Satellite Services: This is an area that most of us will not have an ability to participate in unless you are working directly with the government or military. However we may be able to take advantage of satellite services when they become more mainstream.

Carrier Services: Sprint PCS and T-Mobile are two of the most popular carrier services at this time. They both can provide data and voice services over their network using CDMA (peak speed of 144kbps, avg. @ 50 - 70 kbps and GSM/GPRS (peak speed of 114kbps, avg. 30 - 50 kbps).

WWAN (Wireless Wide Area Network): This is also sometimes known as Fixed Wireless. The products in this area allow a reseller to create WISP (Wireless ISP), to create a large wireless campus coverage, or city wide coverage. Typical ranges can vary from 5 to 70 miles depending on the type of equipment used. 802.11 a/b/g: The current offering of the 802.11 family now offers many different speeds, but the overall distance from the access point remains the same. Depending on your needs will determine what version of 802.11 you choose. Typical ranges of wireless is @ 100 feet, however a site survey must be done to properly identify any interference.

PAN

PAN (Personal Area Networks): PANs are primarily made up of Bluetooth enabled devices. They allow for devices to connect to one another and eliminate the cables. The distance form each device can not exceed 30 feet.
