1. THE MEN’S 100M SPRINT WORLD RECORD If there is any individual sport that personifies masculine sporting excellence then it is hard to argue against it being the men’s 100m sprint. If you have had the liberty of attending the Olympics whether in Athens, Atlanta, London, Beijing, Sydney or any of the other major world capitals, the 100m sprint is seen as the flagship and pinnacle of Olympics track and field. Not only at the Olympic games, but also at the other periodic events such as the World Championships, Commonwealth Games, Diamond League events and other regional events where athletes come together to compete. Since records began during the early part of the 1900s, the 100m sprint world record time has been broken 19 times and in the space of just under one hundred years, the time has been reduced by just over 1 second. The progression of world records can be seen below starting with the first 100m world record being broken in 1912 and with the latest 100m world record being set in 2009 in Berlin by the Jamaican Usain Bolt with an unbelievable world record time of 9.58. •

A 1 second reduction in just under 100 years may not sound that much in terms of numerical value, but given the speed at which sprinters run, a phenomenal amount of ground can be covered within a 1 second time period. Also to give some context to the progression of the event over the century, in the Men’s 100m final at the 2012 London Olympics, the person who came fourth running for the United States, Tyson Gay, clocked 9.80 seconds, yet such a time would have won the gold medal and set a world record before 1996 for an Olympic final event. When Usain Bolt set the latest world record of 9.58 second in Berlin 2009 it was hailed as “supernatural” and “unbelievable” because he was so frighteningly dominant against world class competition. Other men competing who were believed to pose a serious and justifiable challenge, were simply blown away despite themselves running times that were seasons best and personal best. Seeing this giant of a man from the island of Jamaica whose stride lengths simply ate up the ground whilst others burst gut and sweat to remain close was simply astonishing. Since the domination of the sprints by Usain Bolt and his Jamaican compatriot and training partner, Yohan Blake, there are already a number of theories regarding the amazing achievements of the Jamaicans. In July 2012, an interesting article appeared in the British newspaper, the Mail Online which encapsulated the debate regarding the dominance of the sprints by the Caribbean islands.1 Could the world-beating sprinting prowess of Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt really be down to his West African ancestors’ horrific ordeals at the hands of British slave traders and plantation owners? Jamaican athletes have certainly made a specialty of dominating sprint races in recent years. At the Beijing Olympics in 2008, they won the men and women’s 100m finals, the men and women’s 200m finals — and the men won the 4 x 100m relay. Quite something for an island with a population smaller than Wales. That supremacy is likely to be reinforced at the London Olympics, thanks perhaps to a new pretender, Yohan Blake, who trounced Bolt, his training partner, in the 200m final at the Jamaican Olympic trials in Kingston last week. Bolt, meanwhile, still holds the world 100m sprint record, with a breathtaking time of 9.58 seconds. Clearly, such dominance cannot be gained without gruelling training regimes, specialised diets and expert coaching. But U.S. sprinter Michael Johnson, who is of West African descent, now believes that athletes like him have another weapon in their armoury: a unique genetic inheritance. In a TV documentary, Johnson argues that descendants of slaves from West Africa (all Afro-Caribbean people owe their presence in the Caribbean to slavery dating from the 16th century) have a ‘superior athletic gene’. And it’s this that will put black Caribbean sprinters on the podium top spots at the London Games. Such talk is controversial, alarmingly redolent as it is of the racial-superiority theories propounded by Nazi scientists in the Thirties and used to justify the genocide of millions of people deemed ‘genetically inferior’. Johnson, however, is unabashed: ‘It is a taboo subject in the States, but it is what it is,’ he says. ‘Why shouldn’t we discuss it?’ Usain Bolt holds similar beliefs. The sprinter was born in Trelawny Parish, a Jamaican area that was formerly the site of several slave plantations. Asked about his record-breaking 100m performance in 2009, he said: ‘It’s a background from slavery. The guys back in the day were so strong from physical work . . . the genes are really strong.’ The controversial theory supporting these claims goes back to 2003, when Australian scientists discovered that a gene called ACTN3 has variants which may give performance advantage to the muscles of elite athletes. In effect, it can give sprinters a boost because it gives extra power to muscle cells that are required for fast, forceful actions. Studies show that this ‘sprint’ version of the ACTN3 gene is more common in Jamaicans, for example, and others of West African descent than in people of European ancestry. The theory speculates that this gene has been concentrated in these athletes because their ancestors journeyed from captivity in West Africa to slavery in the Caribbean under brutal conditions.

Only the toughest survived. During one such voyage in 1732, more than 95 per cent of slaves perished — 170 were herded on to the ship and only six got off alive. Cruelty on board those ships could compound the effects of disease, insanitary conditions and overcrowding. One notorious case involved the British-owned slave-ship Zong, which lost its bearings while bound for Jamaica in 1782. After three months, 60 of the 440 slaves on board had already died. Captain Luke Collingwood’s human cargo was perishing and his hopes of profit were being replaced by fears of bankruptcy. So he decided to pull an insurance scam, and ordered his crew to throw 132 of the weaker slaves overboard to drown. He told insurers that he had been forced to do it because of dwindling water supplies. The captain would have succeeded, but for the whistleblowing conscience of the chief mate, James Kelsal, who revealed that there were still 420 gallons of water on board when they had docked at Black River Port in Jamaica a month later. The ship’s owners were taken to court in London — for insurance fraud rather than murder. No officers or crew were charged over the deliberate killings. Clearly, those few slaves who survived the crossings were made of extremely tough stuff. For them to survive long enough subsequently to have children involved them being resilient enough to withstand life in slavery on plantations. Towards the end of the 1700s, another factor came into play: selective breeding. In this period, the price of imported slaves to Jamaica was rising rapidly, and there was increasing talk of abolishing the barbarous practice of slave-shipping. Plantation owners began to believe that their most economical answer was to raise their own slaves. They went about it with characteristic inhumanity, breeding the toughest slaves for strength and treating their charges as though they were breeding cattle. One Jamaican plantation inventory from 1790 listed 408 slaves by occupation, such as cooks, watchmen and field workers. But the largest group listed 62 women who were ‘kept for breeding’. These were called ‘breeding wenches’ or ‘belly women’. Where possible, parents were selected for their strength. Around the same time, a white Jamaican sugar plantation owner’s wife, A. C. Carmichael, wrote a pamphlet on breeding one’s own slaves. It recommended separating babies early from their mothers, so freeing the women for menial labour while their children were raised by women too old to work on the fields. The children were to be integrated into the workforce virtually as soon as they could walk — to do any light tasks around the plantation they were thought capable of performing. Such conditions would, understandably, work in favour of a physically stronger population. It has led Jamaican scientists to propound the theory that Caribbean sprinters are athletically special because those tough enough to survive these awful rigours must have had genes which made them unusually resilient. William Aiken, a Jamaican sports doctor, believes the fact that Jamaicans excel at sprinting is a legacy of being descended from the ‘fittest of the fit slaves’. But can it all come down to something as basic as a variation of one gene — ACTN3?

While many commentators are happy to suggest it does, one of the scientists involved in originally discovering this gene’s powers is far more sceptical. Daniel MacArthur, a researcher at the Institute for Neuromuscular Research at Sydney University, was part of the team that found how the ACTN3 gene helps stimulate the muscle cells which are needed for generating rapid, forceful contraction in activities such as sprinting. His studies show that the ‘sprint’ version of ACTN3 is, indeed, more common in Jamaicans — 98 per cent of black Jamaicans have at least one copy, compared with 82 per cent in individuals of European ancestry. Yet he believes it plays only a ‘pretty small’ role in Jamaican sprinters’ success. In the journal Genetic Future, he writes: ‘It is almost certainly true that Usain Bolt carries at least one “sprint” variant of the ACTN3 gene, but then so do I (along with around five billion other humans worldwide). But that doesn’t mean you’ll see me in the 100m final in London. Unfortunately for me, it takes a lot more than one lucky gene to create an Olympian.’ For success at the Olympic games, MacArthur believes there are going to be many other factors — cultural, social and economic — also at play. Indeed, Jamaican experts believe in this ‘combination’ theory of success. For example, Dr Errol Morrison, an endocrinologist and the president of Jamaica’s University of Technology, says that diet may play a crucial role — particularly the staples of salt fish, yams and bananas which are rich in protein, carbohydrate and vital sources of energy. Dr Morrison says Jamaican youngsters grow up on a diet that is so beneficial they might as well take a daily dose of steroids. And such nutrition may well boost any genetic advantage that Jamaican athletes are born with, he says. But there is surely something else at play, too — the national will to win. The short-term explanation for Jamaica’s success is that the country took the decision to pour its resources in recent years into getting better at its most winnable events. And in its case, these events are the sprints. The same has happened with Team GB concentrating on cycling, and its remarkable subsequent success with stars such as Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton. So while the ACTN3 gene may play some contributory role in the wider recipe for Jamaican success, would anyone seriously suggest there is a single British gene for riding bicycles quickly? Instead, we are only at the beginning of scientifically beginning to unravel the complex tapestry of factors which give Jamaican athletes the capability of beating the best of the rest of the world at sprinting. Some of these factors will undoubtedly be due to powerful elements in Jamaica’s modern culture, such as diet and a deep sporting passion — but also, somewhere in a wide variety of genes, there will be the bigger story of a cruel past.

2. SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY The report by the Mail Online is interesting because it addresses some of the key ingredients behind successful sprinting such as nutrition, passion for sport, investment in the development of training programs and resources and the ACTN3 gene. However what is interesting is that the article didn’t address what could be one of the most powerful ingredients yet to move sprinting to the realms of what would today seem impossible. Identifying the factors that influence high-level performance has become a subject of significant scientific interest not only in regards to Jamaican sprinters but sport worldwide. Commonly referred to as sports science the field of sports psychology is highly inter-disciplinary, drawing on cutting-edge research from diverse scientific areas, such as genetics, physiology, nutrition and psychology. At the genetic level, the body's responsiveness to training is influenced by the regulation of genes that affect oxygen uptake and the capacity for skeletal muscle adaptation. Psychology, by contrast, investigates stress-related factors and achievement motivated behavior in athletes independently of genetic effects. Finally, neuroscientists have recently started to investigate movement dynamics in sports and the brain's role in controlling muscle performance However it is Psychology which is of focus here and over the last two decades there has been a significant amount of attention given to psychological techniques to help give athletes a winning edge over competitors. Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is by far one of the most common techniques being employed within the sporting world to help athletes overcome mental barriers and make significant strides in their achievement. NLP is a term given to a psychological process by which a person puts themselves into an emotional state where they rehearse in their mind and visualize what they are trying to achieve. By conducting this exercise vividly, with clarity and energy the person triggers specific physiological changes which can cause the brain to believe the actual achievement has really happened. When the person is then in a real life situation the concept is that they will be able to achieve what they need to much easier because they have already rehearsed it many times over.
Many athletes at the top of their game have turned to psychologists and NLP coaches to develop a mental edge. For example, motivational expert Tony Robbins has worked with figures from the sporting world such as tennis legends Andre Agassi and Serena Williams, NBA Hall of Fame coach Pat Riley and The Ultimate Fighter winner, Diego Sanchez. Cybernetics," Maxwell Maltz lists golfing legend Jack Nicklaus and Olympic diver Greg Louganis as case studies for the benefits of sports psychology. Whilst Tony Robbins to some extent is credited with the birth of NLP with the launch of his publications “Unlimited Power” and “Awaken the Giant Within”, the actual science was developed by Richard Bandler and Dr. John Grinder in their effort to model communication strategies of effective therapists. 2 However despite the inroads made by sports psychologists in helping athletes to develop a winning edge, outstanding performances at any level in sport still seems to be limited to the chosen few. There are countless examples of athletes who employ NLP visualization and affirmation techniques as part of their daily routine yet still when it comes to performance, only achieve average results. This is why many sports have had such a battle eliminating sports enhancing drugs because some athletes believe that a competitive edge can only be achieved from a physiological perspective rather than the psychological alone. Many will remember the men’s 100m Olympic final in Seoul in 1988 where Ben Johnson broke the 100m world record in winning the gold medal, only the following day to be disqualified due to testing positive for anabolic steroids. Others have followed including high profile names such as Marion Jones, Tom Montgomery, Justin Gatlin and Dwayne Chambers. 3 The pressure to succeed and achieve, especially when Athletes funding depends on their performances, clearly creates an opportunity for vulnerable Athletes to fall to the temptations of individuals and organizations who secretly offer Athletes the pills and potions promised to fast track their success.
PSYCOLOGICAL BELIEF SYSTEMS Whilst we are focusing on sport, the concepts we talk about can be applied to any industry. For instance in the business and corporate world the desire to succeed and achieve is just as interesting. Over the last several decades there has been a significant rise in the production of personal development materials to cater for those aspiring to climb the corporate ladder. Nightingale Conant is probably the world’s largest producer of personal development and training material covering a range of categories including personal development, business strategy, wealth building, mind and body, spiritual growth and sales training. 4 Its no coincidence that many of the psychology gurus that are active in the sports world are also prominent as well in the business world since the philosophy of their science covers all areas of life. However one of the common areas of interest is that many of the gurus have a spiritual belief system which shares a very significant similarity to what is known as Pantheism. Pantheism is the belief that there is a god who is greater than the universe but without the fundamental belief structures that would be associated with religions like Christianity, Islam Judaism. Three of the most well known gurus, Anthony Robbins, Brian Tracy and Deepak Chopra have in their materials made statements which clearly underline their religious beliefs and ideas about the world. Anthony Robbins in his book “Unlimited Power” 25 gives an account of when he was aspiring to be successful and make massive changes to the direction is life was heading, he took decisive action to

change from being overweight. He said every day he would run for miles shouting in his mind “I am One with God, and God is everything.” In another quote he says he used to repeat the following affirmation, “God's wealth is circulating in my life. His wealth flows to me in avalanches of abundance. All my needs, desires 5 and goals are met instantaneously. For, I am One with God, and God is everything.”
Technically from a Christian perspective there may not seem anything wrong with such a statement at first glance since if we are in Christ we are in the Father as well. However such a statement clearly is coming from a completely different context as one digs into the motive behind such statements. Robbins quotes from a variety of religious sources, including the Bible, he also cites Buddhism, other religions and religious figures, and, on a number of occasions, American transcendentalist writers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Walt Whitman. Merely quoting such sources does not suggest explicit endorsement of everything they believed, but, when taken as a whole, the citation of non-Christian sources does not bode well for the exclusive claims of Christ and Christianity. For instance, when Robbins praises “A Course in Miracles” 26, a book that is overtly at odds with the Christian message, it’s difficult, if not impossible, to fit such citations into the framework of theism, much less Christian theism. Given the lack of emphasis on truth and the variety of citations from contradictory religious sources, Robbins appears to be a religious pluralist. This means that he is not concerned with the truth or falsity of any particular religion, but instead seems to view all religions as valid so long as they “empower” and “strengthen” the adherent. Robbins’s primary emphasis, however, comes across as sympathetic to Eastern religious ideas. Specific phrases and ideas are also reminiscent of “New Age” spirituality such as when he writes, “Your reality is the reality you create.” One of his Twitter posts quotes Taoist philosopher Lao-tzu: “There are many paths to enlightenment. Be sure to take one with a heart.” Ron Rhodes has written of Robbins: “In his books he approvingly cites Eastern and New Age types like Marianne Williamson, Bernie Siegel, Deepak Chopra, Andrew Weil, Confucius, Mahatma Gandhi, Emmet Fox, and A Course in Miracles. Other New Age indicators involve his use of Native American chants, and his idea that mystical secrets locked in the right side of the brain can be unleashed using his techniques.”

Robbins’s religious eclecticism is also, as Rhodes observes, “in keeping with his New Age leanings. On a number of occasions, he acknowledges many ‘great teachers’— including Jesus, Buddha, Muhammad, Confucius, and Lao-Tzu.”

Brian Tracy is another prominent, influential speaker and seminar leader, Tracy, promotes the use of the “superconscious mind” (i.e., the higher self), “to improve productivity, performance and output” in the corporate world. In one of his packages called “The Luck Factor” there is an instance when talking about affirmation where Tracy states that when you write your affirmations down on paper and read them out loud every day and put them under your pillow at night so that “Universal forces will be triggered which will bring about your affirmations to reality”

Again like Robbins, Tracy actively quotes from the Bible and other religious sources, specifically on the teachings of Jesus, Buddha, Gandhi and others. Deepak Chopra is by far the most overt in terms of his religious beliefs. Chopra is an Indian-born, American physician and writer who previously taught at the medical schools of Tufts University, Boston University and Harvard University. He became Chief of Staff at the New England Memorial Hospital (NEMH) in Massachusetts, before establishing a private practice. He has written more than 65 books with 19 New York Times bestsellers. His books have been translated into 35 languages and sold more than 20 million copies worldwide. Chopra has received many awards, including the Oceana Award (2009) the Cinequest Life of a Maverick Award (2010), Humanitarian Starlite Award (2010), and the GOI Peace Award (2010). He is thought by some to be "one of the preeminent leaders of the mind-body-spirit movement". Chopra has been even more avid in his promotion of New Age ideals. In his book “The Third Jesus” he states, "about the consciousness of Jesus which was in touch with the source of all creation. If you can aspire to be at one with that consciousness, then you too can be in touch with the source of all creation”

Chopra has also stated "When your truth is aligned with the Truth of universal consciousness, you are living your dharma...living a blissful existence. You are "surfing the wave of Truth" - letting it propel you into the next phase of your life while it delivers the thrill of the present moment."

