Fam ily My family is small but precious: George and I will celebrate 42 y ears of marriage in February . Our daughter Tracy and her husband Brian are ex pecting our first grandchild in May . My mother celebrated her 1 00th birthday at Thanksgiv ing.

Career I'v e enjoy ed a long and fulfilling career, working as an ex ecutiv e in marketing and public relations, all in Gainesv ille, all for wonderful organizations: Santa Fe College, Shands HealthCare, A v Med Health Plan/Santa Fe HealthCare, North Florida Regional Medical Center, Chamber of Commerce, UF Bureau of Economic and Business Research. It just happened that at the time I joined these organizations, each was in the midst of significant growth or name change or ex pansion of role - so it was great fun to be part of those positiv e changes. In these roles I was also able to participate in a wide v ariety of community activ ities, indeed, my title at Shands was V ice President for Community Affairs. A s a Gainesv ille nativ e, this lev el of community inv olv ement, play ing a small role in the growth and dev elopment of our community , has been deeply satisfy ing and enriching. Now that I am "retired," it has been fun to ex plore new dimensions of activ ities, from being a docent at the Harn Museum to helping a community group restore Glen Springs as a nature park.

A ctually , as much time as I'v e spent inside, at the office and in meetings all through my career, now I really enjoy just "being outside." Hobbies I'm part of a women's hiking group and we trav el once a y ear to some interesting part of the world to hike. Last y ear we were in the Asturias region of Spain, west of the Py renees. This y ear we will trav el to Slov enia and Croatia. Past hikes hav e taken us to Bhutan, Panama, Turkey , Italy , Switzerland, France and ev en Iceland. This has been great fun - and it's forced me to try and stay in shape y ear round. I also enjoy play ing golf, kay aking, walking, bird watching, bicy cling, puttering around the y ard ... and we hav e a small place in the mountains where we hike and canoe. Giv ing Circle Ex perience From the beginning, the Women's Giv ing Circle seemed like such a good idea: pool our money and make a bigger difference with our gifts! I was part of the group who got this started and it has been gratify ing to watch it grow. Our goal, from the outset, has been to help women and girls become more economically self sufficient. We hav e done that. But, there is more to be done. A s the membership continues to grow, as the amount of money we raise increases and as our focus becomes more targeted, I am confident that the Women's Giv ing Circle will continue to be a v ital part of this community 's wellbeing. I am v ery proud of what the women of the Women's Giv ing Circle hav e accomplished and I am grateful to hav e been a member.

Holiday Social Success This December the Giv ing Circle held a Holiday Social at Keith Watson's Showroom in Tioga Town Center. Our members and their guests were able to shop the showroom while enjoy ing champagne cranberry punch, chocolates, and cheeses. Keith Watson was kind enough to donate $1 25 of sales to the Giv ing Circle after the ev ent!

Survey Results Thank y ou v ery much for participating in our Membership Interest Surv ey last month! We receiv ed some v ery important and positiv e feedback about the direction of the Giv ing Circle. A s per the results we will not be hosting a Bus Tour this y ear, but we will start looking towards hosting a community forum in the future. A lso, for those of y ou who said they would like to participate on a committee please send an email to m.kirby @cfncf.org and we will find a place for y ou to serv e in the Giv ing Circle.
