“To Tell the Truth” Partner Research Project 1. Pick a partner. Pick responsibly – this should be someone you can work well with but will not distract you. 2. You and your partner pick a person to write a “To Tell the Truth” play about. a. The person can be anyone from George Washington to Michael Jordan, but the person needs to be someone who has accomplished something important. Don’t just pick a person because he/she is your favorite celebrity. b. You cannot do a play on anyone we have read about in class (i.e. Rosa Parks). 3. You and your partner should spend library time, extra class time, and out of class time researching your person. A

Minimum of

two different types of sources is required.

You must include at least one print source. Sources can include encyclopedia, nonfiction book, magazine, and Internet. Use only reputable sources. 4. Once you have researched, write your play. It must follow the format of the plays we read in class. For instance, it must have a character list, contestant statement, etc. The only difference is that you may have one host if you want. Read all that you can about your person. The more you know the better. You will write a summary (5+ paragraphs) that your Hosts will read during the skit. Decide what specific things you want to point out about your person. These things will become the questions that are asked by the panelists. You will need to come up with some lies about your person. One or two will be sufficient. You will need to decide which character (1,2 or 3) will always tell the truth. Hosts – give information Panelists – provide information and ask questions Your contestant(s) – answer the questions and provide true information and lies. 5. You must include a bibliography page. We will spend a day in class working on this. Keep track of where you get your information on index cards.

6. Your rough draft is due by Friday,

March 28.

7. We will have a few days in the computer lab to type the final copies of the plays. You will print enough copies for each person in the cast plus one for me to grade. 8. You will be performing your plays in class. On that day, you will pick members of the class to participate in your play. 9. All information included in your plays must be appropriate for school. 10. You will be given some, but not a great deal of, time to work in class. Use your time wisely. You probably will need to work on this outside of class in order to complete it on time. 11. This will be a significant part of your grade. Please take it seriously. Part of your grade will be determined by how well you work together in your group. 12. The final copy of the play is due no later than

Monday, April 21.

You may turn it in early for bonus points.
