CHALLENGE 4 Take part in a six-day residential teambuilding course Between 17 and 22 June, volunteers took part in a six-day residential in Dartmoor National Park. This teambuilding experience was delivered by Spirit of Adventure, one of the leading providers of adventurous activities in southern England. During this teambuilding course, volunteers catered for themselves in the remote Bachelors Hall Bunkhouse (a recently converted granite barn situated in the heart of Dartmoor National Park) and participated in a wide range of skills and tasks that culminated in a final team challenge. Volunteers were given total ownership of their residential, having to make genuine choices regarding what activities they wanted to do and when and how they wanted to do them. As a result the team became highly motivated and focused on achieving their final objective with only seconds to spare!

A Flag must be raised by 'The Protector' to ensure the continued freedom of Dartmoor. The Protector must be wearing the ‘badge of office’. The Team are to escort 'The Protector', find and carry the flag pole, make and provide a suitable flag and a means to hoist the flag to the top of the pole. The flag pole must be self supporting.

The Protector The Protector ensures the freedom of the Dartmoor by raising a flag on ‘Down Tor’ on certain occasions during the year. There is opposition to this so the protector is in hiding. Unfortunately, in a recent uprising, injury has caused the loss of use to both legs. The Protector can be carried or walk unaided with the help of ‘walking pills’, or given artificial legs, but will still need physical support. The Protector’s location can be purchased the night before the flag is due to be raised.

Items which you may need to purchase to achieve your objective. Your currency is ‘Beans’, these may be earned by successfully completing tasks as shown on the tasks sheets. Listed below are the items you may wish to purchase to complete your final objective. The shop is only open on Friday morning.
