Library News Book Fair Are you ready for our library’s Scholastic Book Fair? The Book Fair is a terrific opportunity to buy books for your home library. We’ll have books for younger children and some for adults too! Contents Book Fair

Students will watch the Book Fair preview video the week of Nov. 8-12 during language arts classes. They will also explore our Book Fair

Writing Contest WVMS Library is sponsoring a writing contest in connection with the A More Perfect Union Bookshelf from NEH.

Upcoming Events Author Visit, Nov. 5 Writing Contest Book Fair, Nov. 15-19

Students may enter in 3 categories: poetry collection, fiction, or nonfiction essay. Their writing should be in response to the theme. The deadline for entries is Nov. 12. Prizes will be awarded in each category and include $20 Books-A-Million gift cards, $10 Books-A-Million gift cards, and new books. Students who are interested should see Ms. Gasway. All of the books are posted

in a public list in our school catalog, so students can easily see which books are on hand. Some books are also available from other schools if requested. Ms. Gasway shared the books Oct. 12-18, and she will revisit the writing contest with classes the week of November 1-5. Students are encouraged to enter their writings to win!

Young Hoosier Author Visit & Contest James M. Deem, author of the 2010-11 Young Hoosier nominated book Bodies from the Ice, will visit WVMS on November 5th! Mr. Deem writes fiction and nonfiction books. His presentation will focus on his research and how he incorporates it into his writing. Bodies from the Ice examines the science of glaciers and looks at some of

the discoveries of the past that have been made as the ice masses move and melt, including the preserved frozen remains of Otzi, the oldest human mummy ever found in ice, believed to be at least 5,300 years old. Students will enter a contest using the author’s website and our library catalog the week of Oct. 25th. Prizes include signed copies of the author’s books. Entries are due Nov. 1.

INSPIRE Students will explore the databases of INSPIRE the week of Nov. 29-Dec.3.
