What is the Revenue Purpose Statement?
• On September 8, MCSD school patrons will have an
opportunity to vote to continue the Revenue Purpose Statement (RPS). The current statement expires in 2019.

The Revenue Purpose Statement directs how the revenues from the state penny sales tax for the school district will be spent.

The state penny sales tax revenues are allocated by enrollment numbers.

It allows the district to use the general fund money for classrooms and students.

It can only be used for school infrastructure or property tax relief as defined in Iowa Code.

What the RPS is NOT…
• It does NOT raise local taxes. u
The Revenue Purpose Statement directs the district in how to spend the revenue from the state penny sales tax.

It is not a new tax. The State of Iowa levies this tax regardless of the Revenue Purpose Statement.
• It cannot be used for salaries. u

What Are Some Uses from the MCSD Revenue Purpose Statement? • Construction, reconstruction, repair, and demolition work (not maintenance-type repair)
• Purchasing or remodeling of schoolhouses, stadiums, gyms, fieldhouses, and bus garages
• Procurement of schoolhouse construction sites and the making of site improvements.
• Purchase and improvement of grounds. • Technology. • Purchase of school buses.