This “Christ Consciousness” philosophy is not just as a concept of Chopra. Dr. John Jay Harper, executive director of the American Delphi Academy, Spokane, Washington, USA, and author of Tranceformers: Shamans of the 21st Century states, In summary, the truth is all creation is contained within the Mind-Body of God. There is nothing "outside" to God as God is the center and circumference of the cosmos at once—omnipresent. God is in constant contact with every atom and all life forms via the zero-point field and its DNA "messenger molecules" and this truth then establishes the bedrock for all science of soul wisdom teachings. In other words, to be a Christ means to possess Cosmic Consciousness and thereby be able to access the knowledge of heaven on earth. And as Alan F. Alford of Walsall,

England heartily declares: "Ancient sages believed that the future destiny of mankind lay in a return to the Source, i.e. to God and Heaven. The death of the body, they said, did not mark an end but rather a critical mid-point in the human existence. Those who had the secret knowledge could retrace the path to the Heavenly Source and enter the gates to the lost paradise." Now that is the deeper meaning to the Lord’s Prayer: "Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done on Earth as it is in Heaven!" A-men.”

Robbins, Tracy and Chopra are just three gurus that have been singled out but the personal development world is filled with many other such gurus championing a form of psychology which also comes with a spiritual undertone. In fact their teachings in some cases contain concepts that you will also find across some of the biggest Christian ministries.

CHRISTIANITY IN CRISIS Hank Hanegraaf, President of the Christian Research Institute (CRI) authored a book called in 1993 called “Christianity in Crisis” where he directly attacked the Christian ministries of Kenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn, Maurice Cerullo, Creflo Dollar and others whose “word of faith” ministries he said were conveying new age movement concepts coated with a cloak of Christianity. 9 In January 2009 Hanegraaf stated “One of the reasons that the Word of Faith movement has become so popular in Christian and secular-settings is that everyone wants to know the “secret.” Everyone wants to have the “magic bullet;” you know, the secret to health; the secret to wealth; the secret to successful relationships; the secret to making a fortune on Wall Street –– if that is even possible anymore –– the secret to maintaining your perfect weight. The list is endless. Thus, when Rhonda Byrne informed the world she had discovered “the Secret to life”–– a secret harnessed by “the greatest people in history: Plato, Shakespeare…Lincoln… Einstein”— the world stood up and took notice. Within weeks, The Secret topped bestseller lists and morphed into a cultural phenomenon.”

He also goes onto say “You ask, “What is the Secret?” Well, according to Rhonda Byrne it’s “the law of attraction.” Byrne continues, “The greatest teachers who have ever lived have told us that the law of attraction is the most powerful law in the Universe.” Byrne also adds, “You create your life through your thoughts.” Byrne also claims that “the Creative Process used in The Secret, which was taken from the New Testament in the Bible, is an easy guideline for you to create what you want in three simple steps. Ask, Believe, Receive.” Does this sound familiar? Kenneth Hagin had the exact same formula as the father of the Faith Movement. For Rhonda Byrne, the genie that causes the universe to give you whatever you want is the law of attraction; however, here’s where I want to turn a corner, for Joel Osteen –– who is communicating from a quasi-Christian pulpit –– it is the word of faith; that is our genie. Osteen is committed to the notion that faith is a force, that words are the containers of the force, and that through the force of faith, one can create their own reality. As he explains in his mega best seller, Your Best Life Now, “You have to begin speaking words of faith over your life. Your words have enormous creative power. The moment you speak something out, you give birth to it. This is a spiritual principle, and it works whether what you’re saying is good or bad, positive or negative.” While I want to make clear that Osteen and Byrne have noteworthy differences, they are united in the belief that the force of faith is so powerful that even God –– however you may define him –– is bound by its irrevocable reality. If occult sources, such as those referenced in The Secret, pose the greatest threat to the body of Christ from without, I contend that the deadly doctrines disseminated by these prosperity preachers pose the greatest threat to Christianity from within. To avert this crisis, a paradigm shift of major proportions is desperately needed––a shift from perceiving God as a means to an end, to recognition that He is the end.”

It’s a bit of a chicken and egg scenario because Christian ministries who use these metaphysical concepts such as visualization, affirmation, Christ consciousness and self actualization tend to defend themselves against Hanegraaf and others by claiming that it is non Christian gurus that are plagiarizing biblical principles and packaging it for the secular world whereas the secular gurus claim that their philosophy and concepts are built on truth and concepts that can be found across a multitude of world religions including Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism. called “Christianity in Crisis – The 21st Century” 28 where he states, “This is why I decided to launch a major new release; I’ve titled Christianity in Crisis - 21st Century. I’m convinced that if occult sources like The Secret pose the greatest threat from without, the deadliest doctrines disseminated now by a new crop of prosperity preachers pose the greatest threat to authentic Christianity from within. To avert this crisis we need a paradigm shift of major proportions. A shift from perceiving God as a means to an end to the recognition God is the end. While change must come, it’s not going to come easily. Those who are dispensing spiritual cyanide by the mega dose occupy powerful platforms within the evangelical Christian church. They control vast resources and they stand to lose multiplied millions of dollars if their exposed. No doubt what I will face this time around will make the original release of Christianity in Crisis pale by comparison but I’m absolutely convinced this new volume needs to be published.”

Whilst Psychology as a subject is fascinating because there is no greater study than that of the human mind and behavior, what can also be observed is that other philosophies and concepts which originate out of the New Age Movement can easily be masked through the cover of Psychology and presented as science to the secular world whether it be the business world or sports. Additionally the same philosophies and concepts which originate out of the New Age Movement can just as easily be masked through the cover of Christianity and presented to the Christian church. However balance needs to be applied. Are we saying that the materials of Anthony Robbins, Brian Tracy and Deepak Chopra should be avoided. No!. In fact Robbins and Tracy have produced some fantastic material which is of great benefit to any individual or corporation and throwing the baby out with the bath water can lead to the other side of the spectrum, a position of extreme ignorance. Clearly for someone to use an opposing argument that God wants us to be unsuccessful, poor, needy, anxious and have a lack of confidence is clearly again unbiblical. Whilst God wants us to put our trust in him there is also an element of confidence, belief and entrepreneurship he expects from us as the parable of the talents conveys in Matthew 25:14-30 and Luke 19:12-28. Note that the man who was given just one talent and hid it in the ground because of the fear of losing it should he try to invest and put it to work, did not actually lose the talent when the Master came back. Yet the Master’s perception of him was very damning. However the lesson here is that a sense of caution and discernment is to be applied so that one can identify when specific concepts being conveyed in the areas of psychology, NLP and Cybernetics are clearly moving one into the arms of new age movement ideology.

4. BODY SOUL AND SPIRIT - TRICHOTOMOUS The bible does reveal that the most powerful form of deception is that where truth is mixed with heresy. The reason that the teachings of those such as Deepak Chopra can be deceptive is because they also contain elements of truth. For instance Chopra heads the “mind-body-spirit” movement conveying his belief that man is not just a physical being but also a spiritual being. The bible also clearly defines man as a spirit being. By that, we mean a spiritual being housed in an earthly vessel. Some Christian researchers state that man is not a spirit being although he has a body, soul and spirit. However when God created Adam from the dust of the earth, Adam was like a waxwork in that he was simply just an immobile and lifeless form. However when God breathed into Adam his spirit the Bible declares that Adam became a fully aware and conscious being confirming that it is our spirit which makes alive and gives us consciousness. Genesis two focuses solely on the creation of Adam and the privileges and responsibilities that God gave him. Concerning his creation, the text elaborates and states that God formed Adam from the dust of the ground. However, that was not all that God did. The text says: “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul” (Genesis 2:7).
This verse demonstrates that Adam was made (physically, earthly) from the dust (he and we are carbonbased life forms). However, God also breathed into Adam a life energy that made Adam alive. Even though we operate in a physical dimension where we are visibly aware of the physical housing, our true self is our spirit being which is not tangible in this physical dimension. However when a person dies whilst the body becomes lifeless the spirit still has an existence which ties in with many of the outer body experiences we hear of today. Also in the Bible the Apostle Paul also mentioned about a man who left his body and went to heaven. “I knew a man in Christ, above fourteen years ago (whether in the body I cannot tell; or whether out of body I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such a one caught up to the third heaven. How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for man to utter.” II Corinthians 12:2,4
Over the centuries scholars of the Bible have debated whether or not man consists of two parts (dichotomous – “cut in two”) just body and soul/spirit or in three parts (trichotomous – “cut in three”), body, soul and spirit. A. H. Strong in his book, Systematic Theology, articulates the essence of the essential elements of human nature as a dichotomous. “Man has a twofold nature,—on the one hand material, on the other hand immaterial. He consists of body, and of spirit, or soul. […]Man is as conscious that his immaterial part is a unity, as that his body is a unity. He knows two, and only two, parts of his being—body and soul.” 12
Strong notes that I Thessalonians 5:23 (“may your whole spirit and soul and body”), which is the principle passage relied upon as supporting the trichotomous view, may be better explained in that “soul and spirit are not two distinct substances or parts, but that they designate the immaterial principle from different points of view.” After all, Strong infers there are many verses where soul and spirit are used interchangeably. If we are to divide the immaterial make up of man into soul and spirit, then what are we to do with the heart, mind and conscience? They are also immaterial parts of man that Scripture repeatedly makes reference to. Lastly, there are verses that speak of only two parts of a man, as though it constitutes the whole of his being. The following list demonstrates how soul and spirit are used interchangeably. •
his spirit was troubled, (Genesis 41:8)

my soul is cast down within me, (Psalm 42:6)

now is my soul troubled, (John 12:27)

he was troubled in the spirit, (John 13:21)

