11 November 2015 Dear Parents/Carers I am writing to you with some updates for the Autumn term at Wellfield. Inspire and Achieve Chair of Governors As you will know Mrs Ann Brown has been acting as Chair of Governors for the last six months. Following a Full Governors meeting yesterday Maria Neale has been elected as our new Chair of Governors. Mrs Neale has been involved with Governors since 2008 and is currently the Children’s Centre Manager for South Ribble. She has vast experience of children’s services and of Wellfield, and is well placed to lead the Governors forward in the future to ensure the school continues to improve. Mrs Brown will return to Vice-Chair of Governors. I would like to thank Mrs Brown for all her support over recent months and know she is confident in passing the chair to Mrs Neale. Year 11 Parents Evening This Thursday is Year 11 Parents Evening, 4.30-7.00 p.m. It will be great to see all parents there for an update on your child’s progress in their final and crucial year at Wellfield, to make sure they are focused for the upcoming challenges and priorities. If there are issues with attending please contact Mrs Gowerson, Key Stage 4 Pastoral Manager at school. Sale Shark Number Cruncherz: Some Year 7 and members of the Rugby Academy are off to watch Sale Sharks play Pau in the European Cup next Saturday 21 November at the AJ Bell stadium. Remembrance Day: As a school we always observe the silence at 11 a.m. and this year we have developed some resources, which will be delivered to pupils during an extra tutorial today. Our pupils are very respectful towards this occasion. We have been privileged this year to be asked to be involved in the dedication ceremony for the new Memorial in South Ribble, our head girl Chloe Juniper will be reading at the ceremony. Challenge We are waiting for a visit from Ofsted and will inform parents immediately we are notified. They will be seeking the views of parents and, as previously mentioned, they use Parentview to gather your opinions about school. We have a significant number of views from surveys we complete every parents evening but they will no doubt want more up to date. Parents can submit views now by registering at https://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk and then resubmit their views when Ofsted visit. Friends of Wellfield Bingo Night: Our PTA Friends of Wellfield Bingo Night was a genuine success and we were overwhelmed by the support. We raised £375 on the evening. Thank you to everyone who supported the event before with donations and on the actual night. Nurture Fireworks Just after the half-term break the Fire and Rescue Service delivered assemblies to all pupils on keeping safe around fireworks. I hope all pupils continue to keep themselves safe.

Coats and Helmets As the weather is becoming colder and wetter I urge parents to ensure pupils are dressed appropriately and wear a coat when necessary. I also remind parents to encourage your son or daughter to wear a cycle helmet if cycling to school. Thank you as ever for your continued support of the school. Yours sincerely
