NIGHTLIFE PROGRAMS Explore a new side of the Zoo, when you visit one of our evening or overnight programs. Four programs are offered to allow participants to see the Zoo in a different light: ZooSnoozes, Twilight Tours, Nocturnal Adventures and Evening Nocturnal Adventures. Choose the one that best meets the needs of your group. Each program is designed to provide participants with a one-of-a-kind educational experience at the Zoo, where they can increase their love of animals and nature in a unique setting. These programs are offered on limited dates, and spots fill quickly. Registration requires a minimum of a three week notice but spaces often fill months in advance.

ZOOSNOOZE ANY GROUP

7 pm – 7 am

This overnight program allows all types of groups to experience the excitement of the Birmingham Zoo after dark. ZooSnooze programs are perfect for Scouts, church groups, birthday parties and any other type of group. ZooSnoozes include:  Live animal demonstration  Carousel ride  Engaging activity  Break time for snacks  Thrilling night tour of the Birmingham Zoo  Continental style breakfast Upon conclusion of a ZooSnooze, all participants will receive a Birmingham Zoo ZooSnooze patch and a free pass to visit the Zoo. Passes are only valid the day following the snooze. REMINDER: The Birmingham Zoo does not open until 9:00am so please plan accordingly.

Three different types of ZooSnooze programs are offered:

INDIVIDUAL GROUP Any type of group with a minimum of 30 people can register for an Individual Group ZooSnooze. These programs are designed for larger groups to enjoy a one-of-a-kind overnight experience with part of the Zoo to themselves. A minimum of 30 participants is required for each program. If less than 30 people attend, a flat rate charge will apply. A $100 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve a date. Final payment of the remainder balance is due upon arrival. Final expected number of attendees must be confirmed with Zoo staff at least three days preceding the program date.

OPEN GROUP NIGHTS These special programs are offered for smaller groups who would like to attend but perhaps do not have enough people for the minimum Individual Group attendance. At each of these events multiple groups may attend. This is a great opportunity to spend time with your individual group while meeting new friends. It’s a fun program for Scouts, Church groups, birthday parties, sleepovers or just spending time with friends. Several Open Group Nights will be offered during the year. Three different types are available based upon your group:   

Girls Only Boys Only Family & Friends (Co-ed)

Please note: all participants must meet the requirements for the program. A minimum of 20 total participants is required for each program. If less than 20 people register, registrants will be contacted and given the option to reschedule to another Open Group Night or receive a refund. Full payment is required to reserve spaces.

MEMBERS-ONLY These special programs are offered specially for the Members of the Birmingham Zoo. These events offer a great opportunity for a fun-filled overnight experience with your family while meeting other Members of the Zoo. A minimum of 20 total participants is required for each program. If less than 20 people register, registrants will be contacted and given the option to reschedule to an Open Group Night or receive a refund. Full payment is required to reserve spaces. All participants must be covered by a Birmingham Zoo membership.

TWILIGHT TOURS ANY GROUP

7 pm – 10 pm

This evening program offers an intriguing view of the Birmingham Zoo’s night life. Twilight Tours are perfect for Scouts, church groups, birthday parties, clubs and any other type of group. Twilight Tours offer the evening fun of a ZooSnooze without spending the night. Twilight Tours include:  Live animal demonstration  Carousel ride  Break time for snacks  Thrilling night tour of the Birmingham Zoo Upon conclusion of a Twilight Tour, all participants will receive a Birmingham Zoo Twilight Tour patch.

NOCTURNAL ADVENTURES School Groups

7 pm – 7 am

This overnight program is for school groups only and presents a fantastic combination of adventure and learning. Nocturnal Adventures is an academic program that allows school groups to experience the nocturnal side of the Birmingham Zoo. Nocturnal Adventures include:  Live animal demonstration  Carousel ride  Educational Activity  Break time for snacks  Exciting night tour of the Birmingham Zoo  Continental style breakfast Note: Students must be in at least the 1st grade to attend. Public, Private and HomeSchool classes from 1st12th grade are eligible to attend. A minimum of 20 participants is required for each program. If less than 20 people attend, a flat rate charge will apply. A $100 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve a date. Final payment of the remainder balance is due upon arrival. Final expected number of attendees must be confirmed with Zoo staff at least three days preceding the program date.

This program is for school groups only and offers a special evening animal adventure. This fun program allows school groups to experience the nocturnal side of the Birmingham Zoo without spending the night. Evening Nocturnal Adventures include:  Live animal demonstration  Carousel ride  Break time for snacks  Exciting night tour of the Birmingham Zoo Note: Students must be in at least the 1st grade to attend. D.N.A.: Dinosaur Night Adventures Add-On Any Group See the Birmingham Zoo’s Dinosaur Discovery exhibit in a whole new way. Add a fun learning experience about dinosaurs, fossils, adaptations and more to your Nightlife Program. Enjoy a guided night or evening tour of this traveling exhibit as you learn about these amazing animals. Due to the limited engagement of the exhibit, this add-on will only be available April-July, 2016 or while the exhibit is in operation. Cost is $3.00/person in addition to program price.

PAYMENT/MINIMUM ATTENDANCE Each program has a minimum attendance and payment policy. Please see the information for each program for details.

RELEASE FORMS A signed Release Form (see page 12) is required for every participant, both adult and child. Release forms for children must be signed by their parents. Forms must be brought to the Zoo and given to staff upon arrival.

PROGRAM TIMES Program times are as scheduled unless other arrangements have been made. If your group is scheduled to arrive early or extend their visit (ex. leave after 7:00am) a $25/hour charge will apply to your total. A Zoo staff person must be with the group at all times. Extended times must be scheduled in advance.

