Script: Scene opens as Corky and Stanley enter the puppet stage. As soon as they are visible, they begin speaking. Corky:

No way, Stanley! There is no way your arms are longer than mine!

Stanley:

Should we get out the tape measure? I just happen to have my Dad’s arms, you know.

Corky:

That wasn’t very nice of you to take your Dad’s arms! Poor guy!

Stanley:

You know what I mean! We Turners are known for our long arms!

Corky:

I think you’re dreamin’! If you think your arms are longer than mine, then you must be dreamin’!

Stanley:

Dreamin’? You say I, Stanley the Stalwart, am dreamin’?

Corky:

When I walk by someone they automatically start singing, (sings), ‘Do your arms hang low, do they wobble to and fro’ . . .

Stanley, interrupting: Corky:

And I am the one dreamin’?

All I’m saying is that there is no way in the world that you have longer arms than me. Even if by some strange chance that your arms may be slightly longer than mine, which, may I add, I doubt very much, there is no way in the world that you can run faster than me!

Stanley, laughing: You can’t be serious! Running? Puhleaaaase! They don’t call me Speedy Stanley for nothing!

Corky:

Speedy Stanley? I think what they call you is Sleepy Stanley! Would I be right in reminding you of the time you jumped up right in the middle of Mrs. Barken’s math class and started singing I’m A Little Tea Pot!

Stanley:

So what? I’m a creative dreamer!

Corky:

Anyway, fact is when it comes to running, I am the real speedster!

Stanley:

Maybe you are a little faster when it comes to running, but I can certainly do my homework a lot quicker than you!

Corky:

Oh really?

Stanley:

Really!

Corky:

Well if that’s true, then why is it that I’m still waiting for you to finish my science homework from last month?

Stanley:

You’ll be waiting a lot longer, Corky! See, look deep in my eyes . . .

Corky, looks in Stanley’s face:

Is that fried egg or tartar sauce on your lip?

Stanley, screaming: There is nothing on my lip! What I am trying to tell you, is your homework is supposed to be done by . . . .who? Corky:

Well, was hoping it would be done by you, but you seem to be awful slow about it, don’t mind me saying.

Corky:

You shall do your own homework. OK? Now then, back to the arm thing. This is getting ridiculous! We need someone to settle this once and for all!

Stanley:

Finally something we agree on!

Corky:

Where is Robbie? Robbie will tell us which one of us is the overall winner of everything.

Stanley:

Robbie’s good at that! (Calling out.) Robbie! Robbie, where are you?

Corky:

Robbie!

Robbie enters the puppet stage. Robbie:

Hi, guys! You called?

Stanley:

Yes, we sure did! We have something very important to ask you.

Corky:

Now, think hard, Robbie! Cause this is the most important question you will ever be asked!

Robbie:

Wow! This sounds really serious! Okay, I will think really hard!

Robbie makes the sound of grunting and groaning. Stanley and Corky look at each other, wondering what Robbie is doing. Stanley:

You okay over there, Robbie?

Corky:

Uh, Robbie, what are you doing?

Robbie:

I’m thinking really hard! Isn’t that what you told me to do?

Stanley:

Yeah, but, can you think a little quieter?

Corky:

Yeah, man, you’re kinda creepin’ me out!

Robbie:

Okay, I’ll try to think quieter. But, I can’t guarantee that it’ll work as good!

Corky, shaking his head: Stanley:

Whatever man.

Anyway, Robbie, we need you to answer this question for us.

All three puppets lean in close to each other and get very serious. Robbie:

I am ready for this, I am up to the task, I am prepared for the struggle, I am here for the .. . .

Stanley:

Enough already! Just answer the question!

Robbie:

Sorry, not sure I can answer the question guys, sorry ‘bout that.

Stanley:

And just how would you know that you can’t answer the question? We haven’t even asked the dumb question yet!

Robbie:

See, that’s why I can’t answer the question . . . no one has asked the question. Sorry, see ya laters guys!

Robbie starts to leave Corky:

Would you get yourself back here? Now, then, who has longer arms, me or Stubs over there?

Stanley, erupting:

No fair! You rigged the question! No fair!

Corky:

Oh, relax! Robbie knows the right answer anyway, don’t you, Rob ol’ buddy ol’ pal!

Robbie:

You want to know who has the longer arms?

Stanley:

Yes! You see we really need to know what Joe-off-the-street would say. No pressure, now Robbie – take your time.

Corky:

Whadda ya say, Rob?

Robbie:

Well, I guess if I had to choose . . .

Corky and Stanley, in unison:

Yeah?

Robbie:

The person with the longest arms would be . . . ME!

Corky:

What? What are you talking about?

Stanley:

Maybe you didn’t understand, Robbie. You see the competition was between me and Corky. We are the ones against each other.

Robbie:

Against each other? But I thought you guys were pals!

Corky:

Well, we are pals. But sometimes we just need to know who is the winner of what!

Stanley:

Yeah! Who is better!

Robbie:

Does it really matter?

Corky:

Well of course it matters! You have to know where you stand!

Robbie:

Where you stand? You mean you don’t know where you stand? How awful!

Stanley:

What do you mean, awful?

Robbie:

I mean, that’s awful that you don’t know where you are at in the race!

Corky:

That is why we need to know who is faster then we know who would win the race!

Robbie:

No, no, no! I don’t think you understand what race I’m talking about! You see we are all in a race together right now!

Stanley:

What? I don’t even have my Speedo-Kaddeedo fast racing shoes on!

Robbie:

No, Stanley! Not that kind of race! We are all in a race to the great finish! It is our job to keep up the race and keep passing the baton to the next racers. It’s up to them then to carry the baton to the next person.

Corky:

Okay, Robbie, I’m thinking that in this here race I just might have missed the starter pistol, ‘cause I have no idea what you are talking about!

Stanley:

Same. In a word I have no idea what ever you are talking about!

Corky:

Technically that is way more than one word, but I am with ya for sure!

Robbie:

Listen up, guys. All of us consider ourselves Christians, that means if we’ve asked Jesus to live in our heart, we are all in a race together. It’s a different kind of race, though. In this race, you are all working TOGETHER to finish. When we asked Jesus into our hearts, that was sort of like being given the baton to carry. Now you are doing your part of the race. Every Christian has to do their part and carry the baton and run together with the other Christians. Think about when you are running a race at AWANA, you may trip and fall and even drop the baton. But I you have your friends around you, they will help you up and keep you going! Same thing in the great race that we are all in! Sometimes we get into trouble or do something bad that we think we can’t get out of, but that’s when one of our Christian friends help us out and encourage us to keep going!

Corky:

It’s great having Christian friends!

Robbie:

It sure is, Robbie! But do you know who else will always help us out?

Stanley, excited: Oh, oh! I know this one! Jesus! Jesus is always with us and He will always help us out of tough situations! Robbie:

Awesome answer, Stanley! Yes, when you ask Jesus into your heart, He has promised that He will always be with us.

Corky:

Okay, Okay, I understand now. We are all already in a big race, right?

Robbie:

That’s right! And that’s the most important race of all!

Stanley:

Just one more question, Robbie.

Robbie:

Sure, Stanley! I’d be happy to answer any question you may have!

Stanley:

Thanks. My question is, you DO think that my arms are longer than Corkys’, right?

Robbie, hanging his head: Corky:

Oh, Stanley. Let’s go talk some more over ice cream.

Race you there!

All puppets exit stage.
