New Amendments to the Zoning Ordinance… Several amendments and additions have been made to the zoning ordinance. Some of these have relaxed some set-backs, and lot coverage, but others have now required permits for all decks, patios, driveways & sidewalks. Residential & Commercial, solar & wind energy are also addressed. Please contact the zoning administrator before undertaking any construction within Ovid Township. The complete Zoning Ordinance can be viewed on our website, along with all standalone ordinances. PLANNING COMMISSION MEETINGS The planning Commission meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm at the : Ovid Township Hall 381 S. Angola Road All Land Splits must be filed with the Zoning Administrator & Assessor prior to recording the deed!!! When splitting any property in Ovid Township; there are steps that you must follow. If you are engaged in a land split, you must file proper paperwork with the Zoning Administrator prior to recording your deed. There are penalties for not following this procedure. In addition; Any land split within a platted sub-division must also be approved by the township board. An affidavit for landsplit form, from the zoning administrator will be necessary. This, along with your survey, must be presented to the township board for approval before registering any new deed with Branch County. Failure to follow these steps will result in a $100.00 fine. Whether you are involved in a land-split, considering building, or purchasing land, or adding to a property that you already own; you are responsible for contacting the proper authority for all legalities involved with your project! Whether this be the DEQ, County Building Dept., Health Dept., DNR, or the Township Zoning Dept. Failure to work through the project correctly will most certainly cost you in penalties, and or fines, and delay the project. The Zoning administrator can help you through much of this, but in the end… It’s the property owner’s responsibility to obtain the correct information and permits. Please contact Mr. Cronkhite or Township Clerk, Robbi Omo, for information regarding cemetery lots. Cemetery Lots are available for purchase in Lockwood, Sorter, and Wilson Cemetery. The cost is $100.00 for each burial space. No flowers, shrubs, trees, or vegetation shall be planted without approval of the township board, and all seasonal grave decorations must be removed on or before April 1st each Spring, November 1st, each Fall. Any seasonal decorations not removed by these deadlines may be removed and discarded by the township sexton. Township Ordinances! All township ordinances (zoning, as well as standalone) are available on the township web page at www.ovidtownship.org. Please refer to these before building, attempting land-splits, or any other questionable activity within the township.
