GEAR UP Program Advisor Salary: $18.77 - $38.51 per hour Contract Appointment ends one year from date of hire, with the possibility of extension or conversion to career based on funding UC Davis currently has 7 positions available for our newly awarded GEAR UP Rural Valley Partnership Grant throughout Tehama, Glenn, and Colusa Counties! Job Summary: Under general supervision, develop academic outreach programs designed to increase the number of college eligible and college bound students from educationally and economically disadvantaged backgrounds and provide academic enrichment opportunities for targeted high school and middle school students. Assess needs of student population served, determine the best method of providing services and develop regular schedule of program activities in target schools. Advise junior and senior high school students and parents regarding higher education opportunities and programs available; develop and present workshops about post-secondary admissions requirements, student services and financial aid; assist students with the application process; represent UC Davis at workshops, meetings and conferences; develop written material for program publications; coordinate summer programs; serve on various committees to set policy, strategy and direction for programs to improve opportunities for students. Coordinate campus visits, parent conferences and other academic enrichment activities. The Gear Up Program Advisor position is located in various schools in Colusa, Glenn, and Tehama counties (to be determined). Minimum Qualifications:  Teaching, advising, or youth development experience serving large numbers of ethnically and economically diverse students. 

Experience with program development and management; experience to design, implement, and evaluate initiatives serving diverse communities.



Knowledge of post-secondary institutions' admissions, registration, and financial aid policies and procedures and experience communicating them to students and parents both individually and in large groups.



Communication skills to prepare written reports, proposals, correspondence, assessments, email and other materials for a variety of audiences.



Experience with California public K-12 school system.
