For Immediate Release June 13th, 2012

Pet Owners Must be Responsible City of North Battleford Special Constables have been busy dealing with dog attack incidents in recent weeks – all of which could have been prevented with responsible pet ownership. June 2nd, 2012: an unlicensed dog broke through a fence and bit an 8 year old girl. The girl sustained two bite injuries. The dog had to be euthanized and negatively tested for rabies. June 4th, 2012: a dog escaped from its leash and attacked another dog. One of the pet owners was sustained a bite injury during the altercation. June 7th, 2012: a large dog attacked a smaller dog – both were at large at the time. The owner of the large dog is now paying the vet bills for injuries inflicted on the smaller dog. June 8th, 2012: a large dog attached a smaller dog. The owner of the larger dog is paying for the vet bill. North Battleford Special Constables stress that all pet owners must ensure their pets are licensed, restrained, and never at large. “Pet owners have a responsibility and will be held accountable for any altercations or mischief involving their pets,” said Senior Special Constable, Ross MacAngus. “They run the risk of having their pets deemed a dangerous animal, no matter what size the animal is. This could result in their animal being euthanized or the owner could face hefty fines and penalties for attacks on human beings or other domestic animals.” For more information: Ross MacAngus, Special Constable, 445-1775; Pat MacIsaac, NBFES Chief, 445-1779; Mike Halstead, Marketing & Communications Coordinator, 445-1710
