Newsletter Friday March 11th 2016

Dear Parents, Carers, Governors and Friends, This has been another very productive week at Raglan. In order to prepare the children in Year 2 and Year 6 for their end of year assessments, they have been taking practice tests this week. Every child tried their very best and we are very proud of them. Next week is the last full week before the Easter break. Friday will be a particularly busy day with a sponsored run for Sport Relief, followed by the Easter Disco! Thank you to all the parents who are able to spend some time in school supporting the children in all sorts of ways – if you are able to commit to a regular time in school, please do let us know – you’re help is really appreciated. Hope to see lots of you at the Crystal Palace Run tomorrow and also at the Scholastic Book Fair next week (details sent separately). Enjoy your weekend, Kath Margetts and Staff

Year 4 Horton Kirby Educational Visit Year 4 went to Horton Kirby as part of their Geography learning, they talked about the water cycle and then investigated the depth of the water, how fast it flowed and the size of the rocks across the riverbed. Amazing learning and great fun was had by all!

Year 6 Natural History Educational Visit As part of their learning about evolution, Year 6 recently took part in two workshops at the Natural History Museum. The children became palaeontologists for the morning, learning how to excavate and identify dinosaur fossils. The children then discovered how fossils from different periods can tell us how species adapt and evolve over time.

Walk on Wednesday This scheme aims to reduce traffic congestion at peak times and help improve the health and fitness of pupils within Bromley. WoW encourages children and their parents not to use their cars for one day of the week as part of their school's travel plan. We encourage children to walk once a week - or more. Where the child lives too far from the school to walk the whole way, we would encourage pupils to park a distance away from the school and stride the rest of the way. Every year the scheme chooses a theme for the badges, this year the badges are all to do with Nature. Every month the children can collect a badge if they have walked to school at least one day. This month the badge is… a Badger! The children that walk with Mr Rob are able to collect their badges early but all children who walk to school can ask their class teacher for a badge. Mr Rob is in Whitehall Rec every Wednesday morning at 8.30.
