                                                                                                                                                   Mission La Joya Independent School District is committed to providing a quality education for every student in our district. To accomplish this goal we know and understand parental support is critical every step along the way. Everyone gains when school, home, and community collaborate and work for the high academic achievement of our students.                                                                                                                  Statement of Purpose   The La Joya Independent School District administration, faculty, support staff, parents and community members shall develop, agree upon and distribute to parents a written District Parental Involvement Policy. The policy will set expectations and establish a framework for quality parental involvement participation. This will be achieved as part of the district’s improvement plan process in accordance (20 U.S.S. 6312) with the legal requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.The following policy action plan is in compliance with the legal requirements of No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (PL 107-110 Section 1118). This policy plan will be available to all parents of La Joya Independent School District.  

           

District Support for Parent Involvement

    The district shall provide coordination, technical assistance and other support necessary to assist schools in building capacity for strong parent involvement to improve student academic achievement and school performance.      

 

           Campus  Support  for  Parent  Involvement        CAMPUS  PARENTAL  INVOLVEMENT  POLICY    

  Each school will develop a written parent involvement policy. This policy must be developed jointly with, agreed on with and distributed to parents. The policy will describe how the school will carry out the requirements of subsections (c) through (g) which are: 1. (c) POLICY INVOLVEMENT 2. (d) SHARED RESPONSIBLITIES FOR HIGH STUDENT ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT 3. (e) BUILDING CAPACITY FOR INVOLVEMENT 4. (f) ACCESSIBLITY 5. (g) INFORMATION OF PARENT INFORMATION RESOURCE CENTERS

The following information provides details for each of the subsections listed above: (c) POLICY INVOLVEMENT ! Convene an annual meeting for parents which will be held in September, at a convenient time, to explain the requirements of the written policy and Title I Part – A programs and guidelines. ! offer a number of meetings at varying times, e.g. morning and evening ! Maintain documentation of meetings 1. Publicity and Invitation of events 2. Agendas for meetings of programs 3. Sign ins 4. Minutes 5. Letters, newsletters, and any other printed information 6. Phone call logs and home visits 7. Evaluations ! Involve parents in the planning, review and improvement of the parent involvement policy and plan. Let parents know the policy will be revised annually to meet the changing needs of students, parents and the school. ! provide parents timely information about parent involvement programs ! provide parents with a description and explanation of the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress; and curriculums ! provide parents with a description and explanation of the proficiency levels students are expected to meet ! if requested by parents, provide regular meetings for parents to offer suggestions and to participate in decisions relating to the education of their children ! If the District Plan for Title 1, Part A under section 1112 is not satisfactory to parents, the school district will submit any parent comments with the plan to the District, and the school districts submits the plan to the state department of education ! The school district will involve the parents of the children served in Title 1, Part A schools in decisions about the 1 percent of Title 1 Part A funds reserved for parental involvement is spent, and will ensure that not less than 95% of the 1 percent reserved goes directly to the schools. ! The school district will be governed by the following statutory definition of parental involvement and expects that its Title I Part A

School will carry out programs, activities, and procedures in accordance with this definition. ! Parental Involvement means the participation of parents in regular, two way, and meaningful communication involving student’s academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring— a. That parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning. b. That parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education at school; c. That parents are full partners in their child’s education and are included, appropriate in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their children. (d) SHARED RESPONSIBILITIES FOR HIGH STUDENT ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT ! each school will jointly develop, with parents, a school-parent compact that outlines how parents, school staff and students will share responsibility for improved student academic achievement ! the compact will describe the school’s responsibility to provide high-quality curriculum and instruction, and parent responsibility for supporting their children’s learning ! the compact will address the importance of communication between teachers and parents through conferences and reports to parents on children’s progress (e) BUILDING CAPACITY FOR INVOLVEMENT ! assist parents in understanding the State’s academic content standards, student academic achievement standards and academic assessments ! provide materials and training to help parents work with their children to improve their children’s achievement, such as literacy training and using technology, to foster parent involvement ! educate school personnel, with the assistance of parents, in the value and utility of contributions of parents, how to reach, communicate and work with parents ! Coordinate and integrate parent involvement programs and activities with other organizations such as Head Start, Parents as Teachers, etc. ensure that information related to school and parents programs, meetings and other activities is sent to parents in a format and language that parents can understand ! provide reasonable support for parent involvement activities as parents may request (f) ACCESSIBILITY ! Family and Community Engagement Department ! the compact will address parents having reasonable access to staff, opportunities to volunteer and observe classroom activities (g) INFORMATION OF PARENT INFORMATION AND RESOURCE CENTERS ! Inform parents of the existence and purpose the Rio Grande Valley Parent Information and Resource Centers
