Beta particles: A beta particle has the charge of an electron and the mass is same as that of electron. The velocity of the beta particle lies between 33% to 99% of the velocity of light. Because of the small mass, the penetrating power is high as compared to the alpha particle.Gamma particle: A gamma particle has no mass and no charge. The velocity of the gamma rays is same as the velocity of light. The penetrating power of the gamma rays is too high.
