to get the discussion started. VBS Leader: No matter how hard we try we can never earn God’s love and our salvation. But the fact is we don’t need to, it has already been given to us by Jesus Christ. Noah and Zarky come back on stage Zarky:

That’s right! All we have to do is accept, God is faithful.

Noah:

Speaking of faithful, that is one of the characteristics of God’s creature today. Want to guess who it is Zarky?

Zarky:

Let’s see now, can’t be the lion or monkey, they have already been here. Same with the butterfly. Let’s see, the beaver was here as well. So that leaves, well, about a hundred zillion possibilities, that’s what, there are just so many of God’s wonderful creatures!

Noah:

Give up?

Zarky:

Yes, I give up, who is it who is visiting with us today Captain Noah?

Noah:

Help me open the “Treasure Chest”, I’ll show you who our visitor is. Can you help me lift the lid of the Treasure Chest? Pretend you are holding the rope, just like I am, then pull really hard!

Noah pulls on rope while all others on stage mime pulling on ropes, strain hard. Lid slowly raises, sound effects of hinges squeaking would be useful. As lid opens a cloth with a picture of the creature’s home, (in this case a doghouse), is attached to the underside of the lid, so when the lid is fully open the doghouse is clearly visible. goes around the back, inside the Treasure Chest, it looks as though he is entering the creature’s home to find him. Have clothing and materials appear over the top of the chest wall, indicating Noah is searching for the creature. Finally Noah shouts out: Noah:

Here he is, I found him!

Noah and Yip the dog come out from behind the Treasure Chest. Yip wears a complete or partial costume, you might just have a headpiece and a tail. If a headpiece is not possible you may just draw whiskers on the person. Yip comes to front of stage

Noah:

Why, it’s Yip! Yip is here to see us today. Come on in Yip!

Yip runs on stage, yipping Zarky:

Pleased to meet you Yip. Glad to have you here. Boys and girls did you welcome Yip?

lead children in welcome Yip:

Wow-wow! I feel so very welcome! Thank you boys and girls! Hi Mr. Zarky! I have been looking forward to meeting you!

Noah:

Because this is the last day of Vacation Bible School, I wrote a special song for Yip! Want to hear it?

leaders and children affirm Noah:

Actually its an old, old song, I just kinda re-worked some of the words. But I need everyone’s help to sing the special part of the song. So when I lift my hand like this (gesture) I want all of you to say, “Yip, yip!” OK, can you do that? OK, here goes! (sings, holds up hand at end of each line) Did you see the puppy in the window?

Children:

Yip yip!

Noah:

And so I took Yip from the window

Zarky:

I gotta tell ya, Captain Noah, that was a first class song, and seems like Zarky liked it too! Since we are singing, let’s sing some songs right now!

Zarky lead in a song before everyone goes to their classes. Zarky, sings:

God sent a sign. It was a rainbow.

He knew in time That we would understand. High in the sky His arc of promise His love for us Just keeps on flooding down. Go build an ark And make it sturdy It’s gonna be so Strong and so secure And make it big Just like God’s love is His love for us Just keeps on flooding down God’s love for all Be sure they know Him Be sure they know His awesome strength and care So when they need Someone to hold them They see his love Just keeps on flooding down VBS Leader: Thanks Zarky. And now, I would like everyone to stand right where you are as we do some warm-ups. Do you remember from yesterday what warm-ups are? leave time for some children to answer

VBS Leader: Warm-ups aren’t necessarily just for getting ready to play games or do hard work. Let’s do a special kind of warm-up right now. Reach up as high as you can! Feel yourself stretching in your fingers, your shoulders, your back, and your legs. Reach as far as you can. Next, relax your fingertips, and then your fingers, letting them fall towards the floor. Now, continue the relaxation down your whole body...wrists, elbows, head, neck, upper back, middle of the back, lower back. Now bend your knees and let yourself hang there -- totally relaxed, kind of like a rag doll. Bounce a little bit and let your body flop. We are warming up our bodies so they are ready to work and play. Did you know that prayer is a lot like stretching? Prayer gets us ready to work and play in life. So let’s use some prayer stretching right now! Pray with me please. Heavenly Father, we thank you for the chance to be here today. Stretch The SS Zark – God’s Wonderful Creatures VBS Program© Friday ©Copyright DramaShare® 2001

