New Degree String and Parent String in PostGrads

New Degree and Parent Strings can now be generated in PostGrads Reporting and are available in selected reports. Eventually, the information will be available in Document Manager and Ad Hoc reporting. The Parent String and Short Degree String are in these list-based reports: VOLDTL10 – Volunteer Contact Report VOLDTL20 – Volunteer Contact Report – Sort for Regions Note: Enter your List ID and don’t worry about the other report parameters if you are not going to use other columns in the report.

They are also available in these event reports: EVNPAY02 – Event Registration List EVNRDT67 – Nametags Names List How is the Degree String calculated? Undergraduates o The social class year is presented if the entity is a student, former student who did not complete a degree (non- grad), or a degree holder. If the entity has two undergraduate degrees the social class year is presented only once. o Format:

‘yy

Graduate o If the degree is at the Masters or Doctoral level, both the degree and the social class year are presented. Information is presented for students and degree-holders, except for the addition of pre-1977 Sloan certificates (who are presented despite lack of a degree). Abandoned (non- grad) data is not shown for graduate degrees. o Format:

DD ‘yy

How is it different from the current (longer) Degree String in Ad Hoc reporting? o No schools indicated, no quarter counts for attempted degrees, no certificates indicated, and no degree for undergrads – just the social class. Special Adjustments: o o o o

New Degree String and Parent String in PostGrads How does the Parent String work? o A string is created for both spouses based on all of the children related to either member of the couple. o Relationships that trigger a Parent String include those with: Mother, Father, Parent, Guardian, and Step-parent o The string contains data for undergraduate children (i.e. no grad degrees shown). o The SCYs are listed in ascending order. o If more than one child is in a particular SCY, the year is shown more than once. o The Parent String is created even when the parent and/or children are deceased. Examples of the Parent String: o o o o

An additional column in the download titled ‘parent_child_degree_ind’ signals the following: o D = at least one child in the string is deceased o N = at least one child in the string is a non-Grad o B = at least one child in the string is deceased and one is a non-Grad, they could be the same child or different children
