Karaka Special Treatment Unit is a dedicated “community of change” based at Waikeria Prison, renown for its success in supporting the rehabilitation of high-risk and violent offenders. Our psychologically based therapeutic programmes have been recognised as having a significant and positive impact in our quest to reduce reoffending. As a Psychologist located in a Special Treatment Unit within Corrections Services, you will be facilitating an intensive group programme within a therapeutic community designed to reduce the offending rates of high risk offenders. You will also provide clinical and risk assessments, advice, supervision, and training to other Corrections staff and may be involved in research work in the context of the scientist/practitioner model. Successful candidates will have a minimum of a Masters Degree in Psychology - with a specialty in Forensic or Clinical Psychology - be reliable, have excellent communication and problem solving skills and ability to work across cultures.
