Dear Third-Grade Families, Third grade enjoyed warmer weather this week as we entered into the month of May. Along with the sunshine, the month of May holds several exciting events for GGS students. On Wednesday, students attended the first-grade science fair. On Thursday our school enjoyed the fourth-grade Unwaxed Museum presentations. I am pleased to say that third graders demonstrated superb audience etiquette while attending these events. Other important upcoming events for third-grade students include:  Beef Raffle tickets to help us go on our field trips for the coming years (Raffle is extended until May 13, 2013)  Gateway Fireman's Pancake Breakfast, May 18  Missouri Headwaters Field trip, May 28 For more events, forms, and information, please refer to the third-grade web page at gallatingatewayschool.com/staff, "Schedules and General Info". This week third graders completed study on time and temperature. Third graders are now investigating the strategies and processes of multi-digit multiplication. They are using their knowledge of place values to annex zeros when multiplying by multiples of 10, 100, and 1000. For example: 7 X 200 = 1,400  Students use knowledge of the factors 7 X 2 = 14 to solve Try practicing this multiplication skill with your child at home, on car rides, and over the weekend! For extra practice and study please refer to the third-grade web page at http://gallatingatewayschool.com/staff/main.php?staffID=5 This week's IXL challenge is: Multiplication: E.8-E.15 Families are reminded that picture packets were due back to school this week. If you have not yet returned your student's photos, please make selections and return order forms and checks as soon as possible. If you do not wish to keep any of your student's photos, simply return the photo package to me or the main office immediately. Please make all checks payable to Lifetouch School Portraits. Third graders received May Reading Logs this week. Congratulations to all families who dedicated time to reading with third graders in April. This is our last month for reading logs; let's make May count! Third graders are expected to read and log with family members daily on their May Reading Logs. Thank you for making reading a priority in your home! As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at [email protected]. Also, be sure to visit the third-grade website for updates, extra practice, and homework information! Enjoy the weekend! -Ms. Hudson
