Hungarian Luncheon Thursday August 9, 11:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The Hungarian Group invites you to join us for a traditional Hungarian meal and music. Hungarian artifacts will be on display in the display cabinets. Enjoy Hungarian goulash, green beans with bacon, and a cheesy biscuit. There will be a Hungarian cake for dessert and a choice of coffee, tea, iced tea or lemonade. No other food will be served this day. International Potluck Picnic at Mentor Beach Park Tuesday, August 28, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. The views are spectacular. The weather (usually) cooperates, but we always have a great time rain or shine. This annual event is open to everyone!

Bring a dish to share that has been a tradition in your culture or just a favorite of yours. Coffee and lemonade will be provided. Transportation is available by scheduling with LakeTran at 440-354-6100. Complimentary reservations are available at the Mentor Senior Center until August 21. The Italian, German, Hungarian and Slovenian Culture Groups host this event and all are welcome to attend. This is the month of our annual picnic. We’ll be serving barbecued chicken quarters, sweet potato, coleslaw, roll and cream filled chocolate cupcake for dessert. There will be iced tea and lemonade to drink. This monthly event is open to everyone. No other food will be served this day. Games and fun prizes are provided by the Center’s Decorating Committee from 11—11:45 a.m. (Nice White elephant items are being accepted to be used for prizes). Make reservations in person or over the phone with your credit card by Friday, August 24. Cost is $5.50. Thank you to Emeritus Senior Living for co-sponsoring this event. # 21845

This special luncheon will honor all of our hardworking volunteers. If you are a member who has recorded at least 12 volunteer hours from July 1, 2011 – June 30, 2012, your registration will be paid for by funds allocated through Mentor Senior LLC Board and the City of Mentor. The menu includes campanelle pasta with sausage, meatball and a garden salad. Save room for pineapple coconut cake for dessert. Watch for your invitation post card in the mail. Nonvolunteers and guests can also purchase the meal for $6. Let us know if you need LakeTran transportation when you make your reservation. Make reservations by September 5. Mentor Seniors LLC Election Mentor Seniors, LLC Board of Trustees serves as an Advisory Board to the Mentor Senior Center. There are five elected officers including president, vice president, treasurer, corresponding secretary and recording secretary. The nominating committee is seeking nominations for officers for a two year term Jan 1, 2013 – December 31, 2014. If you are interested in one of these positions please see a current Board officer or indicate position interest at the blue book at the front desk by August 15. The nominating committee will submit a slate of names to the board at the September 10th board meeting and the election will take place at the annual meeting in October. The president, vice president, treasurer and recording secretary must be Mentor residents. A non-resident who has volunteered 30 hours in the past calendar year is eligible to serve as corresponding secretary.

Directors corner, directory, birthdays Remarks from Renee We have many great activities here at the Center to keep you busy having fun this summer. Join the hiking club for exercise, scenery and comraderie, enjoy some fresh air with bocce and corn hole on Wednesday nights, learn to use the exercise equipment safely in the exercise equipment training class or check out the new chair yoga class on Tuesday nights. We have many opportunities for great food this month with the Hungarian luncheon on the 9th, our monthly celebration picnic luncheon on the 31st, and the annual international potluck picnic at Mentor Beach Park on the 28th. Please plan to join us to recognize our many wonderful volunteers at our Volunteer Recognition luncheon on September 12. For those of you looking for valuable ways to spend your time, please consider volunteering in the kitchen. We have a great group of fun volunteers who would love some help Mon, Wed or Fri from 9:30 – 1. Whatever adventures you chose, make sure to enjoy the warm weather while we have it, have fun and get out and play!

Notes from Nick Due to popular demand we will be taking a trip to the new Horseshoe Casino in Cleveland! The trip will depart Tuesday, October 9 and the cost will be $21 with no bonus. Sign up now as this bus will sell out quickly.

Please register and pay at least one week before the beginning date of each class. The City of Mentor accepts Cash, Check, Visa and Mastercard. When registering online, Discover and American Express may also be used. PROGRAM/ACTIVITY REFUND GUIDELINES READ CAREFULLY. 1.