However the opposing trichotomous view which believes that soul and spirit are distinct has a different level of interpretation based on the following. According to the revelation of the Bible and the experience of believers, the human spirit can be said to have three main functions. These three functions are conscience (Rom. 9:1; 8:16), intuition (Mark 2:8), and communion (John 4:24). The conscience is the part of the spirit which distinguishes right from wrong and is not influenced by knowledge stored in the mind; it is rather a spontaneous direct judgment. The intuition is the “knowing” part of the spirit. All true knowledge originates not in the mind, but in the spirit.

The revelations of God and the movements of the Holy Spirit are known to the believer through his intuition. A believer must, therefore, take care to heed these two aspects of his spirit: the speaking of his
conscience and the teaching of his intuition. Communion is the third function of the spirit, and is related to the worship of God. The soul is not competent to worship God. According to John 4:24, “God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.”
The trichotomous view believes that not only does man possess a spirit which enables him to function in the spiritual realm; he also possesses a soul which is the organ of his self-consciousness. The soul is the seat of the human personality. The ingredients which make us human beings belong to the soul. The intellect, thought, ideals, love, emotion, understanding, decision, choice, and other like qualities are all associated with the soul. The three main functions of the soul are the will (Job 7:15), the mind (Lamentations. 3:20, RSV), and the emotion (2 Samuel 5:8; Deuteronomy. 6:5). The will is the instrument for making decisions and choices. The second function of the soul is the mind, the instrument for thinking. It is in this part of the soul that man reasons and has knowledge (Proverbs. 2:10). The third function of the soul is the emotion. This is the instrument of likes and dislikes. Through the emotions we are able to express love or hatred, joyfulness, anger, sadness, or happiness. A shortage in this area will render us insensitive. By a careful study of the Bible we cannot help but be impressed that these three primary functions of the personality belong to the soul. The trichotomous view does have a strong case. For instance we know that animals have a spirit because just like with human beings when an animal dies and its lifeless form lies on the ground it is because something that is non tangible has been removed from within it. However we know that animals do not have a soul and this is why animals never evolve intellectually in leaps and bounds from their norm, whereas humans do evolve intellectually significantly. For instance, over the last one hundred years look at the development of communications, finance, transportation, science and medicine. This is all due to the soul/intellect that makes man distinct from the animal kingdom. What we must not miss is that the animals (see Genesis 7:15) also have breath in their lungs but God did not breathe into them. There is something special about the breath that Adam received directly from God. Adam receiving the breath of God is unique in that he became a living soul. spirit that gave him life, but also a soul which gave him the ability to evolve in terms of his intellect. Whereas look at the development of cats and dogs as an example. The cat and dog of today still only does the same thing that cat and dogs did one thousand years ago. This is because animals do not have a soul. They operate on the basic premise of instinct and a genetically programmed routine. Yes, animals like dolphin, chimpanzees and dogs can be trained to do things which would cause us to be astonished but this learned behavior is not a natural feature of their development. Even those animals and plants which we are told have evolved over thousands of years, none of them would ever reach the position of being able to build a car or create a bottle of perfume. The analogy may sound rather crude or tongue in cheek but is conveyed to clearly show that man’s intellect is what gives him distinction from the animal world.

5. THE SPIRIT MAN Some of the qualities that make the spirit distinct from the physical body is that the spirit is not subject to the same laws that control our body. For instance if on earth we jump up from the ground we always come down because we are subject to the law of gravitation. If we decide to walk towards a wall we will eventually reach a point where we cannot go any further because the wall will block our path since we cannot walk through a physical substance where the atoms are so tightly packed together. However the spirit is not subject to these same laws. Additionally, in observing the accounts of outer body experiences, people have spoke of how their senses were heightened. For instance Pastor Rod Lewis from the UK who had an outer body experience in 1985 said regarding his sense of awareness when his spirit came out of his body, “All my natural senses were greatly heightened. The colours were more vivid; my hearing was incredibly acute and everything I saw was manifestly more distinctive than with my normal vision.”

Its interesting to at this point observe the nature of angels because angels are also spiritual beings (Hebrews 1:14) with the difference that they are not housed in earthly bodies that limit them in the same way human being living on earth are limited. The result of this difference is that we see situations where angels perform acts which to humans would seem supernatural, incredible and miraculous. For instance in Isaiah 37:36 there is reference how one angel killed 185,000 assyrian men in a single night. Psalms 103:20 declares how angels are mighty. We also see examples where angels are able to transform themselves to look like humans. Whilst one cannot make the assumption that the spirit of man is on par with angels in all characteristics, understanding how another group of “spiritual beings” such as angels operate, does give us an idea that the spiritual realm is not subject to the physical realm in the way that physical humans being would be subject. That said, there are still limitations that even spiritual beings are subject to. Daniel 10:13 clearly indicates that angels cannot be in more than one place at the same time and can also be delayed, or resisted by other spiritual beings as part of the complexity of spiritual warfare. So why is all of this relevant to sports? Mainly because the more that the new age gurus open up the area of man’s spirituality to athletes, the more that athletes will attempt to tap into the characteristics of their spirit being, and thus the more likely that the spirit being would essentially “override” the limitations imposed on the physical being. This could then cause the physical being to achieve extraordinary accomplishments that would be deemed to be impossible. We have already observed that the field of psychology is identifying the relevance of the mind in helping athletes to achieve a competitive advantage and there is nothing wrong with. Just like understanding that good nutrition will help the body to be stable and supple is the same way that understanding how the mind works is also of great value. However there is another side to psychology which taps into the spiritual world and it is this area which we believe that sports science will explore more and more over coming decades to maximize on overcoming the physical limitations of competing.

This ultimately could lead to supernatural results. Parapsychology by natural definition is the study of the human condition as it relates to the psychological nature of people to prey upon others. All of humanity has this potential to victimize other humans & living creatures. While many restrain or sublimate this tendency, some act upon these impulses. Parapsychology seeks to understand those thoughts, feelings and perceptions that lead to predatory behavior. However in the context of this section we extend Parapsychology to also relate to the psychological aspect of how athletes open themselves to be preyed upon by the spirit world and new age gurus as they seek to engage in spiritual method, concepts and action to help them achieve extraordinary physical accomplishments not realizing that they are opening themselves up to spiritual predators. The work of those in the new age movement affirms this. Take for instance the following statement from Ann Antoski, a psychic known for being able to bend objects with the power of her mind and who has a website called www.infinite-manifesting.org. Not only does she talk about the need to manifest more of the spirit but she also refers to the fact that that spiritual power is dormant but can be harnessed from elements of our DNA which scientist for decades had declared as being junk DNA because they could not see any use. We cover DNA a little further on but this is what she has to say. “Most individuals go through DNA changing symptoms and stages as we grow spiritually and continue to evolve more of our infinite spirit into our embodiment. The best most enduring description that helped me along as DNA changing symptoms occurred was realizing that there was more to me then just my body. Once we really comprehend this evolutionary understanding from our spirit, soul and heart that we are an infinite being using our body as our vehicle getting us around in physical reality helps to put the pieces together. For most of us it takes time and adjustments in our body the more we evolve in this journey. When the ego data of personality is running our lives, it’s like spiritual amnesia, the more we evolve, the more we remember which allows our body to adjust to that remembering memory. This spiritual memory is in our DNA and not activated or being used until we begin our awakening or remembering our spiritual connection. We may experience many DNA changing symptoms in our body as a result of that growth. When DNA was discovered it was assumed that 97% was considered junk and that we were only using 3% of our DNA. We now know that it was never junk, instead it is DNA with evolutionary potential for activation. As we evolve in consciousness we go through different stages in our body that literally changes and affects the encoding of information in our DNA activating more strands. We could call it divine potential DNA sitting dormant waiting to be activated as we evolve. More unknown information is coming through us from infinite consciousness as we evolve into new knowledge.”

