Installation and Programming Instructions Part: Service Gateway 4190-9816 Introduction

The Service Gateway is a service-only application that enables a connected service PC to establish two-way communications between a compatible Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) and an authorized technician using Instant Messaging (IM), Email, or Text messages (SMS, Short Message Service; or MMS, Multimedia Messaging Service) on a remote device.

How it Works

The remote device communicates by sending command line instructions and the FACP returns its response as well as sending other selected non-test related activity that occurs. Note: Operation requires the Service Gateway PC and the remote device to be able to sustain communications throughout the areas of the facility where they are located.

Compatible Panels

This application is compatible with the following panels*: 4100ES /4100U/ 4100+/ 4100 / 4010/ 4120/ 4006/ 4008/ 4020 *All panels must be equipped to with either an RS-232 card, Telnet Interface (Service Port that supports command line), be a 4100U or 4100ES with Ethernet service port, or a 4100ES with a Building Network Interface Card.

Service Gateway 4190-9816

Service Gateway Accounts Overview

In order to communicate remotely with the Service Gateway PC, both the Service Gateway PC and the Remote Device must have either their own IM account or a compatible Email account. For an IM account, use the AOL® AIM® Instant Messenger. IM is the preferred method due to quick response speed and convenient message formatting. For an Email account, we recommend creating a GOOGLE™ Gmail™ account. Note: Consult your Remote Devices’s billing plan in regards to internet and text messaging use in order to avoid unexpected additional fees that might result from using this application.

AIM Instant Messenger Account Setup

Create two IM accounts to communicate remotely with the Service Gateway PC using instant messaging. One account is for the Service Gateway PC, the other account is for the Remote Device. IMPORTANT:

Retain the account information, it will be used when configuring the Service Gateway application.

IM Requirements AIM Instant Messenger is the compatible IM program recommended for use with the Service Gateway. It is compatible with most computers, cellular phones, and other wireless mobile devices, and can be downloaded free of charge. Please check the specific product planned for use as the remote device to ensure it is compatible with either of these communications means. AIM Instant Messenger Account Setup • If AIM Instant Messenger is not already installed on the cellular phone or other mobile device, use the device to connect to www.aim.com and install per the following steps. This will ensure the device is compatible with IM. If you are sure the device is IM compatible, you can set up the remote device AIM Instant Messenger account from a PC if you prefer. Creating the Service Gateway’s AIM Instant Messenger Account and the Remote Device’s Account 1. Go to www.aim.com. 2. Select the AIM Instant Messenger platform you want to use. 3. Follow the instructions to create an account. Note for Technicians:

• When asked to create a user name follow this naming convention: - For the Service Gateway account, use gwlt + your employee number as your username. For example, if your employee number is 001122, your account username should be gwlt001122. (Enter as lower case, user names are not case sensitive.) - For the Remote Device account, use sgtr+ your employee number. In this same example, sgtr001122 would be your username. • When selecting passwords for the accounts, we recommend using the same password for each IM account. Choose a password that can be entered easily though a remote device. • Once both accounts have been created, add the Remote Device’s Username to the Service Gateway account’s contact list and vice versa.

4

Service Gateway 4190-9816

Service Gateway Accounts (Continued) Email Account Setup

Create two Email accounts to communicate with the Panel through Email, SMS, or MMS text messaging. IMPORTANT: Retain the account information, it will be used when configuring the Service Gateway application.

Email Account Requirements • The Email utility used must support POP3/SMTP. We recommend the use of the GOOGLE Gmail webmail service that offers this service free of charge. Creating the Service Gateway’S Email Account and the Remote Devices’s Email Account*. *If the remote device uses standard text messaging, you will only need to create an account for the Service Gateway.