Page 198

us, help us grow today and all through this week. And also give all of us a fun time! Thank you God, Amen! Let's stretch again and reach for the stars! Feel how tense your muscles are? O.K. Just relax. Sometimes, life is hard and we are afraid, or we worry or cry. In times of life when we feel this way we should pray to God. God helps us relax and trust Him to be with us. Now just as we did before, relax your fingertips, then your fingers, your wrists, elbows, head, neck, back, and finally bend your knees. Bounce around again and now stand up. There are also times in life when things are easy going. We are relaxed. At these times, we should pray to God as well. Let’s pray a relaxing prayer now. Father God, we ask that you take the next days and give us pleasure and relaxation as we learn more about you. Amen. In order to get warmed up to work and play with our bodies, we must stretch (leader leads in stretching exercise) and be loose (leader leads in Rag-Doll relaxation exercise). To be ready and warmed-up for life, we must be in prayer to God when life is tense (lead in stretching exercise) and when life is loose (lead in Rag-Doll relaxation exercise). With God by our side, we are ready for whatever life has for us! Now then, don’t you feel more relaxed? VBS Leader: And now it’s time to go to our classes. The leader for our Primary group, that’s all of you up to Grade 2, is (name of Primary Leader), and s/he will take you right now to your fun room. All of you up to Grade 2 go along with her/him now. Primary group go to their room or area VBS Leader:

The Intermediate group, Grades 3 and 4, will be going to their “Sing For Joy” class right now. (Name of leader) will lead you there now.

Intermediate children follow leader VBS Leader:

The Junior class will be staying right here for their Reporter Time. Everyone enjoy your day!

Session 5-2 Primary Acting Up Leader:

Today we are going to talk about being devoted. Who can tell me what “being devoted means” means? Any ideas?

wait for several answers before continuing Leader:

Being devoted is when you give all your attention or love to someone or something. When I think of being devoted I often think of a puppy-dog, and how that dog is often totally devoted to his master. In many cases a dog will actually put itself in danger, or even sacrifice its life, for his master. Being devoted is something we learn from Jesus, and we also learn it in the Old Testament from a man named Abraham. See Abraham was totally devoted to God.

Abraham Teaching point: We must be "devoted" to do the will and the work of God. Abraham is in period costume. The actor can be any age but should be made up to appear as very old. He should have a long grey beard and walk with a staff. He should walk bent over to give the impression of old age. This drama is meant to generate interest yet with a theme of dignified, sober sincerity. Pronunciation, meaning & background 'Abraham {ab-raw-hawm'} contracted from an unused root (probably meaning to be populous) Abraham = "father of a multitude" or "chief of multitude" 1) friend of God and founder of Hebrew nation via God's elective covenant Leader says: Today we are going to be learning about a person in the Bible who served God. We have a very special person coming to talk to you in Children's Church this morning. Abraham enters sanctuary from side door: Good morning! My name is Abraham. Many of you were brought here by your families. That's nice. You see I too had children and was a proud and devoted parent too. Do you know what devoted means? . . . . . . Devoted is how your parents feel about you. They The SS Zark – God’s Wonderful Creatures VBS Program© Friday ©Copyright DramaShare® 2001

