Teen Advisors (TAs) About the Program Toronto Public Library is looking for two teen volunteers to help the Library to improve its services for youth! If you are between 15 and 17 years of age you can apply to become a Teen Advisor and consult with youth across the City about the Library and its services. This is a great opportunity to build your leadership, communication, and civic engagement skills, and become involved in the Library’s strategic planning process. What the Volunteer Does The Teen Advisors will engage with teens across the City and consult on topics of interest to youth. After consulting with Toronto’s teens, the Teen Advisors will use the results to provide the Toronto Public Library Board with timely advice on issues of importance to youth, especially youth programs, services, barriers to youth, and potential opportunities for the Library. Volunteer Benefits It is a great way to get experience and a reference for job and school applications and receive volunteer hours. Responsibilities • With support from the Board Liaison, develop a consultation strategy, including attending YAG meetings and other City/Library youth events as appropriate • Consult with Toronto’s youth on topics that impact youth • Use the results of the consultation to provide timely advice to the Toronto Public Library Board • Provide an annual report to the Board Liaison on youth issues and initiatives, based on consultations Time and Place • Teen Advisors meet with the Toronto Public Library Board liaison and staff at the Toronto Reference Library approximately once a month

• Teen Advisors attend Youth Advisory Group meetings at branches throughout the City as appropriate, and may attend various youth-centered City events to consult broadly with Toronto’s youth population. How to Volunteer • • • • •

Be between 15-17 years of age Be able to communicate effectively with peers and adults Be able to work as part of a team Commit to a 6 month term (January to June 2014), 3-4 hours per month You are not eligible to apply if you are employed by the Library.
