Newsletter Friday May 13th 2016

Dear Parents, Carers, Governors and Friends, Yesterday was the last day of the Key Stage Two Statutory Assessment Tests (SATs). The children in Year 6 enjoyed an early morning breakfast each day before focussing on their tests. They all worked extremely hard and we are very proud of them. All seems to have gone well and we still have 60 smiling faces today! They are all now looking forward to their residential trip to the Isle of Wight, which takes place week of May 23rd. Children in Year 2 will be completing Key Stage One Assessments over the next two weeks, they have also worked very hard preparing for these assessments and I am sure they will do their very best. You may have noticed changes in the garden areas. A team of volunteers worked extremely hard last Saturday in the scorching heat to improve the KS2 garden area and start work on the garden area in KS1 to enable us to use it to deliver the Forest School curriculum. The children in KS2 are really enjoying being able to use this area once more. May I remind you that this area is only to be used under the supervision of school staff and I ask you, for the safety of the children that you do not let your children play in it after school. I hope you have seen the newsletter from the FOR – the summer fayre is fast approaching and they need your help. Any support you are able to give will be very much appreciated. Good luck to everyone taking part in the FOR quiz tonight, as well as being an enjoyable evening, it will raise additional funds for the school. Have an enjoyable weekend, Kath Margetts and all the staff team.

1MR Family Assembly “Have you got room on the broom for me?” Kath Margetts and Staff 1MR dazzled the other children, staff and their parents with an excellent retelling of ‘Room on the Broom’ by Julia Donaldson. The children showed off their learning from the Book Festival week. They had made their own brooms, written some excellent stories and created different characters. Thank you 1MR, you are all looking so grown up!

Raglan welcomes Sarah Lean To continue to promote a love of reading, after our Book Festival, we invited in a new author to share her lovely books with the children. All of KS1, Years 3 and 4 and the LLC and ULC enjoyed their session with Sarah Lean. Many children purchased signed copies of her new book ‘Tiger Days’ and ‘The Secret Cat’. For those who forgot to bring in their money, Waterstones Bromley are holding onto 30 signed copies for Raglan pupils, so please do pop in and see the staff in the shop.

Time Off in Term Time May I remind you that I am only able to authorise time off in term time for exceptional circumstances. Requests must be made 4 weeks in advance on our ‘Request for Absence’ form, which is available in the office or from the Website.

Term Dates for 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 Please visit the school website for the school term dates. The 2016/2017 staff training dates have now been set.

Recycling at Raglan Remember to search your home for old electrical items and bring them to the recycling bank which is in KS1 playground for the next 2 weeks. By recycling your waste electricals, you can help our school win £500. We can collect old and/or broken: Electrical kettles, microwaves, food processors, toasters, coffee machines, deep fat fryers, electrical irons, vacuum cleaners, hair dryers, video recorders, televisions, electrical lawnmowers etc.

A leaflet is available at the school office main entrance or have a look at the posters around school.
