In addition to our Professional Development programs, the Division of Continuing Education offers community learning. Here are our fall offerings: Compassion Fatigue and Vicarious Trauma Education

Oct 27, 2016 9:00 am – 4:00 pm Compassion fatigue is a normal consequence of working in the helping field or of taking care of loved ones who are ill or otherwise need assistance. The best strategy to address compassion fatigue is to develop excellent self-care strategies. This program will enhance your coping skills and explore self-care techniques. You will develop an early warning system to help you recognize when you are moving into the caution zone of fatigue. For anyone providing support for loved ones, it will enhance home life so you can continue providing the necessary support and doing the work you love. On an organizational level, it will help reduce absenteeism and presenteeism and improve productivity while promoting cohesion in the workplace. Take Charge Nov 7-30, 2016 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm This program is designed for learners in transition, whether from school to work, one type of employment to another, or unemployment to employment. Module 1-Learning About Yourself: What skills and knowledge do I already

possess? What are my transferable skills? Module 2-The Emerging World of Work: What is the changing nature and structure of work today? What is my readiness to navigate this world? Module 3-Goal Setting and Action Plan: What steps do I need to take to plan for my future? Mentoring Fundamentals Mentors: Nov 15-16, 2016 & Mentees: Nov 17, 2016 8:30 am – 5:00 pm Positive and constructive relationships with quality mentors sets mentees up for better possibilities of achieving career success and overall fulfillment in their lives. This program prepares mentors and mentees to step into a mentoring partnership with clarity, confidence and inspiration. It will affirm, strengthen and expand upon a mentor’s core knowledge, competencies and personal leadership skills, building essential competencies and will contribute to creating and establishing higher standards and protocols in the “art and science” of Excellence in Mentoring.
