Newsletter Friday March 4th 2016

Dear Parents, Carers, Governors and Friends, We have had another very exciting week at Raglan. Below is a flavour of what has been going on, please also look on the Website and Twitter for further details. Thank you to the parents who were able to attend the Parent Forum meeting on Wednesday . The focus for this term’s meeting was Developing the Vision for Raglan. I shared with parents the work that staff and governors had already done towards this and then parents were asked to talk in groups about what they would see as being Raglan School Values and the qualities they would like to see in a ‘Raglan’ child. We will also be talking to the children about what is special about Raglan and how they would like to see Raglan in the future. We will then take into account the views of everyone to agree a forward thinking vision for Raglan which is understood and shared by the whole community.

Enjoy your weekend, Kath Margetts and Staff

Fantastic Learning at Raglan Year 3 are reading the book ‘Mouse, Bird, Snake, Wolf’. In the story, the children imagined they were an animal and then created it out of sticks and other natural materials. This really got them thinking about the characters within the book and also linked to Science as they had to think about the materials they were using.

A lion made out of sticks and the children working together to create an animal.

World book day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it is a celebration of reading. Thank you to all the parents for your support in making this such a successful day. Throughout the week, we focussed on different authors and favourite books in class and in assemblies. It was lovely that so many children linked their character costumes with books they had read and enjoyed.

The winners of the KS1 and KS2 best costume were Thomas Townsend for his three Headed Dog from the Harry Potter series and Amber Zafar for her Elmer the Patchwork Elephant costume. Well done. I hope your child brought home their £1 book voucher. These are redeemable in local bookshops and can be used to buy one of ten exclusive books; alternatively, you can put the voucher towards the cost of a book of your choice. Happy Reading!

There were over 100 entries in total. The 3 judges were very impressed with the quality of photographs in every age group and it was a difficult job selecting the winners. The Y3/4 category was particularly difficult to judge. Congratulations to everyone who placed an entry and a big Thank You to the FOR for organising the event, particularly Gemma Himsworth and Annabel O’Docherty who gave up a great amount of time to organise the competition and exhibition. There is a PowerPoint presentation, that Mrs Burgess created and shared with the children at morning assembly, with all the winning photographs and this will be available on the website for you to view!
