The Town of Lakeshore announced the name of our multi-use recreation facility. The facility will be called the Atlas Tube Centre. Capital Campaign Chairs, Barry and Stephanie Zekelman donated $1 million to name the facility. In addition to the substantial donation, the Zekelman’s have also donated the steel for the Aquatic Centre, estimated to be $100,000. Mr. Zekelman began his career at Atlas Tube, assuming ownership with his brothers, with his father’s sudden passing in 1986. With a dedication to customer service, lean manufacturing, employee empowerment and leading edge technology, Atlas Tube flourished. Atlas Tube is now part of JMC Steel Group, the largest independent manufacturer of tubular products in North America. They produce more than 2 million tons of tubular products a year through their 12 manufacturing facilities. Barry and Stephanie have been very generous with their time to our Capital Campaign, helping the Town achieve its fundraising goals. “As members of this community we are proud to lend our services to empower our town to build this beautiful facility. The Atlas Tube Centre honors my father, Harry Zekelman who started Atlas Tube, a business centered on effectiveness, efficiency and our employees.” Stated Barry Zekelman. Mayor Tom Bain stated “Lakeshore’s dream of a new recreation facility is here. Our Atlas Tube Centre serves as a memento to the extreme generosity of Stephanie and Barry Zekelman. We cannot thank them enough for their donation towards this facility and assistance in our Capital Campaign.” Our new Atlas Tube Centre, will offer 3 NHL sized ice pads with all rinks equipped with figure skating harnesses. There will be an indoor heated walking track, several community meeting spaces, a dance studio, an enlarged library providing free WI-FI throughout the complex, and a double gymnasium complete with indoor baseball netting. The second phase, starting this fall, will include our new Aquatic centre and 5km walking trail.
