The “Katsudou” activity book is aimed at increasing communication skills, responding to the needs of students who want to become able to converse in Japanese as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, with comprehension of characters, vocabulary, grammar and sentence patterns as its goal, the “Rikai” book responds to the needs of students who want to systematically study the structure of Japanese as a language. Features numerous full-colour photos and illustrations. Lists of vocabulary and expressions, composition worksheets and audio materials can all be downloaded from the “teaching materials library”.

松柏社 本書の副題は、 「句読点の落とし物/日本語の落とし物」となっています。 国語教科書、算数・数学教科書、新聞の句読点（テンとマル）の使い方を、英 語の句読点（カンマとピリオド）と比較しながら分析します。句読点は文構造 を明示するための大切な記号で、論理を明らかにすることが第一義なのに、現 在の日本語の句読点の使い方では、論理よりも美意識が支配的であると著者は 主張しています。 This book’s subtitle is: “the lost property of punctuation marks/the lost property of Japanese language.” It analyses the usages of punctuation (ten and maru) in Japanese textbooks, arithmetic and mathematics textbooks, and newspapers, while comparing them with English punctuation (commas and full stops). Punctuation marks are important symbols for specifying a sentence’s construction and making one’s logic clear, but as the author emphasises, their usage in contemporary Japanese relies more on aesthetics than logic.

The subjects are Japanese (Essay writing, Listening Comprehension with Text, Reading Comprehension and Listening), Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology), Japan and the World, and Mathematics (Basic Course and Advanced Course). Kaizoku to yobareta otoko is a non-fiction novel based on the life of Idemitsu Sazou, the founder of Idemitsu Kousan Co. Ltd. It relates how a non-conformist manager leads the Kunioka Ironworks business to maturity, and how the company manages a robust resurgence after Japan’s defeat in WWII. Winner of the 2013 Honya Taishou Prize.
A Tale For The Time Being Ruth Ozeki
白水 日系のアメリカ人（現在はカナダ国籍）である著者は、日本で学び、教えていた経験もあ り、日本への愛情がベースにあることが全体から感じられる本です。日本の閉塞感と残酷 な側面、そしてその残酷さに抗う良識と美徳を描いた傑作です。いじめ、海外子女、異文 化、戦争、特攻隊、女性解放運動家、仏教、秋葉原カルチャー、過去、現在、量子力 学など多彩なテーマを扱っています。 タイトルの Time Being は、道元の時間論を示したものであり、仏教徒の著者らしい世界観 と時間論が本書の重要なテーマになっています。英語の本ですが、日本語で書かれた文 章が沢山出てきます。巻末には禅、量子力学そして日本語の解説が付いています。 2013 年ブッカー賞の最終候補作品。 The Japanese-American (currently Canadian) author draws on her love for Japan, and her experience of teaching there, as the basis for this book. This masterpiece describes Japan’s closed-off and cruel side, as well as the virtues that counterbalance this cruelty. It takes on various themes including bullying, Japanese children returning from abroad, other cultures, war, kamikaze units, feminist activists, Buddhism, Akihabara (geek) culture, the past, the present and quantum mechanics. The “Time Being” of the title refers to the 13th century Zen monk Dougen’s theory of time, a worldview which forms one of the book’s major themes. Written in English, but with plenty of sentences in Japanese. Features appendix with explanations of Zen, quantum mechanics and Japanese language. 2013 Booker Prize shortlisted.
