COMMUNICATION CORNER Parking at Olivedale Due to the increase in parking annoyances caused by vehicles parked outside the guidelines provided on the lot, we are asking for cooperation to make a habit of examining the area on each side as well as in front and behind after exiting your vehicle. This will help avoid interruption from an activity or having a parking lot accident/incident. Please keep in mind that this is a City parking lot and is patrolled periodically by the Lancaster Police Department. Be mindful of where you park.

Building Rental Fee Increase Most are aware that Olivedale’s building can be rented for activities when Olivedale is not in operation. In attempt to better align our rental fees with area average rates for our size facility, effective July 1, the fee schedule will change to a Non-member fee of $400 and a Member fee $250. Fees will represent the reserved duration of the event which includes room rental and tables and chairs. All other amenities are extra (i.e. table paper, table skirts, audio/video equipment, coffee pots and punch bowls.) Please refer to the new rental agreement for the amenity fee schedule.

EATING AT OLIVEDALE Coffee Club Stop in on Friday, June 3 for the monthly financial discussion group meeting at 9:30a. Topics of discussion will cover various aspects of the economy. Contact Allison Spangler at 740-653 -2308 for questions. 2nd Tuesday Lunch In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on that day in 1777. We are celebrating our great American Flag at our 2nd Tuesday lunch held on Tuesday, June 14. Chef Judy’s choice this month is a triple meat submarine sandwich, potato chips, pickle, a patriotic gelatin salad and for dessert a root beer float. Serving will be from 11:30a -12:30p and the cost is only $6. Don’t forget to make your reservation by Friday, June 10. Show our country appreciation by wearing red, white and blue! Also, what is more American than volunteering your services. If you are new to Olivedale and are looking for an opportunity to become a very important element of our success call the office today. Members who volunteer help to ensure our events continue. Fish Fry Eating any type of fish once a week is good for your memory. So try to remember to mark your

calendar to attend our fish fry. We will be frying up our flakey fish on Tuesday, June 28 from 4:306:30p. On the menu is 2 generous servings of fish along with a baked potato and coleslaw. Take-out is available and pre-sale tickets are available at the office, adults $8, children $4. Tickets can also be purchased at the door, but may be limited. Don’t forget! Also, we need to “reel” in some volunteers to help with this event. If you have never volunteered for the fish fry, this is an opportunity you want to “snag”. Bowling Banquet ~ Thank you The Olivedale Bowler’s would like to thank Chef Judy and her entire kitchen and serving crew who made it possible for this year’s bowling banquet to be a striking success! You all proved to be the “King Pin”!

Exercise and Diet Need to lose a few pounds? Studies have shown that diet or exercise alone is insufficient in achieving a substantial amount of weightloss. Overweight individuals who start a regular exercise program without also reducing their calorie intake lose little, if any pounds. Both exercise and portion control can potentially result in weight loss. However, metabolism and hormones change once a body gains large amounts of fat, and it becomes increasing difficult to drop those extra pounds. Contestants on the “Biggest Loser” who lose large amounts of weight have difficulty keeping it off due to hormonal changes which lowers their resting metabolic rate. The body reacts to regain that lost weight and maintain the status quo. The moral of the story? Keeping

weight at an optimal level will make life much easier in the long run. Maintaining a modest weight loss will reap numerous physiological benefits and will require less of a struggle than keeping off large amounts of weight. Metabolism Boosting Foods Kick start your metabolism by including the following foods into your daily diet: Egg Whites Milk Lean Meat Whole Grains Water Lentils Chili Peppers Coffee Green Tea Pool Sign-Up for Summer Session, (July 4-Aug 26) starts Monday, June 27. Please pick up registration slips at the front desk prior to sign up. Be sure all medical and waiver paperwork is up-to-date through August.

July is the time when we all scream for ice cream. The annual Olivedale member ice cream social is Wednesday, July 20 at 6:00p. Back by popular demand is the Olivedale Kitchen Band who will entertain with their own brand of singing and comedy. Come for fun and fellowship and, of course the ice cream. This event is sponsored by our proud community supporters, Halteman, Fett and Dyer Funeral Home. Join us for a night of cool treats, fun, music and an opportunity to socialize with other Olivedale members.

The Lancaster Festival is right around the corner with all the great musical acts ready to impress. Olivedale is lucky to be a part of this distinguished group of entertainers each year. Once again Olivedale will host a string quartet ensemble on Tuesday, July 26. This event is open to the public. As always, AlternaCare Home Health will provide a cool treat for all who come to join in the celebration of music and art.
