(singing the words in italics) Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas?

Female:

You sound doubtful.

All:

(with fervor) Right!

Female:

I don’t know why. I’m sure I am going to have a very merry Christmas!

All:

Oh?

Female:

I sure am! I’m getting everything I asked for - a new coat, a ruby ring, and my very own car!

All:

Wow! (pause, speaks words in dark print with emphatic feeling) Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! (then, drop voice to express doubt) Merry Christmas?

Female?

(squeaky voice, elongating the word into two syllables) Wh...at?

Male:

Why the question mark?

All:

Sigh! (speak the word with a sigh)

Male:

What a sigh! You skeptics are ruining Christmas. Everywhere I go I hear complaints about how commercial Christmas is getting to be. (Shrugs shoulders and heaves a sign of disgust.)

All:

Well?

Male:

Well, so what? I am looking forward to a very merry Christmas for that very reason. Thanks to Christmas my folks are finally giving me the money for a ski trip I’ve been longing to take.

All:

Wow! Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! (with enthusiasm & bounce) Merry Christmas? (doubtfully)

Child:

You sound concerned.

All:

Yes!

Child:

I think I know why. You are afraid people have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas, aren’t you?

All:

So?

Child

So, I am concerned, too. I want everyone to have a merry Christmas. And I know Jesus wants that, too. That’s why He was born. So everyone who trusts him can have a merry, abundant life - not just at Christmas but throughout the year. I’m glad I’m going to have a merry Christmas because Jesus lives in my heart.

All:

Wow! Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas! (spoken with great enthusiasm)