6. THE PURPOSE OF LIMITATION When God created the Garden of Eden and placed man there as a guardian he gave Adam some very clear instructions. One of those instructions was a limitation in that Adam was not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and also from the tree of life. “And the Lord God commanded the man saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good an evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die” Genesis 2:16-17
However it was Satan transformed as a serpent who influenced Eve to conspire with Adam to break Gods command. The violation of Gods command thrust humanity into a damaged relationship with God and the endurance of thousands upon thousands of years of sin and its consequences as opposed to the peace, harmony and joy that Adam and Eve experienced before the fall. If there is a lesson here it is that Gods limitations are for our own protection, security and safety but also as a test of our faithfulness to him as a Sovereign God who provides us free will to make decisions and choices about his word. One of the limitations that God places on us today is that if we are to draw closer to our spirit and move from the realms of the physical to the realm of the spirit that it needs to be done under the direction of the Holy Spirit. An analogy of trying to move from the physical to the spiritual is akin to someone trying to cross the road. The side of the road they are leaving is can be defined as the “physical” and the side of the road they are trying to get to is the “spiritual”. However flowing across the road in different directions are a myriad of various spiritual mobile devices which are offering to transport you to the other side of the road. A few of them you may have heard of such as transcendental meditation, another is called yoga, another is called hypnosis, another is called astral projection and another is called clairvoyance. There are literally hundreds more and should you flag them down then they will happily seek to facilitate you across the road to your spiritual destination. However alternatively are flashing devices which are known as the lights of the Holy Spirit. These mobile devices can also help you so it is up to you to choose your mode of transportation. Now Gods limitation of how we shouldn’t cross the road is based on Deuteronomy 18:10, Leviticus 19:31, Leviticus 20:6, Galatians 5:20 and multiple passages from the Bible. “There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch” Deuteronomy 18:10 “Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.” Leviticus 19:31 “And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.” Leviticus 20:6 “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, strife, jealousy, wrath, selfishness, divisions, heresies” Galatians 5:19-20

“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.” James 4:8
These passages clearly indicate that trying to make contact with the spirit world unless it through the Holy Spirit in a repentant state is forbidden. Why? Because God is trying to protect us from heaping destruction upon ourselves, because we make ourselves open to destructive beings, hell bent on our spiritual and physical destruction. Not only does one make themselves open to destruction, but they also make themselves open to deception. II Corinthians 11:14 talks about how Satan masquerades as an angel of light. The lure of success and recognition is a powerful motivating factor and is one of the reasons why over coming decades we believe it is possible that those within the field of sports, will be lured more and more through the neutral portal of psychology into the world of the supernatural where they will make pacts to gain sports immortality. Secrets will be passed from the spiritual world to man to help him make significant and extraordinary advances in terms of physical accomplishment. These secrets will involve everything from genetic engineering to nanotechnology and occultic acts such as possible minor levitation. For instance imagine a sprinter running what seems to be a fantastic time yet if you had spiritual goggles on, what you saw was a situation where when running, his or her feet would actually not be touching the ground but levitating 1-2cm above the ground. This would be almost impossible for the human eye to discern yet could help to make significant advances on world records. Now before we start getting misquoted, we are not saying that Usain Bolt or any other fantastic achievement in the field of sport is actually demonically inspired. However what we are saying is that fantastic achievements of today are raising the question of “How far can man actually move beyond what already seems like an incredible achievement” and it is possible that we will in the future see even greater acts and feats which could be the result of the combination of sports science with the supernatural. The American athlete Tyson Gay is probably an example of what happens when one is simply depending on physical ability alone. From 2006 Tyson Gay had progressively established himself as the world leading 100m sprinter until the arrival of Usain Bolt in 2008. Unfortunately as Gay ran faster and faster in exerting more in trying to play catch up with Usain Bolt, his body also began to succumb to an avalanche of injuries including both hamstring and groin injuries. However an interesting statement was made by a specialist in America in which the specialist told Gay that he was running too fast for his body. In response Gay stated the following: "He thinks I'm running too fast for my body….It's one of those things that there is no reason, at 27 years old, that I should be getting injured every year – my groin, my knees, my hamstring, my back. It's something I could be deficient in and he wants to find out the problem, why my muscles can't handle me running that fast, why my body is not letting it happen….He's going to really take a look at my body and get me eating right and doing everything I can to make my body able to handle running those speeds. I can tell you for the past couple of weeks I've been mentally drained, tired, frustrated, because I'm hurt almost every year and it's not fun. I don't want to be down and out, I want to reach my full potential.”

7. THE MIRACLE CHARACTERISTICS OF DNA Man is a complex organism and whilst we have so far focused on the spiritual aspects of the human being there is yet another component of mankind which also has great significant. DNA. DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, is the hereditary material in humans and almost all other organisms. Nearly every cell in a person’s body has the same DNA. DNA is often described as the blueprint of an organism. It enables various cells to develop and work together to form a fully functional body, and controls characteristics such as eye colour, hair color, bone structure, height, weight etc. How much DNA influences very complex features (which are attributed as being the soul) such as intelligence and emotion is not yet fully understood.
The information that DNA contains is passed from one generation to the next. There is much debate over how much of what we are like is due to inheritance and defined by our DNA, and how much is defined by the influence of the environment. This is sometimes referred to as the 'nature/nurture' debate. Using gene technology, DNA can be modified or transferred from one organism to another. Genes are made up of short lengths of DNA and modern gene technology is able to make changes at the level of individual genes. However one of the most fascinating observations is that only 10% of DNA is used. The other 90% has been commonly termed “Junk DNA” because scientists had felt that it was DNA which was largely redundant and had no existing use. However recent lines of evidence indicate that some "junk DNA" sequences are likely to have unidentified functional activity, and other sequences may have had functions in the past. Recently junk DNA sequences were artificially expressed resulting in the synthesis of functional proteins. This new approach is called junkomics. In 2012, the ENCODE project at the National Human Genome Research Institute found results that Junk DNA is much more important than previously thought and that the traditional genes that they have always identified as “operational genes” are only a very small piece of what makes the body work. Their work shows that regions of the genome once thought to be junk are actually stuffed with DNA “switches” that help direct other genes in their work. Therefore removing “junk DNA” could potentially damage the way that other genes function. These switches tell each cell in your body which genes must be switched on or off to make a muscle, skin or nerve cell. The results are likely to have major implications for our understanding of common diseases, such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease, cancer and even the debilities of old age, such as Alzheimer's disease. These were previously thought to be chiefly caused by defective genes (together with environmental influences, such as smoking), but decades of research have has failed to find enough defects that could account for their prevalence. Today, scientists believe that these diseases are caused not by defective genes, but defective switching: a liver cell may be genetically tripped to stop absorbing blood sugar, thereby causing diabetes; a lung cell may be tripped into generating mutagens that attack its own DNA, causing cancer. A new era of gene-switch medicine may be on the horizon, but there are many problems that still have to be overcome. The first is getting the RNA-based gene-switch drugs safely inside the target cells and not into others where they might cause adverse side-effects. But even more of a challenge is to accurately predict the effect of flipping a genetic switch. The thousands identified by Encode are unlikely to work like simple light switches; instead, each switch is connected to many others in a vastly complicated gene circuit board. Flipping one switch will be more like dropping a stone into a pool: the effects will reverberate through the entire network, and the eventual outcome will not be easy to predict. Systems biology, a new science, is simultaneously trying to unravel the circuit boards to make better predictions. Five years of the Encode project has revealed just 1% of the human gene switches, but the pace of genetics is accelerating so fast that it seems likely that we will know most of them within a decade. Additionally researchers have also learnt that DNA can also be used to store non genetic and non biological information. A bioengineer and geneticist at Harvard’s Wyss Institute have successfully stored 5.5 petabits of data, around 700 terabytes, in a single gram of DNA, smashing the previous DNA data density record by a thousand times. The work, carried out by George Church and Sri Kosuri, basically treats DNA as just another digital storage device. Instead of binary data being encoded as magnetic regions on a hard drive platter, strands of DNA that store 96 bits are synthesised, with each of the bases, Thymine, Guanine, Adenine, and Cytosine (TGAC) representing a binary value (T and G = 1, A and C = 0). To read the data stored in DNA, you simply sequence it – just as if you were sequencing the human genome – and convert each of the TGAC bases back into binary. To aid with sequencing, each strand of DNA has a 19-bit address block at the start so a whole vat of DNA can be sequenced out of order, and then sorted into usable data using the addresses. In their article, published online by Science magazine, the scientists argued that DNA has unique advantages for data storage. They calculate that their method has by far the highest data density of any medium until now, beating flash media or even quantum holography by orders of magnitude. This is partly because DNA is three dimensional while other storage techniques are restricted to two dimensions.
Yet the main advantage of DNA storage may be durability. Whereas other storage advanced storage mediums need to be kept in sub zero environments, DNA can survive millenniums unharmed, as demonstrated by the sequencing of genetic information from ancient fossils. and techniques necessary for reading out the information will be present in future generations, because they are ubiquitous in nature. The authors admit that the cost and time needed to encode the information make it largely impractical at the moment. But they point out that the cost of DNA synthesis and sequencing has been dropping by a factor larger than five each year, much higher than the rate for electronic media, albeit from a much higher starting point. The scientists conclude that DNA is becoming an increasingly practical storage medium at a time when digital information is accumulating at an exponential rate. For their work, the researchers split into pieces the information of the book “Regenesis: How Synthetic Biology Will Reinvent Nature and Ourselves,” 29 co-written by Church. They then synthesized short DNA fragments of around 160 nucleotides, the bits in DNA. Each fragment carries part of the book, information about its position, as well as parts necessary for reading and replicating the piece. In the process, the scientists had created 70 billion copies of the book stored within the DNA. When reading out the information (or recovering the data from the DNA), the data was recovered with but 10 errors overall. The first demonstration of encoding information into DNA dates back to 1988. Until now, the largest amount of data encoded in nucleic acid has been only 7,920 bits, around one 700th what Church’s team has accomplished. The authors report on a number of improvements over previous methods, including a more flexible method of encoding data. It is only with recent advances in microfluidics and labs-on-a-chip that synthesizing and sequencing DNA has become an everyday task, though. While it took years for the original Human Genome Project to analyze a single human genome (some 3 billion DNA base pairs), modern lab equipment with microfluidic chips can do it in hours.
Just think about it for a moment: One gram of DNA can store 700 terabytes of data. That’s 14,000 50gigabyte Blu-ray discs. use today, you’d need 233 3TB drives, weighing a total of 151kg. In Church and Kosuri’s case, they have successfully stored around 700 kilobytes of data in DNA. Looking forward, the scientists foresee a world where biological storage will allow us to record anything and everything without reservation. Today, we wouldn’t dream of blanketing every square metre of Earth with cameras, and recording every moment for all eternity/human posterity, we simply don’t have the storage capacity. This is the reason that backed up data is usually only kept for a few weeks or months, it just isn’t feasible to have warehouses full of hard drives, which could fail at any time. If the entirety of human knowledge, every book, uttered word, and funny cat video can be stored in a few hundred kilos of DNA, it might just be possible to record everything, which is why such research is of importance to any plan which seeks to consolidate information on every person in the world. It’s also worth noting that it’s possible to store data in the DNA of living cells – though only for a short time at this moment. Storing data in your skin could be seen by governments as fantastic way of transferring data securely. But where in the Bible have we have we heard of this before?

