Creating an Account Following Users Mobile Tweeting Twitter Terms About Twitter

Visit twitter.com to create an account.

Twitter is a social network that allows users to post short status updates (tweets) of 140 characters or less.

Note: Certain functions in twitter are unavailable until your account has been verified. After you have created your account, check your email to verify your account. 2. Find groups, friends, or educators to Follow.  Click the Who to Follow button to see some of Twitter’s suggestions, or use the Search box to enter a name or email address.  Click the +Follow button to add the user’s tweets to your stream.

Educators can use twitter to:  Post questions for students  Post  links to websites they would like students to investigate  Learn about what other educators are up to

Settings To personalize your account and adjust your privacy settings: 1. Click the drop-down arrow next to your username. 2. Click Settings

Once in Settings, visit the Account tab to adjust privacy settings. Visit the Profile tab to add an image and brief bio, or Mobile tab to enable your cell phone to receive text messages of chosen tweets.

Twitter Terms DM Direct Message - to send a DM, type DM or D Stream in front of an @username. Tweet (v.) # Hash tag - Use in front of keywords in order to make the tweet easy to search for or list. @Mention A twitter update that contains your @username in the tweet.

Tweet, Tweeting, Tweeted. The act of posting a message, often called a "Tweet", on Twitter.

Tweet (n.) A message posted via Twitter containing 140 characters or less.

@Reply When replying to a tweet, the username of the person you are replying to will begin the tweet, @username. Twitter Tip You can click the twitter icon at any time to return to your twitter stream.

The continual posting of new tweets

Twitter on the Go Visit m.twitter.com from most mobile devices to gain access to Twitter. Other services such as those provided by hootsuite.com, twitterrific.com and twhirl.org are helpful in managing tweets, shortening URL’s, tracking lists and sharing pictures.
