“It is absolutely vital that we educate the next generations of designers and engineers to support an economy in which the Chancellor, George Osborne, wants ...the words: Made in Britain, Created in Britain, Designed in Britain and invented in Britain to drive our nation forward.” Design & Technology Association. Technology department has “design process” at the centre of all we do. We build on and develop the Programmes of Study from KS2 Technology into KS3. We prioritise on the development of skills and experiences students gain in KS3 Technology with these experiences positively impact on other subject areas. Topics covered follow the PBLS (Project based learning) programme and would be to ensure that technologists have through these topics: 

Excellent problem solving, design and technical skills which is related to society and its current and future needs.

Practical skills – from basic manual techniques through to experience of the latest cutting-edge technology including CAD/CAM when available.

A broad Technical understanding of the breadth of domestic and industrial applications of Technology.

The ability to link learning with other National Curriculum subjects, particularly science and mathematics.

At the start of the year we baseline test the students to assess their Technological understanding from their different primary schools, setting them so we can give each student the right amount of support or stretch and challenge they need within their group. NLA follows the National Curriculum for Technology. Students are assessed against NC Technology Levels in four key areas set out by the Programmes of study within KS3 Technology: 

Designing

Making

Evaluation

Technical Knowledge

Students have two assessments each PBLS project. These will contribute towards overall final Level within Technology at the end of key Stage 3. These levels (including Sub levels) will be communicated with you via the reports system.

Home learning is set within each project to consolidate or extend the learning within the lessons.