8. FOURTH DIMENSIONAL TRANSITION In April 2011 a story was reported how the medical community had finally revealed how a small boy was the first person in the world to be born with three strands of DNA instead of two. Alfie Clamp from Nuneaton in the United Kingdom was born blind and with severe disabilities, which led doctors to carry out various tests. They revealed that his seventh chromosome had an extra strand of material which has never been documented anywhere in the world before. Doctors are baffled at his condition, which is so rare it does not have a name.
His parents Gemma and Richard Clamp only discovered something was wrong with their son after they first took him home. Within days, he was rushed back to hospital after he stopped breathing and his lips turned blue. Then when he was six weeks old, doctors discovered he had a rare abnormality in his DNA. Mrs Clamp said “When the doctors told us I was absolutely devastated. As a pregnant mum you spend nine months thinking about what it will be like when your baby takes their first step or claps their hands. 'Having a boy like Alfie makes you appreciate the little things. He didn't roll over until he was 18 months old, but we were so excited when he did.”

The condition left Alfie unable to see until he was three months old and his muscles were so weak he could not roll over on his own. He still suffers serious digestive problems and needs a cocktail of drugs every day to help his body absorb vital nutrients. He also suffers fits which sparked by high temperatures and metabolic problems stop him from eating or drinking. Is Alfie a completely unique case or is there something happening with the way the human body is evolving? What has been connected to the issue of increasing DNA strands is work that Astronomers are publishing regarding a level of activity currently underway on the sun that has never been witnessed before. This involves an enormous wall of plasma whose collapse could soon trigger one of the largest full halo coronal mass ejections ever recorded. One filament of magnetism alone has been estimated at more than a million kilometers across the face of the sun. This may consequently add to the bombardment of energy waves we have recently been receiving from the sun over the last few years. However scientists who study the effect of solar flares and their impact on the earth believe this could lead to accelerated changes within the cellular structure of humans progressing them to a fourth level density at a phenomenal rate. Towering over the sun's southeastern horizon as captured above by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory, are walls of plasma and filaments of magnetism. NASA have identified a dark filament of magnetism that is snaking more than halfway around the entire sun. From end to end, it stretches more than a million km or about three times the distance between Earth and the Moon.If the filament becomes unstable, as solar filaments are prone to do, it could collapse and hit the stellar surface below, triggering a Hyder flare. "Filaments are formed in magnetic loops that hold relatively cool, dense gas suspended above the surface of the Sun,"

explains David Hathaway, a solar physicist at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. "Filaments collapse when the magnetic field in their vicinity becomes unstable. This could happen, for example, if new magnetic field lines begin to poke through the Sun's surface beneath the filament."

On October 9, 2000, magnetic fields around a sunspot group (9182) suddenly changed their shape, leading to the explosive collapse of a nearby magnetic filament suspended high above the Sun's surface. The collapse triggered a C7-class solar flare and a full halo coronal mass ejection that struck Earth's magnetosphere 3 days later. Solar scientist and professor Marshall Daniels says, "If the magnetic filament currently being observed by NASA becomes unstable and collapses, we could be looking at an explosion that would dwarf that of sunspot group 9182 back in 2000. This would most certainly be an X class flare or one the most powerful of its kind."

