NRRA MARKET GUIDE 

Good for:  Identifying

high-value

items  General overview of market trends 

Not good for:  Using

as a quote for a specific location or load

NRRA MARKET GUIDE  NRRA

works hard to find the best prices

 Example

of scrap metal: NRRA price vs. peddler ($30$40 higher per gross ton)  We’re always “scanning” the marketplace; relationships with multiple vendors  We

can also help with pricing/contracts for MSW, C&D, Single Stream, Electronics, HHW, etc.

Questions?

BOL’S / LOAD TRACKING 

Why important?  Official

document detailing what is being shipped (remember, you’re accounting for town property)  Very helpful in settling weight discrepancies or other issues

BOL’S / LOAD TRACKING 

BOL “best practices” Make sure BOL has NRRA Rel # and any other reference/load #’s as necessary  Note start/stop times  Detail each commodity and # of bales/items shipped. Include weights if available  Do not fill out bale counts/weight info until after finished loading!  Make sure driver signs and give them a copy  Send a copy to NRRA (include bale tallies if available - the more documentation we have, the better we can help you if there’s an issue) 

Questions? BOL’s AVAILABLE ELECTRONICALLY @ WWW.NRRA.NET

LOADING,LOAD WEIGHTS,BALE SIZES, ETC. 

Loading bales for target load weight (diagram)  Other

loading schemes stack 3 & flip 1 or 2 on side

Safe Truck loading 

Please turn last row of bales lengthwise (diagram) Last row should be no more than 2 high

LOADING,LOAD WEIGHTS,BALE SIZES, ETC. 

Did you know…loads may be rejected for:  Unsafe

loading patterns used (bales, pallets, gaylords, etc.)  Bales break & stacks fall during unloading  Bales Off-spec or dangerous materials present  Wet or dirty product

LOAD WITH FALLING BALES… 

Unsafe for receiving mill staff to unload…

LOADING, LOAD WEIGHTS, BALE SIZES, ETC. 

Load Weights & Truckers….. 

Upon driver arrival ask how much weight you can load

Does driver have requirement for axle / load weight distribution?

Call NRRA immediately (before loading) if: 

Driver arrives with a refrigeration trailer

Driver will not accept minimum load weight required

Driver does not have paperwork (or release #s) to identify load

 

Trailer appears unsafe to load Trailer has other material on-board

Questions?

FLOOR SCALES  If you don’t have one, you should get one!  Invaluable for tracking bale weights & inventory  Keep tallies and know when you have enough to ship a full load  Avoid low-weight charges and have documentation to help resolve weight discrepancies  Start charging residents by weight for fee-based items (e.g. PAYT, electronics)

 Did you know…?  NH The Beautiful grant-funding available (up to 50%) & vendor discounts also available for NRRA members!!

Questions?

CONSOLIDATION  Who

has enough material & storage to make full loads, in a reasonable timeframe?

 If

not, Consolidation may be your answer!

 Basic

Concept

- To consolidate small quantities of presorted recyclables from multiple municipalities

CONSOLIDATION…. NRRA Sites & Services: 

Keene Fibers, Keene, NH @ Recycling Center - delivered Accepts presorted loose product (fibers & commingled)

Lebanon, NH @ Recycling Center Tire Consolidation Host site – delivered

NRRA PGA Host sites – 5 & more pending

NRRA arranges 2 & 3 stops to create full loads Send us your inventory sheet – see form

CONSOLIDATION 

Other Consolidation Sites

Swanzey, Marlborough, Fitzwilliam, Troy, NH

Plastics Consolidation Program

Town’s deliver their baled plastics to Swanzey’s facility

Members Helping Members

CONSOLIDATION Benefits… Facilities do not have to wait for full loads of material before marketing Storage requirements are reduced Facility efficiency is increased

Capture Market “highs” Higher revenues may be obtained May allow for additional material to be recycled Material Movement in down market

CONSOLIDATION - EXAMPLE 

Bulky Rigid Plastics - This material was once landfilled or incinerated;

Today it is recycled and taken out of the waste stream; Can be shipped to market with other towns product!
