Pastor Brian Jobe 1 Kings 2:1-3 (NIV)

King of Hearts: A Leader’s Heart “When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son. ‘I am about to go the way of all the earth,’ he said. ‘So be strong, show yourself a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in his ways, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and requirements, as written in the Law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go.’” 1 Kings 2: 1-3 1. BUILD THE HEART OF A KING. This is the part of our heart that loves righteousness. “Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary? Who may live on your holy hill? He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from his heart and has no slander on his tongue, who does his neighbor no wrong and casts no slur on his fellowman, who despises a vile man but honors those who fear the Lord, who keeps his oath even when it hurts, who lends his money without usury and does not accept a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.” Psalm 15:1-5 This part of a man’s heart develops fully when his faith gets fully integrated into the rest of his life! 2. BUILD THE HEART OF A WARRIOR. “But you, man of God, pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6: 11-12 3. BUILD THE HEART OF A LOVER. Expressing the heart of a lover is often as unnatural to a man as the warrior is natural. “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” Ephesians 5:25 4. BUILD THE HEART OF A FRIEND. “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” Proverbs 17:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17 Encouraging friendships take time and intentionality, and there is a price that must be paid. Christians have a heavenly Father who promised: "I'll never leave you nor forsake you."
