Reflecting Images © Prisms are a beautiful reflection of light. This drama challenges us to remember to allow God’s light to reflect beauty through us. Key words:

gifts beauty reflecting God’s grace example

Cast: This monologue will have a woman, who could be any age. Set, Sound: There would be no particular set or sound necessary. Costume: Actress should be in everyday clothing. She will need to have a small prism, perhaps the size of her hand. Light: Regular stage lights will be all that is necessary. Script: Scene opens as actress enters stage right. She is carrying a prism in her hand. She takes her time walking up on the stage, because she is involved in looking at this prism. Actress, startled:

Oh, hello! I forgot you were coming today. (Smiling.) No offense, of course! (Holds up prism.) I was just looking at something that was given to me. It’s a prism. You know, I’ve had this thing for a few days now, and I just can’t seem to stop looking at it. I find it so interesting. What really gets me is that you look at it and it is just a hunk of glass. There is really nothing special about it. Until the light shines through it! Have you ever seen a prism? I’m sure everyone knows that when light hits a prism it gives off the most amazing reflection. When the light hits it at different angles, it changes the reflection totally. Amazes me that even though the light is the same and never changes, the reflection can change so much. The first thing I noticed about the reflection was all the beautiful colours. For something that sure doesn’t look like it has much inside, it can sure give off an array of beauty. I also love the shapes that the prism reflects. If you look real closely at a prism, it looks like there’s just a bunch of jagged edges. But when it reflects such beautiful images, it is almost like the maker knew exactly what to do and how to create the perfect cuts so that the prism could be radiant.

Smiles to herself. Actress, looking directly into the audience: Isn’t it amazing what the light can do with something that at first glance seems ordinary and lifeless?! Think about this – how do you reflect the Light? It’s okay to start off ordinary and lifeless. But you can’t stay that way. The Creator molded you perfectly to reflect an image of beauty, purity, and holiness. Are you hiding from the Light, or do you let others see your reflection? Starts to exit stage left, then pauses and turns back toward the audience. Actress:

Check out your reflection. It’s amazing to see what the Light can do through something ordinary.

Exits stage right.
