JOINT DOCTORAL PROGRAM IN PUBLIC HEALTH

A 5-year award from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Purpose is to provide focused academic and state-of-the-art research training in the biological or biomedical sciences to pre-doctoral public health graduate students in behavioral science majors. The goal is to equip future behavioral and social scientists with sufficient training in the biological/biomedical foundations of disease to understand the role of both behavior and biology in the etiology and control of disease.

Who is eligible to apply? •

Open to citizens and permanent residents of the US.



Individuals from underrepresented minority groups, those with disabilities, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

What is involved in the program?

Transdisciplinary Training in the

Behavioral and Biological/Biomedical Sciences



Coursework: Programs of study are individualized based on the trainee’s interests.



Research Training: Rotations in both behavioral and biologically/biomedically focused research labs.



Teaching: Teaching an undergraduate or master’s level course that integrates behavioral and biological principles.



Qualifying Exam & Dissertation: Incorporation of both behavioral and biological/biomedical elements into qualifying exams and doctoral dissertation work.