With the sun’s assistance, there are major changes and mutations underway that have never occurred according to geneticists which are not similar to the mutations that one would normally associate with over exposure to the sun. Standard over exposure to the sun and ultra violet follows a process which normally results in cancer. DNA is a double stranded molecule, similar to a ladder twisted around its rungs. Each strand on the side of the ladder consists of strings of chemical letters called deoxyribonuclease bases that form the "rungs" by binding to a partner on the opposite strand. The bases in the double strand of DNA always pair up with the same partners on the opposite strand: a thymine with an adenosine, and a cytosine with a guanine. Cytosine and thymine are called pyrimidine bases. Exposure to ultra violet (UV) light can cause two pyrimidine bases sitting next to each other on the same strand to bind to each other, instead of binding to their partner on the opposite strand. That chemical glitch is called a pyrimidine dimer, and it produces a bulge in DNA wherever it occurs. If you sit in the sun for just a few hours, thousands of pyrimidine dimers can form in your DNA, causing thousands of bulges along your DNA strands Your cells cannot read past or copy the bulges in DNA. A cellular process called excision repair will fix the bulge so that the DNA can make proteins and copy itself, but the process is flawed. One base of the pyrimidine dimer is snipped out of the strand, and a new base is substituted in. The replacement base, however, is inserted randomly, and there is only a 1 in 4 chance that it is the same as the base that was removed. The excision repair process introduces DNA mutations, and every mutation increases your risk for developing skin cancer. They knock codons off your DNA. Many codons are non-essential, so knocking one or two off the strand will have no effect on your cell's day-to-day functions. However, if an essential codon is knocked off or otherwise damaged, the cell will operate according to incorrect instructions. (For instance, making skin in the middle of your liver, i.e. tumor) The "stop" codon is particularly liable to be knocked off, and if this happens, the cell will go haywire, making proteins nonstop and flooding your system. If your immune system destroys the damaged cell, all may yet be well. But if the cell divides and multiplies, then you will have many cells creating tumors and flooding your body with the wrong chemicals at the wrong time. This is the disease we call cancer. However several years ago in Mexico City there was a convention of geneticists from around the world, and the main topic was the DNA change that is occurring which is totally different to what we see above as standard DNA mutation. Some geneticists believe we are making an evolutionary change, as they are now gathering more information on what we are changing into. Dr. Berrenda Fox provides evidence of DNA and cellular changes in an interview with Patricia Resch. Dr. Fox, a holistic practitioner of the 'Avalon Wellness Center' in Mt Shasta, California. The Avalon Clinic represents the re-emergence of the ideal of healing as practiced on the original Isle of Avalon. A transcript of the interview is as follows 30 in which Dr Fox has proven through blood tests that some people have actually developed new strands of DNA. Patricia Resch: Berrenda, tell us a little about your background. Berenda Fox: I have doctorates in physiology and naturopathy. Patricia Resch: What are the changes that are happening at this time on the planet, and how are our bodies being affected? Berrenda Fox: There are major changes, mutations that haven't occurred, according to geneticists, since the time we supposedly came out of the water. Several years ago in Mexico City there was a convention of geneticists from around the world, and the main topic was the DNA change. We are making an evolutionary change, yet we don't know what we are changing into. Patricia Resch: How is our DNA changing? Berrenda Fox: Everyone has one double helix of DNA. What we are finding is that there are other helixes that are being formed. In the double helix there are two strands of DNA coiled into a spiral. It is my understanding that we will be developing twelve helixes. During this time, which seems to have started maybe 5 to 20 years ago, we have been mutating. This is the scientific explanation. It is a mutation of our species into something for which the end result is not yet known. The changes are not known publicly, because the scientific community feels it would frighten the population. However, people are changing at the cellular level. I am working with three children right now who have three DNA helixes. Most people know and feel this. Many religions have talked about the change and know it will come about in different ways. We know it is a positive mutation even though physically, mentally, and emotionally it can be misunderstood and frightening. Patricia Resch: Are these children displaying any characteristics different from other children? Berrenda Fox: These are children who can move objects across the room just by concentrating on them, or they can fill glasses of water just by looking at them. They're telepathic You would almost think by knowing these children that they are half angelic or superhuman, but they're not. I think they are what we are growing into during the next few decades. Patricia Resch: Do you think this will happen to all of us? Berrenda Fox: It seems like most people who were born before 1940 have not been able to make the shift, but have initiated something into the next generation that gives them the capacity to form another helix within our lifetime. Our immune and endocrine systems are the most evident of these changes. That is one of the reasons I work with research in immunological testing and therapy. Some adults that I have tested actually do have another DNA helix forming. Some are even getting their third. These people are going through a lot of major shifts in their consciousness and physical bodies, because it is all one. In my opinion, the Earth and everyone here is raising its vibration. Many of the children born recently have bodies that are magnetically lighter. Those of us that are older and choose to change have to go through many physical changes. Patricia Resch: What causes change in bodies born with normal two-strand DNA? Berrenda Fox: The easiest way to mutate our DNA is through a virus. Consequently viruses are not necessarily bad. Viruses live only on living tissue. DNA viruses like Epstein Barr and the Herpes #6 change cellular structure. The retrovirus HIV is not a DNA virus. eats it up. Most people who go through this process and come out the other side have a new profession, a new way of thinking, or at least a starting of a new way of life. Even though they may feel really sick, tired, or hopeless at times, it is a gift. They are being given a chance to change their DNA structure and their body into a lighter, healthier body that can see them into the next generation. The angels that are being seen are signs that we are shifting. As I understand it, we have until about 2012 to complete this process. Patricia Resch: What other changes should we expect to see? Berrenda Fox: There will be no disease, we will not need to die. We will be able to learn our lessons, not through suffering, but through joy and love. The old system has to crumble away, and is not doing that without putting up a big fight. So you have all the wars; a lot of the medical-type of healing is not working; the government is not working. A lot of the old paradigms can no longer exist yet are fighting to be maintained, but there is no doubt that it is changing. Those of us who have chosen to live at this time are the forerunners of almost a new species. It is human, yet we are at the same time actually manifesting heaven on Earth. We are receiving extra help from masters and extraterrestrials, angelic beings, and learning to go inward. The more we are able to go in and listen to that quiet voice, the more we are in tune with the changes that are happening. Patricia Resch: What are some of the side effects of these changes? Berrenda Fox: With a cellular change you are sometimes going to feel as though you are not here. You may feel exhaustion, because we are literally changing cells and becoming new beings. Like a new baby, you may need lots of rest. Mental confusion and not being able to concentrate on routine tasks may happen as we are being programmed for something larger. Aches and pains throughout the body for which there is no specific cause are common. Many people feel as though they are going crazy. If they go into an orthodox medical office, most likely they will be put on Prozac, because they can't define what it is. It is difficult for the medical profession because they are not used to dealing with the energetic body. Because the chakras are related to our endocrine system, women will go through hormonal changes. There may be crying without knowing why because crying releases hormones. Many women are going through menopause earlier because we are accelerating. End of Interview Transcript. Prominent New Age Movement advocates are seeing this time as a confirmation of their belief that the earth is to go through a significant shift in the future which will alter mankind from a physical and spiritual perspective. New Agers believe that we are being changed physically from carbon-based beings with 2 strands of DNA into crystalline beings with 1,024 strands of DNA (eventually), because only crystalline substances can exist on the higher dimensional levels they believe we are moving to. For instance New Ager, Kate Anne Spreckley states, “For years science has recognized that we have two active physical strands of DNA. We also have a further ten energetic DNA strands which have been dormant within the Human Being for many centuries. These dormant strands of DNA have been discovered by scientists, who not knowing the function of these strands, have identified them as ‘junk’ DNA.

Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is a nucleic acid that contains all the genetic instructions used in the development and functioning of all known living things. The main role of DNA is the long-term storage of information. DNA is often compared to a set of blueprints since it contains the instructions needed to construct other components of cells. The DNA segments that carry genetic information are called genes, but other DNA sequences have structural purposes or are involved in regulating the use of genetic information. Our DNA is therefore our personal blueprint and as such contains all our mental, physical, emotional and Spiritual information. The original Human Being had 12 Strands of DNA actively working and maintaining the full function of the Human as a Spiritual Being. With our over preoccupation with left brained thinking and the closing down of our heart centers, these ‘extra’ DNA strands have been lost. The consequences of this loss are that we live in a spiritually deficient society and our intuitive and healing abilities have been hugely reduced. It has also resulted in us only accessing and using a very small part of our brains. The human body is very valuable. It stores and holds a wealth of information, wisdom and knowledge on every aspect of ourselves, our world and all of life. Combinations of intelligence are stored within the Human and a great amount of data is stored inside the body. Inside our bodies are the formulas required to replicate other forms of intelligence throughout the Universe. At conception, we receive, from our two different bloodlines (our parents) certain matched and paired recessive genes. These genes hold light codes that give us the highest opportunity for accessing and developing our Spiritual abilities and for healing the damaged and wounded aspects of our Soul. At the same time these genes hold memories which have created blocks to our path to oneness and initiated our deep-rooted feelings of separation, separation from our true essence and our Creator. This memory of separation has forced us to created experiences and situations where we are given the opportunity to heal ourselves, our world and our separations. As a Soul we carefully picked and chose our parents and their bloodlines in order to facilitate experiences and situations that will enable us to heal ourselves. We have therefore handpicked our own DNA structures and the possible opportunities to activate and awaken further strands of DNA. The energy of our Earth is moving through major vibrational shifts and into higher levels of consciousness. As the Earth raises Her vibration, we as Human Beings are being given many opportunities to raise our vibration. This shift is being referred to as the Ascension and there are many people around the world who are experiencing confusion and chaos in their worlds. Yet in this seeming chaos and confusion lie great opportunities for us to grow, expand and evolve. One of the most exciting aspects of our evolutionary process is the retooling of our DNA. Cosmic light encoded rays from our Creator have been coming into our Earth stimulating change and reordering our Human bodies. As the light encoded filaments are absorbed into our being our scattered DNA is being activated and reformed into new helixes or strands of DNA and being reordered into bundles. As this rebundling and reordering progresses we create a more evolved nervous system that facilitates new information and data to move into our consciousness. Many of our dormant brain cells are being awoken and we are being able to access our full body potential. As our bodies fill with more light so our memories are opened and we evolve as our DNA evolves into conscious Multidimensional Beings. Our 12 strands of DNA activate and connect to our 12 Chakra points, energy doorways through which we access our Spiritual heritage. The 12 strands of DNA serve as links through the 12 chakras to the energy web outside of our bodies. The 12 chakras act as energetic doorways into our body connecting us to the vital forces of existence. It is through opening and activating these portals of energy that we can begin to truly know ourselves.

As all 12 strands of DNA are now forming, whatever issues we have not dealt with and peacefully cleared in our personal history, will create chaos. Feelings and memories are emerging offering us an opportunity to experience the fabric of our being and revealing who we are through the events and beliefs that are intricately woven into us. Our task is to awaken, activate and unite all 12 creating the spinning of the 12. This spinning of the 12 strands of DNA and 12 chakra points will draw to us energies that will intermingle and move throughout our beings activating and awakening the many different aspects of ourselves. This will trigger new versions, understandings and meanings to all the events in our lives and our world. Our 12 chakras are collections of energy where events can emerge. They hold memory and identity and each corresponds to a strand of DNA. These 12 energy centers must be accessed from within where we can feel the data corresponding with and translating our experiences within the context of our minds. By opening our hearts and minds all the answers to the great mysteries will be found within. We are required to step out of our current belief systems and to create new belief systems as the mind is structured to evolve and form our experiences based on what we command. Our mind is not our master; we are the masters of our own minds. The mind is but a tool to be used to create reality and nothing more. By consciously working with the waves of energy and light moving into our Earth, we are able to realize and understand that the transformation of this planet is based upon the healing and power of our minds. Activating the full 12 DNA strands will create a connection between our human genetic coding and give us access to all knowledge and wisdom. This is the awareness and understanding of who we truly are. In activating all 12 strands of DNA we create an alignment within ourselves allowing us to gently shift into much higher vibrational levels and frequency of light, helping our ascension process by further awakening our human consciousness.”

