Our menu will be roasted pork loin, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, roll with butter, and apple pie squares for dessert. Shane Phillips provides the entertainment. Shane sings and plays the guitar to music from Sinatra to the Eagles and everything in between. He has performed for troops in Vietnam and vacationers on cruise ships. Reserve by Sep 18. Our members that are celebrating life after 90 share their secrets to longevity! The menu is our savory meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans and chocolate raspberry mousse for dessert. The meal ticket is free if you are 90 or older, compliments of Mentor Seniors LLC Board, but please register. Participants under 90 years old may make reservations for $6 until we are sold out. Flu Shots

The Lake County Health District will administer the flu shots this year. The high dose flu vaccine has been designed specifically for individuals 65 years of age and older. The Health District will accept Medicaid, Medicare Part B and several private insurances for those who qualify. Otherwise, the cost of the flu vaccine is $20. Please bring all insurance cards. Remembrance Hour

Join us as we gather to remember our members who have passed away in 2015. The nondenominational observance, will include a portion of the hour for you to briefly eulogize that special member (optional), a brief uplifting ritual, and then a garden planting (weather permitting). PLEASE PREREGISTER by October 31 letting us know the member who has passed away that you would like us to remember. You may bring a photo or memento for the display table as part of the remembrance. Medicare Talks

Welcome to Medicare

This presentation is geared towards individuals becoming eligible for Medicare. It will highlight the enrollment windows for Medicare and will outline the various Medicare options. In addition, the presentation will cover how to avoid Medicare penalties, as well as savings programs available to help save on Medicare costs. Medicare Check-up

This presentation focuses on Open Enrollment. Medicare’s open enrollment window is October 15th through December 7th. Since this presentation is geared for those already on Medicare, the focus will be more on the specific Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D plans and the changes for the upcoming year. Veterans Breakfast

Calling all soldiers to the mess hall at the Mentor Senior Center for the 6th annual Veterans Appreciation Breakfast. A delicious breakfast of pancakes, eggs and sausage will be served. The program includes the Color Guard, guest speaker, and entertainment. Free to Veterans and $4 for guests. Please register by Nov 6 in person or by calling 440-974-5725. Thanksgiving Holiday Celebration at LaMalfa

You’re invited to enjoy this annual luncheon at LaMalfa. The delicious meal includes turkey breast with gravy, Italian salad, stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetable, cranberry sauce, roll and butter, pumpkin pie, coffee and tea. Special entertainment by Eddie and the Edsels will fill our afternoon with wonderful music. The Senior Center Advisory Board will contribute $5 of the $15 for the first 250 Senior Center members. All reservations MUST be made by November 5. Reservations will not be available the day of the event. Please request Laketran if needed, when making your reservation. (The kitchen will be open at the Mentor Senior Center on this day with a limited menu). Any member that has a need for special assistance is eligible for the Special Elders Program. We have three staff members dedicated to working with the Special Elders population from 10:30 - 2:00, Monday - Friday. The Special Elders gives seniors the support and assistance they need to more fully participate in Senior Center recreation activities. See Dianne, Maggie or Deb for enrollment information. Our annual volunteer recognition lunch was a smashing success as we honored all of our hard working volunteers. This year we had 225 volunteers contribute 11,933 hours of community service. Thank you for offering a smile and a helping hand. Because of you we can do so much!! Welcome to fall, the return to school and great community activities. Thanks to all who came out and made Cityfest a great weekend. Take advantage of the perks of being a senior to support your neighbors and grandkids at Mentor High School athletic events. Simply identify yourself at the gate to receive free admission (showing your Golden Buckeye card is also appreciated) to any regular season, general admission seat. Show your support for our celebration lunch servers by cheering on the volleyball team this fall and boys hoops in the winter. Dave Discusses I don’t want to say that summer is over as I am still hoping for several more hot days, but with kids and grandkids going back to school, the end of the summer is near. We have added a 2nd date for Ethnic Cleveland 4 since there is a huge wait list. The new date for this exciting local trip is October 14. Music Bingo is back! After a trial run with lots of positive reviews, the high energy and entertaining Music Bingo will be back on September 16 at 10 a.m. Our annual chili cook-off returns to the center on Friday, October 16. The event is sponsored by The Association of Specialists in Aging (ASA) and features wonderful homemade chili, salad, rolls and desserts. Local celebrity judges will be on hand to see who is voted the 2015 chili cook-off champion. And finally, a big THANK YOU to all our wonderful volunteers, you are a very important part of the center and help make it a special place!

The Mentor Senior Center Board graciously offers financial assistance for those with a demonstrated financial need. Financial assistance is available for special events, classes, Lake Tran (up to two roundtrips per week) and membership. In addition health services such as podiatrist and vitality massage, as well as one day trip per year can be considered for scholarship. The process is simple. Fall Classes - Fitness and Movement Classes Sign Up Schedule For Fall Classes Mentor residents: August 10 Nonresidents: August 11 Senior Center membership is required to participate in Senior Center activities including classes, trips and programs. Please register and pay at least one week before the beginning date of each class. The City of Mentor accepts Cash, Check, Visa and Mastercard. When registering online, Discover and American Express may also be used. PROGRAM/ACTIVITY REFUND GUIDELINES 1. A full refund or transfer is available if Mentor Senior Center cancels the program/activity. 2. Transfers can be made with full credit, up to the first day of the program. Transfers must be within the same season and year of programs and into a program that has available space. 3. Fitness Center/Exercise Equipment Training We have cardiovascular equipment including 5 treadmills, 3 bikes, 2 seated ellipticals, and 3 standing ellipticals. The Tuff Stuff strength station offers a wide variety of exercises and the Precor stretch trainer offers great stretching options. You must be 55 years or older, a member of the senior center and must take the Exercise Equipment Training Class to participate. Learn to use our equipment safely with proper form, seat and weight settings and how to use a workout card to track your progress from a certified instructor. Classes are limited to four participants. The two hours of instruction is available in 2 formats: The one hour, 2 session class is recommended for most seniors and those new to exercise. The two hour, 1 session class is recommended only for those experienced exercisers already familiar with the equipment. Due to small class size, it is not possible to do a make up if you miss one of your appointed classes.
