Elements of Spiritual Direction The Process (Schema for small & large group sharing)
The facilitator will assist the participant in becoming more aware of: The presence of God Who God is for the participant God’s movement in the events of the participant’s life God’s movement in his or her prayer as they share their story The importance of learning to “listen” to others Quiet time for reflection: Participants will have time for quiet reflection on some specific questions, and will write down any thoughts or bible passages that come to mind Sharing in Small Groups After the quiet time for personal reflection, the participants will be divided into small groups to share their experience. (Remind participants that what is shared in the session stays in the group): Each small group will select a scribe who will take notes on the discussion and report back to the whole group on the questions. Everyone must have a chance to share. One person speaks at a time There is no cross-talk; this is not a time for problem solving. Sharing in Large Group The “scribe” will report a summary of what was shared in the small group.
(Hand out the questions) In the quiet time suggest that the participants journal their responses.
