NBFES urges caution as river rises The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority (SWA) anticipates flows on the North Saskatchewan River through North Battleford will rise over the weekend. There has been significant rainfall in the North Saskatchewan River Basin upstream of Edmonton. With the expected high flow, North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services (NBFES) Deputy Chief, Brian Wilson, is once again advising residents to stay out of the water and off the river shore. “The level is expected to rise by roughly a meter,” said Wilson. “The flow is faster than normal so if someone were to slip and fall into the river, they could be carried downstream quite quickly.” NBFES urges people to always exercise caution in and near waterways, particularly waterways that have higher than normal water levels. Wilson points out the increased flows can be interesting to watch, but can be extremely dangerous. The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority is monitoring flow conditions and will issue updates as warranted. For the most recent information about flows and water levels, refer to the Advisories section on the homepage of www.swa.ca.