Page 201

consider each of you to be so special that they would do just about anything to see that you were well looked after. In Vacation Bible School today we are going to talk about families and how everyone in the family should be devoted to each other. But you know we need to be devoted to God as well. Let’s get started. Before we start though, let's pray. "Dear God, I thank you for these children and for their interest in learning about You. Bless these children and their families. We pray in Your name. Amen." Abraham reads or speaks: I'm very happy to be with you children this morning. Children have always been very special to me. Many, many years ago I and my wife Sarah dreamed of having a son. Many times we both prayed to God for a son but now we were getting old and it hurt to think that we would never get the opportunity to be parents. One day Sarah and I were relaxing in the shade from the desert sun. In the distance I saw some men coming toward our camp. I asked my wife that she prepare some food, after all it wasn't often that guests dropped in on us and I wanted to treat them properly. The travelers sat down with me and started telling me some news which I found hard to believe! They said . . . .that they could promise us that Sarah and I would have a son! Even more that we would have many, many children and grandchildren, that our family would be so large as to be "like the number of stars in the sky"! I could hardly believe my ears. Sarah, who was listening as she prepared the meal, laughed out loud. "Of course this couldn't happen", she said, "don't you realize how old we are?" It turned out that these were no ordinary travelers, these were angels. God had sent the angels to us to give us the good news. We wanted to believe the news, and we did, even though it seemed so impossible! When the angels left we were so excited! We were going to have our very own son! And we waited and waited and waited. But it just never happened. Time went by and Sarah and I got older and older. We had everything that anyone could want, land, cattle, sheep, many servants. But what we wanted most, a son, we did not have. Sarah and I wanted to believe that what God had told us was true, that a son would still be born to us. But we were now so old. How could a child be born to us when we were old enough to be great-grandparents? Sad to say, we started to doubt God. But we were wrong! The promise of the Lord did come true! Just as the angels had promised, we had our very own baby boy! We called him Isaac. He was so beautiful, so special! You see, I felt the very same way about my son that your parents and families feel about you. Families are a special gift from God! I have really enjoyed being with you children this morning. I have to go now but before I do let's talk to God. Bow your head and close your eyes. "God, thank you for families. For children and parents, brothers and sisters. Thank you for the love and the warmth of our homes. Amen" Abraham leaves .

Session 5-2 Junior The Reporter (Bible Study) The Bible Times Investigative Reporter Faithfulness For this activity the class will break into small groups and study a person from the Bible, based on some attribute of the creature of the day. The group will settle on an attribute and look for someone in the Bible who displays this attribute, or some happening in the Bible which best fleshes this out. The children will then make notes about this person or situation. One person will be appointed the Bible character and another will be the reporter who interviews that person. The following day another person or happening will be chosen based on some attribute of the creature of that day, and different children will be the character and reporter. In the investigation process all children will assist the reporter in what questions should be asked to best bring the attribute out. Urge the groups to use questions which require more than a “yes” or “no” answer. Also ask questions which will require the character to describe their emotions and feelings: “How did you, as a Roman soldier, feel as you watched Jesus being crucified?” Each group will present their interview on Friday evening, (or, depending on time available on Friday evening, only a few of these assignments may be used). On Monday we gave a lot of information and several good options for the children to use. For subsequent days it will be up to the children, guided by the leaders, to search and identify their own Bible character or happening to use in their situation. In this session the class will investigate Bible passages which remind them of some of the attributes of the dog. Leader:

(first open in prayer) What is today’s special creature?

allow someone to answer Leader: That’s right! A dog. Can you tell me anything about the dog, some of his characteristics? We are going to create our “The Reporter” assignment based on one of the following characteristics. Example would be “Faithfulness of Christ”. Session 5-3 Intermediate The Reporter (Bible Study) The Bible Times Investigative Reporter Faithfulness For this activity the class will break into small groups and study a person from the Bible, based on some attribute of the creature of the day. In this session the Intermediate class will investigate Bible passages which remind them of some of the attributes of the dog.

