If one looks at the famous ‘Gilgamesh Epic’ of approximately 2600BC, one can read of the connection of certain gods to reality around them. The Epic refers to ‘Shamash’ the sun god, sending 13 winds to help the heroes of the text. There were other deities at that time, an important one being ‘Nanna’ or ‘Nannar’, who was the moon god. This god was also called ‘Sin’ whose city was Ur. So these local gods were linked into creation or nature in some form. What we have here is a development from basic polytheism to monism (all is one), which essentially is a very rudimentary and early form of pantheism. The following are the words of the high priestess Enheduanna who worshipped the Goddess, Inanna. Enheduanna is the first known author in the history of writing and lived 4,000 years ago in the city of Ur, (now southern Iraq). The passage below is a new translation of Enheduanna’s poetry from ‘Inanna, Lady of the Largest Heart’ by DeShong. The closeness of the goddess to creation around her can be seen in the translation, and is further proof of a rudimentary, monistic, pantheism. The Sefiroth is based on the Hebrew alphabet: on numbers, letters and sounds. Numerology is often the term given to occultic usage of numbers. The Greek philosopher Pythagoras was interested in this, Secret Teaching of all Ages, Manly P. Hall, p. 191ff. The Sefiroth also has ten divine names within it, including Jehovah or Yahweh. To put it very simply these expressions all have masculine and feminine parts; they are fully androgynous. There are two exceptions to this rule. One of these expressions is totally masculine and the other expression completely feminine. The feminine part is involved with creation. This links to my main text where I wrote that the Shekinah of God is a feminine part of the Divine and is also the religious community itself. The way the Cabbalistic system is represented, is by geometric diagrams. The geometry is an attempt to express the relationships of En-Sof with the Sefiroth and the creation.
