“But Wait, There’s More”

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21 (NASB).

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth.”

When our family goes to see a movie, and we really enjoy it, we will always be the last ones out of the theater. Why? Not all movies, but a good number of them will have a short clip after the movie credits have rolled. They are usually included for humor or to set up a possible sequel. Renee is the one who started this McKinney family tradition. I would get up to leave and she would say, “But wait, there’s more.” More often than not, she would be right.

Founder’s Day celebrations have come and gone. A BIG THANKS to all who helped make this week-long celebration a success. However, as we move forward in spiritual growth and service, I am hearing a voice saying, “But wait, there’s more.” I am confident that I am not the only one hearing this. Do you hear it also? It’s the Spirit of God saying there’s more…. more light and love to be shown and shared in our community and beyond, more hope in Jesus Christ to be offered to a hurting world. Join others each Sunday as we seek to grow together through worship and Bible study. A special opportunity is taking place on Sunday night, October 1, that could help you find your place of service here at BSBC. See below for more information on our upcoming Ministry Party. I pray through our worship, study, fellowship and service we will all hear the Spirit’s voice saying, “But wait, there’s more.”

Note – October 11-14, I will be traveling with a small group from the Baptist Children’s Home of NC to Xela, Guatemala (Melvin and Joann Lutz are also participating). This is a short visioning trip in which we will learn more about the work in and through the Good Shepherd Orphanage, and ongoing construction needs. Please be in prayer for this trip and the possibility of future mission opportunities for members of BSBC.

From our Associate Pastor for Music & Adults… Candy Wilson What a busy summer and September we had! And now it’s time to begin preparations for the Advent/Christmas Season. Say what?!? Already?? The older I become I have begun to realize how quickly time passes and how important it is for us to savor the good times and to take time to be grateful for all the gifts we have been given. One of those wonderful gifts is the gift of music. If you are inclined musically, I ask you to consider becoming a part of the Music Ministry of Boiling Springs Baptist Church. We always need singers, band and orchestral instrumentalists, and handbell ringers. Now is a good time to become a part of this ministry—a time when we are all beginning to get back into our regular routine. Music is usually a part of every service of worship at Boiling Springs Baptist. Your participation in the Music Ministry of the church will not only be a blessing to others; but, you will also be blessed by contributing your gift regularly in worship. If you have any questions, please contact me. You will find more information about our Christmas music plans in the article below. I also want to share with you a wonderful opportunity we have on Sunday, October 8 at 6:00 pm as we will be hosting the Crest High School Orchestra in the sanctuary. Our very own Hannah Thurman and Dalton Stevens are members of this fine group of musicians and I know you don’t want to miss it! Please plan to attend. In God’s service with you, Candy CHRISTMAS MUSIC AT BOILING SPRINGS BAPTIST This year we will join forces with the Music Ministry of First Baptist, Shelby to present “Peace Has Come” by Mary McDonald. We will be accompanied by chamber orchestra. Each choir will work on the music in regular choir rehearsals and there will be 3 combined rehearsals. Both presentations will be on Sunday, December 17: 9:00 am at First Baptist and 10:55 am at Boiling Springs. This project promises to be a meaningful and rewarding experience. See below for combined rehearsal dates, times, and locations. If you have any questions or are interested in participating, please contact Candy Wilson at your earliest convenience. Combined Rehearsal Schedule for “Peace Has Come” Saturday, September 30, 10:00 am at First Baptist, Shelby Wednesday, November 01, 7:15 pm at First Baptist, Shelby Wednesday, December 13, 6:00 pm Rehearsal for orchestra 7:00 pm Dress Rehearsal at Boiling Springs Baptist

Preschool and Children... “God has a plan for me. I don’t know what it is right now.

I don’t know what I will see or do. But one day I will hear Him call. And when I do, I’ll answer Yes - Jesus will do something amazing.” Jesus Wants All of Me As children of God, we are not always sure of God’s call. Some of us have listened and not known how to answer or what the call may do to our lives. Children need to see us, as adults setting an example of listening to God and answering His call. As I have talked with children about listening to God I have used myself as an example of listening and just not being sure how to answer. When I did answer, the door He opened for me was amazing as I now have a second family of children that I love dearly. Children see Alan and Mary Newcomb listening to God’s call and answering His call to lead the youth to understand their faith and to listen to God. We, as a church, need to allow them to see us as strong Christians, leading and listening to what God has in store for us as we walk in faith. Step up and be the person they see as God’s faithful follower. Fall is upon us and we look forward to activities that allow us to share time together in a new season. Apples and pumpkins, fall leaves and cooler days…. God’s sign of a new beginning! There are several activities planned in the month ahead. These are not only for the children but families and the community. On October 28, the Pre-K pals and families will gather for a Great Pumpkin Party at the picnic shelter from 2:00-4:00. Following the Great Pumpkin Party will be our Trail of Treats on Sunday October 29, from 5:00-7:00 pm. This is an event that has been a great success in the community. Everyone is welcome to come, and to participate with planning games and events inside the church. Fall is in the air and God has His Hands on us! Miss Ellen

A Message from Our Youth Minister... First, let Mary and I say a most sincere thank you for our time of ordination in the month of September. It was truly a special and encouraging evening for us and we are eternally grateful for the love and support that we receive from Boiling Springs Baptist Church. The fall season is a very big time for our youth ministry and we are very excited! Students and teachers are in the swing of school and we continue to pray for a smooth fall semester for all. Below are some events and dates that are important in the months of October and November: Sunday October 1: A $50 deposit is due for our youth Fall Retreat to Camp Caraway. All youth attending this trip must pay the deposit by this day! Sunday October 8: The youth will be going to the Cleveland County fair following morning worship. The price of admission is $6. Any church member who would like to go to the fair with us is certainly welcome to come! Sunday October 15: The youth will be sponsoring a church-wide Feed the Flock on this Sunday following the worship service. We will be having spaghetti, salad, and bread for the meal. We hope you will come and enjoy fellowship with the church community and support our youth ministry with donations for the meal! Sunday October 22: We will have a mandatory youth parents’ meeting for those who have youth going on the Fall Retreat. We will meet that afternoon at 4 PM to discuss details, including cost. Saturday October 28: The youth will be sponsoring the annual Golf Tournament at River Bend Golf Course on this day. This is a huge fundraiser for the youth. If anybody in the church, or any youth, want to play in the golf tournament, see the blip in the Current. It costs $60 a person, or $240 for a team of 4. Also, if any individual or business in the church or the community wants to be a hole sponsor, you can pay $100 to have a sign with your name on it at the golf course. All proceeds go to the youth ministry. Friday November 10-Sunday November 12: The youth will be going on a Fall Retreat to Camp Caraway in Asheboro, NC. This is a beautiful camp and there are exciting activities and worship planned. We will have a guest speaker for the weekend and guest worship leaders as well. This weekend will be only our youth group together. We will stay in a cabin all together and eat our meals on camp Saturday. During the day there will be an opportunity for our group to participate in group building exercises as well as other fun events. This will be a truly meaningful and fun weekend. We hope all youth can come! A $50 deposit is due Sunday October 1. The Feed the Flock will help with the cost of this trip. The final cost will be discussed at the youth parent meeting on Sunday October 22, but the total cost, after the $50 deposit, will not exceed $50. If the youth attends and helps with Feed the Flock, then it could likely be less. Final payment for this youth trip is due Sunday, November 5. May the love and peace of Christ reign in each of our lives and in the life of this church,