Session 5-4 All Groups SnacknStory The Little Acorn A little acorn fell from the tree. It did not fall very far away from the tree but to the little acorn it was very, very far. It seemed so far that it looked impossible to get to the tree but then everything was big to the acorn because he was so small. Even the smallest of obstacles were huge to the acorn, like a blade of grass or even a small flower. They took forever to get around. Each one so big it was all he could see until he got past it. Just one inch took such a long, long time to travel. But the creator tree would whisper encouragement that would float gently in the breezes that blew his way. At first the little acorn didn't understand what the creator tree was saying or that he was even talking but after a while he began to pick out bits and pieces. He was able to hear little things like, "I love you", Don't be afraid", and "It will be ok". Sometimes in the rain it would get so messy and hard to struggle through, that the acorn would get discouraged and think, "I am never going to make it to the creator tree." But Papa tree would say, "Don't give up because of looks or feel Surely the faith you have is real No matter what happens come rain or shine Always remember that you are still Mine!" So the acorn would be encouraged and continue its struggle. Then one day a beautiful deer came to eat the tender grasses beneath the tree. Much to the horror of the little acorn the deer stepped on him, pushing him deep into the ground. Then, "OH NO!" cried the little acorn. Plop, plop the deer relieved itself on top of the acorn. "Yuck, what a mess. Well this is the last straw. I'll never get out of this mess", thought the acorn. "This is hopeless." At first it was hard to hear the Papa tree's encouragement with all the stuff in his ears. "Help! Get me out of here!" cried the little acorn. Help, help, help!" But finally he began to hear little whispers, "Do not be afraid", It will be ok." "Oh good", thought the little acorn, " then you're going to get me out of hear. Well I'm ready. But Papa tree just spoke soothingly, "Everything's going to be ok, you'll be fine soon, you'll see."

Page 212

"Soon?" asked the acorn, "what do you mean soon? Get me out of here. How can I be fine in this mess? Let me tell you I'm not fine, just get me out of here. But Papa tree just said, "Do not fear, it's all going to be ok." But the acorn didn't think it was ok at all. It pushed and gouged its way in the dirt and mess again and again, day after day. "I've got to get out of this mess. I can't hear Papa tree well at all with all this stuff on top of me." he said. So he pushed and pushed and struggled against the dirt. He pushed so hard he began to crack. "Oh no", thought the little acorn, "it's too late, I'm falling apart." But then one day, finally he pushed his way to the surface and pulled himself up. He was a little wobbly and smelly but he was out. "Well, it's about time," thought the little acorn. Papa tree began to laugh as the acorn tried to begin its journey back to Papa tree again, only to find that he was stuck and couldn't budge from that spot. "Oh great," said the little acorn, "after all I've been through I'm stuck and you're laughing. Well I don't think it's funny. All I wanted was to be close to you." And with that the little acorn began to cry. "Little one," Papa tree said, "look at yourself. You're not an acorn any more. You are a little tree with roots in the soil just like me. You look like a little me." "It was never about your struggles and hardships," the Papa tree said, "it was about what I placed in you of myself coming forth. You see you were never meant to be an acorn. That was just the seed of life. You were meant to be like me. And now you will grow big and tall. Storms and winds may come but now they will only make you stronger. As an acorn you could not fellowship with me like you so desired to. But all the hardships helped you grow so you could be like me. Now we can have perfect fellowship together." When it seems that the hardships of life are bigger and more impossible than ever, step back and listen. When you feel stepped on and plopped on, step back and listen. Because the journey is not over just because of these things, they are just there to help the transformation into God's image take place. Because what you are now is just a seed. So it's ok if it gets a little cracked, it's what inside that counts. That is what the Lord invested of himself in you.

Well, it’s kind of a cartoon, but it’s a picture of a dog. Kinda cute. And now, what is this?

A shepherd. Throughout the centuries, even back in Bible times the shepherd has worked with his dogs, looking after the sheep. A special relationship between shepherd, his dog and the sheep. Explain how this same kind of relationship happens in our lives when we become Christians, relying on God’s shepherding in our lives. Memory Verse: The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.. Session 5-5 Junior Acting Up Leader:

They The SS Zark – God’s Wonderful Creatures VBS Program© Friday ©Copyright DramaShare® 2001

consider each of you to be so special that they would do just about anything to see that you were well looked after.

Session 5-6 Juniors SingnGames In this session the class will learn more about the lion and sing songs, which they will be encouraged to act out in a very basic manner. Explain to the children that singing is an excellent way of learning new ideas, and that all week we will be reviewing the songs we have learned and everyday we will be adding a new song as well. Leader:

Tape:

The first song we are going to sing is a very pretty song, all about God’s promise, His rainbow. Let’s just listen quietly as we hear this song. God sent a sign. It was a rainbow. He knew in time That we would understand. High in the sky His arc of promise His love for us Just keeps on flooding down. Go build an ark And make it sturdy It’s gonna be so Strong and so secure And make it big Just like God’s love is His love for us Just keeps on flooding down God’s love for all Be sure they know Him Be sure they know His awesome strength and care So when they need Someone to hold them They see his love Just keeps on flooding down

Leader:

Wasn’t that a nice song. Now let’s have some fun with, “Hey, Noah!” Let’s march around as we sing this fun song.

