RACHEL MASON – ARTIST BIO Rachel Mason is a sculptor and musician and has written and recorded over two hundred original songs and regularly performs large scale and site specific performances involving dancers, musicians and other artists, with her rock ensemble, Little Band of Sailors. She has been called, “Alice Cooper meets Carol King.” Mason has been featured in publications including The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Flash Art, Art in America, Art News, Artforum. Her work has been shown at the Detroit Museum of Contemporary Art, School of the Art Institute in Chicago, Henry Gallery in Seattle, James Gallery at CUNY, University Art Museum in Buffalo, Sculpture Center, Hessel Museum of Art at Bard and Occidental College and she has performed at venues including the Kunsthalle Zurich, The Park Avenue Armory, Tonic, Art in General, La Mama, Galapagos, Dixon Place,and The Empac Center for Performance in Troy. PROJECT STAMENT Influenced by science fiction, religious texts, and historic events, Rachel Mason creates musical performances inserting herself into a fictional world with an ensemble of collaborators including dancers, acrobats, singers and actors. In past performances Mason has scaled buildings, serenaded sculptures and performed operas in the street. Mason will create a site specific performance for the interior space of Vogt Gallery..
