Sen. Wyden takes over Finance Committee, Calls for Action on Tax Extenders Today, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) was officially confirmed as the next U.S. ambassador to China by a vote of 96-0. Baucus' exit allows Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) to take over the Senate's powerful tax writing committee. In a statement today, Senator Wyden urged his colleagues to join him in taking action on the 55 expired tax provisions that expired at the end of 2013, including the New Markets Tax Credit. "I've already been on the floor talking about the tax extenders. Clearly if you don't take steps to address them it could be very damaging to some key parts of our economy," Wyden said. "I do feel it is important to make them a bridge to comprehensive tax reform." The Senate is likely to take up tax extenders before the end of the first quarter. Baucus' exit also opens up a Democratic seat on the Finance Committee. Senator Mark Warner (DVA) seems to be the frontrunner to take over the vacancy, with Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) also in the running.
