Biography Emily Oaks is a recent graduate from Southern Connecticut State University. Having completed her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education, she is a dedicated leader with the NEA Student Program. Oaks’ involvement began in 2009 when she discovered her local university chapter. Soon after joining, she served 3 semesters as a local leader and then as the chapter president in 2011-2012. Through her campus involvement, she sat on the state board for the Connecticut Education Association Student Program (CEA-SP) with other future educators from her state. By 2012-2013, Oaks went on to serve as the state chairperson of the CEA-SP, on the CEA Board of Directors, and as an appointed member of the NEA Advisory Committee of Student Members (ACSM). Oaks’ leadership has been recognized by numerous honors, including: NEA-SP’s Local Excellence Award reflecting her term as local president, NEA-SP’s Outstanding State Excellence Award reflecting her year as state president, SCSU’s Community Outreach Award, and the SCSU Community Service NEA Award. Today, she is serving a second term on of StuAdvisory C dent Memommittee the NEA ACSM. With 5 years of enriched leaderbers ‘ 12-’1 3 ship opportunities, Oaks continues to be IGNITED with PASSION to better the experiences of all college students across the country pursuing a degree in education.