1. Set up the account by going to the website of the Email provider (we recommend going to www.gmail.com) and follow the instructions. Note for Technicians:

• When asked to create a user name follow this naming convention: - For the Service Gateway account, use gwlt + your employee number as your username. For example, if your employee number is 001122, your account username should be [email protected]. (Enter as lower case, user names are not case sensitive.) - For the Remote Device account, use sgtr+ your employee number. In this same example, [email protected] would be your username. • When selecting passwords for the accounts, we recommend using the same password for each IM account. Choose a password that can be entered easily though a remote device. 2. When filling out the information to create the account, deselect the following check boxes: • Enable Web History • Set GOOGLE as my default homepage 3. Once the account has been successfully created. Go into the account, go to Settings/Fowarding (this menu is accessible by clicking on the gear shaped icon in the upper right corner) and POP/ IMAP. In the “POP Download” section make sure that the “When messages are accessed with POP” point is answered by “keep Gmail’s copy in the Inbox”. If you are not using Gmail select the similar option offered by the service provider. 4. Make sure that POP is enabled for all Email and that IMAP access is disabled.

Email Polling/ Receiving Frequency

 Message Size Control

Select the frequency at which you want the Remote Gateway to contact the Email server. The options are: • Poll as often as possible (recommended) • Poll every specified number of seconds (5 to 999 seconds) This allows the user to select the number of lines the Panel can send you per message (1 to 99 lines). This in an important option since most cellular phone providers limit an instant message to 200-400 characters. If you are using a cellular phone to contact the Panel it is recommended that you set the size limit between 2 and 5 lines. Note: Contact your cellular service provider to verify if a size limit is imposed on instant messages.

If the message requires more than the pre-determined number of lines, the Panel will send you another communication containing the rest of the message. Panel Output Compression

Select one or more of the following options to compress the message size. • Space compression (default = selected): This compresses the blank space within the message reducing its size. A series of three blank spaces or more will be replace by a colon (:) followed by a space (). • Time / date compression (default = selected): This compresses the event time stamp so that the day, date, and seconds are removed. The hours and minutes remain in the message.

Upper / Lowercase

This will determine the font style in which the message is output. • No Change: Selecting this will leave the Panel output as is. • All lower case (default = selected): Selecting this will make you receive all your Panel communications in lowercase characters. This option is advantageous since lowercase characters take up less space. • First letter upper case: Selecting this will make the first letter of each word in the Panel’s response uppercase.

Configuring Shortcut Options Overview

The Service Gateway allows the user to use pre-programmed command shortcuts or custom command shortcuts that can make communicating with the Panel easier and faster, especially when contacting the Panel through a cellular phone. The custom shortcuts are saved as part of the User Settings.

Using Shortcuts

Shortcuts can be used anywhere in your Panel communication. To use a shortcut at the beginning of a message: Start your message to the Panel with the shortcut letter. The shortcut will be detected automatically. Note: It is not necessary to add the shortcut identifier if the shortcut is at the beginning of the message (see To use a shortcut in mid-message)

To use a shortcut in mid-message: To use a shortcut in mid-message, the shortcut must be preceded by the special shortcut identifier character, which is set by default as a period (.). If necessary, the special shortcut identifier character can be modified by changing the shortcut identifier character in the Shortcut table. For example, if “G” was a shortcut and you wanted to use it in conjunction with another command (SH for example) you would enter the command as follows: “SH.G” Note: If it is necessary to use the shortcut identifier character in a command, the character can be entered twice to override the Service Gateway shortcut processing. For example, if the identifier character was set to a dash (-) and you wanted to enter the command "Sh m1-1" you would have to enter "Sh m1--1" instead.

14

Service Gateway 4190-9816

Configuring Shortcut Options (Continued) Creating Shortcuts

Create custom shortcuts by filling in the table found in the Shortcut window. Each shortcut can: • Be 1 - 80 characters in length • Have an expansion of up to 80 characters • To enter a control character in expansion list of the shortcut table, the user should first enter the caret symbol “^” followed by a character. For example, to enter “Ctrl-A”, the user should type “^A”. Note: The shortcuts cannot start with the identifier character.
