Hamilton requests HUB financial boost from province The Mayor of North Battleford has asked the Government of Saskatchewan to consider allocating funds toward HUB – a crime prevention initiative involving various local agencies including the City, school divisions, RCMP, social services, and the Prairie North Health Region. “We are urging the province to provide funding for full-time staff on HUB,” said Mayor Ian Hamilton. “The committee consists of people from various agencies who, in addition to their regular daily duties, work to help at risk individuals and families. HUB has now developed to the point of needing at least one full-time staff member.” Hamilton made the request during a visit from the Honourable Christine Tell, Minister Responsible for Corrections and Policing. Tell was in the City to officially recognize the North Battleford HUB, but stopped short of promising any financial assistance. “We would encourage the committee to put a business case together and explain their needs,” said Tell. Hamilton feels encouraged by Tell’s comments and hopes the local HUB committee will put a case together to ensure the organization is effectively maintained. The North Battleford HUB meets twice a week. The partnering agencies work together to prevent at risk individuals and families from falling victim to crime. “We are asking Minister Tell to take our request back to the Legislature. In the meantime, the North Battleford HUB will continue to be just as mobilized and dedicated as it was from day one, eight months ago.” For more information: Ian Hamilton, Mayor, 306-445-1728 Jim Toye, City Manager/HUB Chair, 306-445-1727 Mike Halstead, Marketing & Communications Coordinator, 306-445-1710
