-Dear Parents, Carers, Governors and Friends, Another busy week at Raglan. Below are photos of some of the exciting learning that has been taking place this week. There are more photos on our website and on Twitter – do please take a look. Both our boys’ and girls’ football teams took part in tournament competitions this week. The girls played in the Palace for Life Foundation Tournament at Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham and the boys played at Bromley Football Ground – both teams clearly enjoyed the experience and continue to grow and develop. Well done to everyone involved.

Well done to 1H for their fantastic family assembly today based on their topic of Celebrations. They acted out the story of The Gun Powder Plot, shared fantastic writing, which included examples of alliteration, showed their brilliant firework pictures and entertained us with their fire work songs – so much learning already this half term. Thank you to everyone who donated food to our Harvest Assembly. The food we collected went to the Bromley Food Bank and today we received a certificate of thanks from them for the 373.8Kgs of food that we donated – an amazing contribution!! It was great to see so many of our Year 1 Parents at the Reading meetings yesterday. I hope you found them useful. Our aim is that all children will be confident readers with a love of books and by working in partnership with you I am sure we will achieve this. Last term, we were successful in our bid to the Woodland Trust for trees to improve our Forest School Garden Area – the trees arrived this week and we are looking forward to planting them and watching them grow. We would love to be able to extend our Forest School learning to all of KS1, but need additional parental help to be able to do this. If you are able to commit to a regular morning or afternoon in school and love learning outdoors we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch with the office. Next week, we are holding our Parent Consultation meetings - the online booking system is now closed, but if you have not yet made an appointment please speak to your child’s class teacher who will be able to make an appointment for you. The online system has vastly improved the booking process, however there were a few parents who were unable to access the system due to our database having a slightly different version of their name - I apologise if this impacted on you and thank you for your patience. New data sheets will be sent home soon and we ask that you check the entry of your details very carefully. We will then check them again when we enter them into our system. The Scholastic Book Fair will be open at both Parent Consultation evenings, please do take a look. The school receives commission on all sales and always uses the money raised to purchase new books for the school. Thank you to all of the children who entered our ‘Splendid Spoon Competition,’ decorating a spoon as their favourite book character.

They are all incredible and really imaginative. The spoons are currently on display in the Link Corridor, please take a look during Parent Consultation evenings – they will then be moving to the library and will be the focus of a reading display. The spoons will be judged next week and the winners included in next week’s newsletter.

There is still time to enter the ‘Design a Welly Competition’ organised by our Junior Travel Ambassadors – details were sent out earlier this week. We are continuing with our plans to replace our Computing room with a state of the art Multimedia Suite, generously funded by the FOR. At a meeting this week, we looked at the learning opportunities we wanted to create for the children, such as produce short films, teach more complex programming, create animations and make audio recordings and from that designed the different areas within the room. Mr Farmer is leading on this project and we are all very excited to watch it take shape. On Thursday morning, we are holding the first of our two open mornings for prospective Reception pupils, which are always very popular events. As usual our Year 6 pupils will conduct the tours of the school, a role that they carry out very professionally and with great pride. This year, as a safety measure we will be asking visitors to leave any large bags in the hall when they tour the school. Next week is Anti Bullying Week. The theme this year is ‘All Different. All Equal’. The theme was chosen in response to 600 young people completing a questionnaire. The aim is to help children and young people celebrate what makes them, and others, unique and help them understand why it’s important that every child feels included in school and able to be themselves without fear of bullying. We will be talking about this in assemblies and in class. Please remember we have a Parent Forum meeting taking place at 6.30pm on Monday 27th November. As you are probably aware, funding for schools is becoming increasingly tight and it is difficult, particularly in Bromley to be able to achieve everything we want to achieve for the children as a ’Stand Alone’ School. We have therefore been exploring the possibility of joining CSAT Multi Academy Trust and have invited Andrea Carter, the CEO of the Trust, to come and talk about the opportunities that working together will bring. Finally, Sue Bradshaw, our Nursery Lead is having an operation on her foot next week and will be absent from school as she recovers for between 4 and 6 weeks. I am sure you will join with all the staff to wish her well. I hope to see lots of our Year 5 and 6 children and their families at the Cross Country event at Crystal Palace Park tomorrow. It is always a great event with a fantastic atmosphere. Wishing all our families a lovely weekend, From Kath Margetts and staff.

Exciting Learning at Raglan

For their IPC topic entry point, Year 5 had to recreate famous Ancient Roman and Greek architecture out of different construction materials. They had to use their IPC personal learning goals in order to work together as a team. They completed the task well and had fun! Reception children have been celebrating Diwali, The Hindu Festival of Lights.

The children dressed up in sarees, had a party preparing Indian food and making decorations.

Exciting Learning at Raglan

The children made musical instruments and danced to Indian music. We looked at rangoli patterns and made our own repeated patterns in maths.

Forest School The children enjoyed Forest School and explored in amongst the leaves, finding green leaves amongst the brown leaves. Mrs Fennel is demonstrating how to hold the sticks safely, pointing them to the ground.

CSI in Year 3! In Year 3, the children had to find out who had eaten the Jelly Babies by testing and analysing different soil given to them to find out the soil types. They used all of their scientific skills splendidly to catch the culprit! It was Miss Wood. She did replace the Jelly Babies and all was forgiven!

The Raglan Christmas Grotto and Fair Friday 8th and Saturday 9th December Letters were sent out this week about the Grotto and Christmas Fair. Please be reminded that the deadline for Grotto booking forms is 1st December. If you haven't got a printer then please write all the relevant information on a piece of paper.