9. DNA: THE SOURCE CODE OF GODS IMAGE Whilst new agers believe our body is mutating for an evolutionary and higher consciousness reason could there be a biblical consideration behind all of this discussion about DNA changes considering that God is the source of our DNA for bears the image of God.
Note the following scriptures. “And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.” Revelation 20:1-3 “There shall be no more there an infant of days, nor an old man that has not fulfilled his days: for the child shall die a hundred years old; but the sinner being a hundred years old shall be accursed.” Isaiah 65:20 “The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the ox: and dust shall be the serpent's food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, says the LORD.” Isaiah 65:25
Such passages make it clear that there are some coming paradigm shifts which will take place in the future. The first shift is a period of time known as the Millennium in which Jesus Christ at his second coming will literally begin an earthly rule for one thousand years. This view known as pre-milleniasm believes that during this period of time there will be a significant change within the earth realm under the rule of Christ. •
Satan will be bound so the influence of evil will be limited significantly

Humans on earth who have survived the judgments of Revelation and are alive at the Second coming of Christ and enter into the Millennium, will live longer as nature will partially revert back to the conditions before the flood

The second shift which will take place is at the end of the Millennium when there is the final Judgment in which those destined for Hell will be sent to eternal torment and those destined for eternal life will enjoy the privileges of access to a new Heaven and a new Earth. “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.” Revelation 21:1 “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” II Peter 3:10
It is impossible to fully understand the complete picture of these end time events since the Bible only provides glimpses of these incredible events, however one can conclude that there would have to be coming genetic changes to man’s DNA to accommodate these complete paradigm shifts whether it be •
For humans being able to live longer during the Millennium

For a believer having a body which is no longer subject to pain, disease or the laws of gravity
•
For an unbeliever having a body which is able to withstand decomposition in hell
In II Corinthians, the Apostle Paul states “But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come? Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die: And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain: But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body. All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” II Corinthians 15:35-57
Revelation and Daniel also seem to describe that the glorified body of the believer will consist of light because it will absorb the light that they will be exposed to, being in the presence of God. Scriptures that affirm that God is light include Isaiah 6:1, Daniel 7:9, II Thessalonians 1:7-9, Isaiah 30:33. Revelation 1:12-18 also states describing Jesus

“His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters”
It is a medical fact that presently our DNA absorbs and emits light. The School of Medicine at Kanazawa University in Japan states “All organic life absorbs, emits and processes light. Biophoton emission or spontaneous ultra-weak light emission has been observed from almost all living organisms”

Even though the light we emit is probably too low for us to discern it within our visual spectrum, nevertheless the principle is one which will expand significantly when believers finally dwell in the presence of God where some Christian researchers believe that believers will absorb and emit the light of God.
Many believers who have had legitimate outer body experiences have mentioned how the beings they saw in the heavenly dimensions had a significant radiance or seemed to emit a powerful light. We also see this in the Bible where Moses after talking to God seemed to have absorbed Gods light to the point that when he returned to the Children of Israel they were afraid. In Exodus 34:29 “When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord. When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him.”
We also see this on the Mount of Transfiguration in Matthew 17:2 “After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.”
There is an interesting proposition put forward by an author called Douglas Hamp who believes that before the fall of Adam, that Adam in his perfect state had a body which genetically was able to withstand and absorb the light of God. However when Adam and Eve sinned they lost their covering of light as their DNA was corrupted and so they discovered their nakedness because their covering had disappeared. This also meant they were unable to be fully in the presence of God as before as their body would not have been able to withstand the presence of God in a fallen state. 31

As we come to the close of this section it is important to reaffirm that the creation of life and the creation of an autonomous, independent self aware being, is a secret hidden in DNA for which only God Almighty knows the source code. What God created in the Garden of Eden was a perfect being in Adam. It is only because of sin why the human race was corrupted. However the original source code of Adams DNA was one of perfection. However Satan has been troubled by this for centuries because despite attempts to be like God and create perfect beings, the demonic attempts to create life have only resulted in the creation of mutations and monsters and consequences that have back fired both on Satan and the human race. It is also significant to note that in his quest for the “God Source Code”, Satan has only been able to manipulate existing DNA rather than being able to create DNA which requires the keys to the mind of God. This is why todays attempts by scientists to create life by crossing different kinds of species will result in specific consequences ahead because there were specific reasons why God said that animals were to reproduce only after their own kind.
DNA is God's genetic design code, and is present in every cell of our bodies. The DNA design code in every cell contains the complex genetic blueprint for all physical development. This includes all the necessary information for each specialized cell to develop. This is how the human baby is created in the womb, using the design code, DNA, given by God. At the point of conception where the sperm and egg fuses to form what is termed a “Zygote”, at that point is when the spirit enters that physical form to create a living soul which then begins to develop. The information in the DNA includes information about construction of the brain, the heart, the liver, the circulatory system, the skeleton, and all of the other complex biological systems of the human body. The DNA code includes details of our height, our personality, our intelligence, the colours of our eyes and other physical attributes. There are 75 trillion cells in the human body. Each cell has a full complement of chromosomes in its nucleus. Each nucleus has 46 chromosomes made up of 23 pairs, one pair from the father and one pair from the mother of each individual. Each chromosome contains a strand of DNA. Every single cell in the human body has a design code, with information about how it should function, repair itself and reproduce Each strand of DNA includes hundreds of millions of base pairs. Stretched out straight, each strand of DNA would measure 3 to 9 feet long and about 20 atoms across. British philosopher, Dr. Antony Flew, had been a leading spokesperson for atheism, actively involved in debate after debate. However, scientific discoveries within the last 30 years brought him to a conclusion he could not avoid. In a video interview in December 2004 he stated, "Super-intelligence is the only good explanation for the origin of life and the complexity of nature."

Prominent in his conclusion were the discoveries of DNA. Here's why. DNA in our cells is very similar to an intricate computer program. In the images on the next page you will see that a computer program is made up of a series of ones and zeros (called binary code). The sequencing and ordering of these ones and zeros is what makes the computer program work properly.
In the same way, DNA is made up of four chemicals, abbreviated as letters A, T, G, and C. Much like the ones and zeros, these letters are arranged in the human cell like this: CGTGTGACTCGCTCCTGAT and so on. The order in which they are arranged instructs the cell's actions. What is amazing is that within the tiny space in every cell in your body, this code is three billion letters long. To grasp the amount of DNA information in one cell, "a live reading of that code at a rate of three letters per second would take thirty-one years, even if reading continued day and night." It has also been determined that 99.9% of your DNA is similar to everyone's genetic makeup. What is uniquely you comes in the fractional difference in how those three billion letters are sequenced in your cells. The U.S. government is able to identify everyone in America by the arrangement of a nine-digit social security number. Yet, inside every cell in you is a three-billion-lettered DNA structure that belongs only to you. This code identifies you and continually instructs your cells' behavior. Dr. Francis Collins, director of the Human Genome Project (that mapped the human DNA structure) said that one can "think of DNA as an instructional script, a software program, sitting in the nucleus of the cell."

Perry Marshall, an information specialist, comments on the implications of this. "There has never existed a computer program that wasn't designed [whether it is] a code, or a program, or a message given through a language, there is always an intelligent mind behind it."

Just as former atheist Dr. Antony Flew questioned, it is legitimate to ask oneself regarding this three billion letter code instructing the cell...who wrote this script? Who placed this working code, inside the cell? On June 26, 2000, President Clinton congratulated those who completed the human genome sequencing. President Clinton said, "Today we are learning the language in which God created life. We are gaining ever more awe for the complexity, the beauty, the wonder of God's most divine and sacred gift."

Dr. Francis Collins, director of the Human Genome Project, followed Clinton to the podium stating, "It is humbling for me and awe inspiring to realize that we have caught the first glimpse of our own instruction book, previously known only to God."

When looking at the DNA structure within the human body, we cannot escape the presence of intelligent (incredibly intelligent) design. According to the Bible (which is itself incredibly complex) God is not only the Author of our existence, but he is the Relationship that makes our existence meaningful. All the intangibles in life that we crave...enough strength for any situation, joy, wisdom, and knowing we are loved...God alone gives these to us as we listen to him and trust him. He is our greatest, reliable guide in life. Just as he has engineered DNA to instruct the cell, he offers to instruct us to make our lives function well, for his glory and for our sake, because he loves us.