Leader speaks the line just before it is to be sung so children will better understand the words. Hey, Noah! Hey, Noah! I’ve got some work for you! Hey, Noah! Hey, Noah! There’s so much to do! Get pitch, and get lumber! Hammer, nails and glue. Now hurry, please hurry There’s so much to do! Find ducks and find camels! Two of every kind. Find skunks and find horses! No one left behind. It’s rainin’! It’s rainin’! Whole world’s getting’ wet! It’s rainin’! It’s pourin’! And it’s gonna get worse yet. Leader:

Wasn’t that fun, let’s sing it again! Hey, Noah!

Now then, another fun song, this one about our friend, Yip the Dog. Leaders mime a dog doing the things which dogs do: baying at the moon, rubbing up against people, scratching an imaginary flea. Session 5-7 All Groups Closing Assembly An Island Adventure

Day 5 - Gentleness / Self Control Bud:

Hi, I am almost home. I was going along in my boat everything was great when I saw this island. I mean I had to stop. How could I pass up meeting an azz cousin again. They are kinda funny. ( walks along then trips, falls, and starts yelling) Ouch! ahhh!! that hurts! (cries, loudly) Stupid branch. It hurt me. I hate that branch. Stupid, stupid, stupid.(continues to cry)

Mazz:

Gazz, I did hear something, look.

Gazz:

Oh Mazz, its a man, he's hurt.

Mazz:

Sir, here, let me help you.

Bud:

Oh, no, don't touch, it hurts. If you try and help it will only hurt worse.

Gazz:

What happened?

Bud:

I was walking along and that branch came up and attacked me. It's a dumb, branch. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Mazz:

Here trust me, I will be gentle. (starts to help)

Bud:

Hey, that does feel better. Thanks, you really are gentle.

Gazz:

You should really try and have some self-control over what you say.

Bud, to audience:

OK, here we go again. And who are you?

Mazz:

I'm Mazz, and I thank God for teaching me about gentleness.

Gazz:

And I'm Gazz; God has been teaching me self-control.

Bud:

Oh no, I'm not going through this again. I don't want to know any more. I'll just say good-bye. (starts to get up, falls back down) Ouch! Well, I guess I could stay for awhile. Why don't you tell me about gentleness and self-control?

The SS Zark – God’s Wonderful Creatures VBS Program© Friday ©Copyright DramaShare® 2001

Page 224

Mazz:

When you love God and know that he loves you ,you want to do what will please him. God is our father and even through at times he has us go through scary times, he also is gentle with us. And he wants us to be gentle with others.

Bud:

How?

Mazz:

We can practice gentleness by our actions. Such as, by not doing something that we know will hurt others. Don't hurt others feelings, don't hit others, that sorta thing.

Bud:

What about this self-control?

Gazz:

Self-control is watching what we say and do. Not saying things that we know God doesn't like to hear. Even when we are hurt we can practice self-control. God is always watching and we want to say things and do things that make him happy.

Bud:

You mean when I was shouting I wasn’t having any self-control.

Mazz:

Yes, that is what we mean. How is your foot?

Gazz:

Shall we help you try and stand on it?

Bud:

Yes, thanks. (Mazz and Gazz go on each side of Bud and help him up) Hey, that feels better.

Mazz:

Would you like to come for supper?

Gazz:

Come on, we have plenty.

Bud:

Thanks I would like that. Maybe you could tell me more about this gentleness and self-control.

Narrator:

Aaaaaaaah! Another victory won in the life of our young friend Bud! My, my, my, my , my! Just about brings a tear to my old eye is what it does!

Bud:

Very few things I won’t miss about my experience. Narrator, old buddy, you are pushing it is what you are doing!

Narrator:
