Which High Schools Did High-Scoring Middle School Students Attend Last Year? In March, thousands of New York City 8th graders received offer letters from the city’s public high schools. Many of the city’s highest-scoring students will likely attend one of the city’s nine specialized high schools. But many high-scorers—including some offered admission to a specialized high school—will attend other schools. Last year’s 4,800 high-scoring middle school students attended 233 different high schools when they entered 9th grade. These high-scoring students notched a level 4, meaning they exceeded grade standards on their 7th grade New York State English Language Arts and math tests. We have identified the high schools most frequently chosen by last year’s high-scorers and highlighted the five schools most commonly attended by the students’ ethnic group. A total of 12 schools made the list. High-Scoring Hispanic Students Attended the Largest Number of Different High Schools
