June 2019 Volume 4 Issue 6

Keith’s Korner When was the last time you heard a sermon on heaven (hell), angels (demons) or dreams? We’ve all heard the saying, “I’ll believe it when I see it.” The invisible spiritual realm is difficult subject to grasp for many. The Unseen World summer sermon series will begin Sunday, June 23 and continue throughout the month of July. This summer I invite you to join me and Boiling Springs Baptist as we journey together in scripture exploring the unseen world. Most of our time will focus on heaven, angels and at least one sermon on the subject of dreams. Beginning in July the subject of Heaven will be explored in a deeper way at our 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. time of Bible study.

Throughout scripture we are challenged to think about our own mortality. The world’s death rate is holding steady at 100%. David writes, “Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is. You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure” (Psalm 39:4-5, NIV). It is worth our time and eternity to consider how quickly a breath takes place. Randy Alcorn writes in his book Heaven; the wise will consider what awaits us on the other side of this life that so quickly ends. As I continue my study around these important topics, I ask you to join me in reading scriptures that have to do with the subjects mentioned above. What are your biggest questions about Heaven? What are angels? What do they really do? Do you have a personal story where you believe you’ve witnessed the activity of an angel? Also, what about dreams? God spoke to others in dreams throughout scripture, does He still use them to speak to others today? Join others as we begin exploring the unseen world on Sunday morning, June 23, and thanks for your prayers for my time of preparation for these sermons.

A Unique June Bible Study Opportunity ALL AGES are invited to the Mayberry Bible Study during the month of June, on Wednesdays, at 11:00am and 6:00pm . Each week will include our prayer time, an Andy Griffith episode which will serve as a modern-day parable using relevant scriptures, and discussion. Matthew writes in his gospel, “Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable” (Matthew 13:34, NIV).

Watch Summer Calendars for Fellowships leading up to our 50th Anniversary Celebration of constructing the Sanctuary and Educational building.

From the Stewardship Committee: In the February Church Conference, the Stewardship Committee recommended that Boiling Springs Baptist Church begin raising funds to replace 117 windows in our educational space at $500 each (total of $58,500). Approval of replacing the windows came first and then approval was also given to begin raising the needed funds for this project. Individuals can give money to purchase one or more windows in memory or in honor of loved ones. Classes may decide to purchase a window together or to purchase the number of windows in their room. All financial gifts will be accepted towards the purchase of new windows. You do not have to give $500. These gifts are over and above your tithe. The goal for receiving these funds is September 8, 2019 (the date of our 50th Anniversary Celebration of worshipping in our current sanctuary). Preschool and Children... Levi gave Will a gift for his birthday, “Thank you, Levi!” said Will. Do you ever get presents? Do you remember to say thank you? It’s important to say thank you when someone gives you a gift. Did you know that God gives us presents every day? He gives us our home and food. He gives us sunshine and rain. Those are all gifts. Remember to say thank you to God for everything He gives you every day. As we go into the summer months, after a wonderful school year of activities in our children and pre-k department, I want to again say thank you to the many people who helped make Sunday and Wednesday evenings successful! You made it happen and the children and I are so grateful for your time, energy, and most importantly, your love. I want to say thank you to all the parents who supported our pre-k and children activities during this school year. I am most grateful for all your encouraging words and most importantly for bringing your children to our Sunday and Wednesday activities. It has been an awesome year! Thank you! The school year ends and the busy summer starts. There are many activities being planned for family and children this summer. As we start the summer with VBS, I hope you all have that on your calendar, as well as the family swim night at the Ruby Hunt Y! Please take time to look at the calendar and listen for times and places for activities. Summer is always a good time to spend with other families and share time with our children, too. I hope all of you have Sunday, June 9 on your calendar from 4:30 to 8:00 for our VBS kick off and hot dog supper. A Message from Our Youth Minister... Summer is officially here! Congratulations to all of the students, teachers, and faculty who are about to or have completed another school year. For those who will get some much-deserved time off in the summer, we hope it is time that will bring rest and renewal. Summer is both a busy and exciting time for church, especially youth ministry. We have created a calendar for all of the dates and events for the youth ministry throughout the summer. These calendars are located outside of the office if you are interested in picking one up. One major change to our weekly schedule throughout the summer will be the addition of Youth Day. Each Tuesday (with a few exceptions) all students are encouraged to meet at the church at 8 AM. We will spend the entire day together eating breakfast, doing local and/or in-church mission projects, eating lunch, and doing a fun activity. We will spend some time at the church and some time away from the church on these days. We think this will provide opportunities for students to be involved in ongoing local mission projects throughout the summer while incorporating a fun day each week to build relationships with one another. These days will be from 8 AM-5 PM and we hope to accomplish some important things during these times! All students, families, and church members are encouraged to take notice of our calendar for the summer and pay attention to added events and dates as well. Summer is going to be busy and fun! Sunday, June 16th is Father’s Day! There are flyers located around the church with information about buying carnations for the Sanctuary on Father’s Day. These flowers are $5 each and can be purchased in honor or in memory of a father or father figure. A portion of the money raised for these flowers helps our students and our youth ministry. Please fill out a flyer or call the church office no later than Monday, June 10 to purchase a carnation! Below are some dates and events for the youth ministry in the month of June: Wednesday, June 5th and Thursday, June 6th there will be student and family meetings for Student Life Camp at 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall. Every family of each student, and the student who is attending camp this summer, is required to attend one of these meetings! If a family or student cannot attend, please let us know ASAP! The youth ministry summer schedule will officially begin the week of June 17th. Tuesday, June 18th will be the first Youth Day of the summer. Wednesday, June 19th will be the first Wednesday night Games and Devotion from 67:30 PM in the Youth Room. These two activities will take place each week unless otherwise noted! Friday, June 28th-Saturday, June 29th we will have a Lock-in at church to kick-off the summer! We will meet at the church in the LEC at 7 PM on Friday night and pick-up will be Saturday morning at 8 AM. Any adults who are willing to sign-up and be present for a shift of the night or morning, you are always welcome! These are always incredible nights and students will not want to miss it! If you’re interested in helping, please let us know! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know! With love, Mary and Alan Newcomb Graduate Sunday, June 2, 2019 Alan Newcomb, preaching Graduate Recognition during Worship Graduate Lunch in Fellowship Hall If you have or know of a graduate in our church, please call the church with information, so that we can recognize, prepare gifts and honor them and their families with lunch on June 2, Graduate Day.

The church library committee has been faithfully at work verifying our adult non-fiction section. We have been “reading” bookshelves which simply means putting books in order, weeding out some selections and making sure there is a record for every book remaining on the shelves. The next step is identifying and ordering new books to fill the “gaps.” All of this lends integrity to our library which is, after all, an institution and institutions must have integrity as a foundation. As we have touched and voiced aloud each book, one by one, truly, our little church library has a wealth of Christian literature by authors known for their reliable guidance in Christian thought and who are encouragers in Christian living. Thanks to every committee member and volunteer for their contributions. The committee welcomes anyone interested in volunteering for there is much left to be done. All committees are encouraged to use the library for meetings. Individuals are always welcome when needing a quiet place to read or just “to be.” Make your summer reading list now and get started!

Church News... A Note from Don and Janet Pittman A world of thanks to you. Te#ekur ederiz. May God bless you for all your support for our ministry in Turkey. Recent baptisms and professions of faith in our church show that God is still working here to draw people to Him when we lift Him up! Phil 1:3-5 I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you. I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.