ARRIVAL It is recommended that your group may arrive slightly before the scheduled start time. The program begins promptly. Zoo staff will be available to greet your group at the scheduled time and will have a brief orientation session before leading the group into the area where sleeping areas will be set up. (NOTE: Twilight Tour and Evening Nocturnal Adventures participants will proceed directly to the program activities) Attendees will be sleeping outdoors. They must supply their own tents or sleep outside under the stars. Limited space will be available under the carousel cover and along buildings for slightly covered areas. *Late Arrivals: You are attending a program when the Zoo is closed. The Zoo gates will be locked shortly after the program begins. Late arrivals can only be accommodated by prior arrangement. If you are delayed on route, please call the Zoo staff at 205-910-0907 to inform us of the situation. You must call by the program start time, or your program will be cancelled. Please remember if you arrive late then the evening’s activities will be condensed.

WEATHER Programs occur in all weather. All cancellations are based upon weather reports and will be decided prior to the program by Zoo staff. It is the responsibility of the group leader to inform all participants of a cancellation. If you have concerns about severe weather, please call Carrie Brooks at 205-397-3864 as soon as possible.

RESCHEDULING OR REFUNDING YOUR PROGRAM If a group decides to reschedule their program, an additional $25 charge will be added to the initial price. Any rescheduling requests must occur at least two weeks in advance. If a program is cancelled due to weather, the Birmingham Zoo will work with the group to reschedule the program. The group will have one year from the initial date to reschedule the program. If for any reason other than weather the Birmingham Zoo has to cancel a group’s program, the entire deposit, as well as any other payments, will be refunded. If a group chooses to cancel their program for any reason other than weather within 2 weeks before the date, the deposit or payment will be forfeited. If you must cancel or reschedule your program, please call Carrie Brooks at 205397-3864 as soon as possible.

SUPERVISION The Zoo requires 1 adult (age 18 years or older) for every 10 children (age 17 and under). At least one male and one female chaperone must accompany coed groups. Children younger than five years old are not permitted unless prior approval has been given by the Birmingham Zoo Education Department.

FIRST AID/MEDICAL The Birmingham Zoo is not responsible for first aid or emergency medical assistance. Birmingham’s 911 services provide emergency assistance. Zoo staff will offer assistance with minor first aid whenever possible (Band-Aids, etc.) All medical expenses, such as ambulance service, etc. will be at the injured party’s expense.

TOURS & ANIMAL SHOWS Please remember that your tours and animal encounters involve exotic animals which may or may not be on exhibit or available for presentation due to each animal’s unique health and environmental requirements. Therefore, it is impossible to guarantee that your group will be able to view any specific animal during the tour or animal encounter. Only adults will be allowed to use flashlights during the night tour of the Zoo. Adult chaperones must bring their own flashlights.

NEXT DAY ADMISSION Admission to the Zoo for the following day is included as part of the ZooSnooze and Nocturnal Adventures Programs. This admission is valid for this day only, rain or shine, and is not transferrable. No refunds will be issued.

NIGHTLIFE PROGRAM RELEASES AND CODE OF CONDUCT CODE OF CONDUCT Birmingham Zoo’s Nightlife Programs are all about respect for animals and people. It is expected that all participants respect themselves, other people, the Zoo and nature. Respectful behavior will ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. At the beginning of the program, the Zoo Staff will further discuss the group’s expectations, as well as ways to be respectful during the program. These expectations will be appropriate for each program, based on their age. As a parent or legal guardian or chaperone, I further understand that: 1. I am financially responsible for any damages that I, my child or children within my care cause while at the Birmingham Zoo. 2. If I or my child disrupts the program or harms another attendee/volunteer/staff member, I/he/she will be dismissed immediately from the program and no refund will be issued. 3. If I or my child is dismissed from the Nightlife Program or becomes ill and cannot participate in the activities, I will receive no refund. It will be my responsibility to pick-up my child or call someone to pick-up the child from the Birmingham Zoo immediately. 4. My child is of the appropriate age for the program. I understand that if my child’s age does not meet the minimum age requirements that he/she will be dismissed from the program.

The undersigned acknowledges that this activity may expose the above-named individual to risks and hazards that may result in an injury, illness, personal injury or death. The undersigned accepts such risks and voluntarily chooses for the above-named individual to participate in the Nightlife Program after having been advised of such risks. The undersigned acknowledges that he or she has carefully read this release and has been advised about the opportunity to seek legal counsel prior to execution. By signing this form, the undersigned understands that this is a release of all claims for any illness, injury, or death that may result that occurs during this program. Medication: The Birmingham Zoo is NOT responsible for administering medication to Nightlife program participants. Please administer medication to the program participant prior to their arrival at the Birmingham Zoo. Should a program participant need medication during their time in a Nightlife program, the participant must be able to administer that medication without assistance. In the event that a third party needs to administer medication during a Nightlife program, the third party will need to either be present with the program participant or will need to come back to the Zoo to administer the medication. Please arrange an appointment to administer the medication with the program manager. In the event that a situation requires immediate attention, 911 will be called and medication will only be administered if directed to do so by emergency medical professionals.

PHOTO RELEASE The undersigned, for himself or herself, his or her minor child hereby authorizes Birmingham Zoo, Inc. and their agents to use the following described photographs of himself, herself or his or her minor child for the specific purpose of publication in both print and electronic media (to include use as a still photograph or transparency or use in a motion picture, video, or on television, or any other similar media). In giving consent, the undersigned hereby releases and hold harmless Birmingham Zoo, Inc., and their agents from any and all responsibility or liability, to include any claim for libel, slander, invasion of privacy, or any other claim. The undersigned understands that compensation will not be given, should the photograph be used.
