If anyone has a suggestion for additional English Language books that they feel qualify as a “learning” book (information or stories that are more “lesson” than “entertainment”) and are not listed on the attached Hasmoda List, contact Rabbi Baumann by Monday. Thank you.

magnificent exhibit of our students’ projects was on display at our School Science Fair this past week. Everyone enjoyed viewing the interesting projects created by our 4th and 5th graders and discovering the exciting results of the various experiments. Many thanks to our Science Teacher, Miss Johnson, for her efforts in directing and guiding our students with their projects these last few months. The quality of the students’ projects is evidence of Miss Johnson’s input coupled with the efforts of the students and parents. Mazel Tov to the winners whose names were announced at an awards ceremony at the special assemblies on Wednesday.

Erev Shabbos Parashas Vayikra 5770 Dear Parents, Every year at this time, the principals of our local high schools send a letter to all parents warning of the influx of tourists to the area for Pesach, among who, unfortunately, are a few unsavory characters who prey on young adults, and young people who exhibit inappropriate behavior. Specific areas – such as the boardwalk and the perimeters of the Pesach hotels are singled out as especially undesirable areas, and parents must ensure our teenagers do not hang out around there. This particular warning does not extend to our elementary aged children, as it is understood and universally practiced, that young children are not allowed to go unsupervised to such areas. What is not so clearly understood or appreciated is the potential for harm to reach our young children through the Internet. Some parents, unwittingly, are allowing their children access to sites, people and situations that they would never, never permit, if it meant going to a place where ‘bad stuff’ was possibly happening. This is a problem that is not the parents’ doing, nor is it easily solved. Many of us have made the decision to allow Internet access in our homes. Not all of us have figured out how to keep our children (or ourselves) safe in such an environment. In order to address this concern, the Principals of our local yeshivas and day schools have gotten together to tackle this formidable challenge. Four years ago there was a community-wide gathering that dealt with the dangers of the Internet and was very well attended. Follow-up was not concerted and the momentum was lost. This spring, efforts are being renewed. The first step will be a community-wide event on Wednesday evening April 21, at the NMB Performing Arts Theater. (Please mark your calendar now) This program will be considered as the first of the four parent workshops that our parents are expected to attend (as detailed in the cover letter accompanying the registration forms for next year). The speakers will also address the students, in their respective schools, during the school day. Following the 21st, planning will be ongoing as to how best to help the parents fulfill their responsibility to protect their children. By focusing on this seemingly overwhelming challenge our generation faces, and by working together, we are confident that all of us; educators, community leaders and parents, can help fortify our children against the potential emotional and spiritual harm posed by uncontrolled access to the Internet. Watch for further details. Have a wonderful Shabbos,

Rabbi Kalman Baumann Principal
