and train to be a hospice palliative care home visiting volunteer. The Community Hospice Program at Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities professionally trains compassionate, kind and committed volunteers to provide in home (nonmedical) support to individuals and families caring for someone at home with a lifethreatening illness. Volunteers visit the same client, once a week for up to 3 hours to provide a listening ear and caring, confidential place for clients to share their stories, worries, joys and fears. Volunteers can help with practical tasks like writing or sorting through photos or a friendly person to share hobbies like playing cards, enjoying a visit in the garden or watching a movie. We are currently in need of folks who speak more than one language (especially Tamil, Hindi, Cantonese, Mandarin, Punjabi, Italian and Russian) and have daytime availability to visit their clients. Comprehensive training begins February 2016. “You always get more than you give” is a common phrase shared by volunteers in our program. Come and find out just how meaningful this special and unique volunteer role is. In Hospice we focus on quality of living. YOU can make a difference. Contact Betty Ann Rutledge [email protected] or 416-642-9445 ext. 4418 for more information. The application process includes a face to face interview, personal and police reference checks and completion of all relevant training. Training takes place at midScarborough HUB, Brimley and Eglinton.
